O: I love you Setsuko, and my heart breaks every time I remember that you died and that you were based on a real person.
So, yes! Another vector, which, although I like to say I hate it (vectoring), has, I guess, become my new style. Vectoring with painted backgrounds, and hopefully I'll continue to progress in this field of designing. For this being only my second vectored/painted wallpaper I am not disappointed at all!
I chose to vector this scan: hotaru no haka ost cover by candy-chan because I love Hotaru no Haka (Grave of the Fireflies). It is one of the best movies I have ever seen, and ever created (as far as I am concerned). I feel bad every time fans unknowingly think this is a Miyazaki movie - poor Takahata! I state, this is an Isao Takahata movie (reminds me of the whole Anastasia Disney thing: Anastasia is a Fox Family movie but Disney often gets the credit)
So, on to the wallpaper. Everything is hand done again, with the help of the cheesy grass brush. I tried to gaussian blur all of the grass to try and distract it's distinctiveness.
The vector overall was not hard, but Setsuko's doll was hard for me. Gah ... Oh, I'm gonna cry thinking about Setsuko! I cried a lot while making this, thinking of how bright her eyes were. Sadly, this book-based movie was based off of the author's life, which makes it all the more sad. So the wallpaper basically focuses on Setsuko and the fireflies, which she just loved.
Title: "May Tomorrow Be Wonderful, Too" (< a line from the Jyongri song I was listening to while making this)
Details, tally ho!
TIME: 9 hours (Vector 5.5 + Wall 4) PROGRAMS USED: Adobe Illustrator 9 (Vector) Adobe Photosop 7.0 (Background) SOURCES: Original scan, hotaru no haka ost cover by candy-chan FEATURING: Setsuko, Haru no Haka (Grave of the Fireflies) INSPIRATION: "A Lullaby For You" by Jyongri DEDICATED: To http://sinever.minitokyo.net/ for inviting me to Vector-Wallers and creating beautiful vectors that helped me overcome my fear of vectoring and inspire me.
Thanks for watching! Comments/Favorites adored!

Omg, this is only the saddest anime movie ever. Even I like tragic stories but this one actually made me angry to see how people just didn't care about Setsuko and her brother.
Anyway, I'm really excited you did this wallpaper. I haven't found many that I liked. You captured the emotion of wonderment well. Nice choice for a wall.

Wow, this is a hard one to make a wp from... but you managed to create a really good one! Great!

@ ViciousX: I know, that movie always gets me. Thank you for your encouragement! In the future I will try to design another Hotaru no Haka wallpaper.
@ PiscoPeru: Thanks for another comment! I had a lot of fun working with Setsuka and the theme of fireflies for this one. Thanks again!

It is touching. It says nothing of the pain those children (or any of those poor people) went through, but instead shows one of the most rebellious points of movie. Remaining wonder struck at the sight of a firefly despite being surrounded by so many desolate situations.
The lack of text or intrusion to this scene was well called for.
