This has been in the works for weeks, that feels just ridiculous to me. I wanted to make a Final Fantasy 4 wall because of how empty the section is, which seemed a waste considering there is plenty to work with in FF4 land. I wanted to make a wallpaper that went along with the idea of magic, corny as that sounds.
My first priority was finding an image from the game to use, and I found what I wanted on the Japanese site (am I the only one annoyed that they have different stuff on the official sites?). I don't think this falls under the "editing others wallpapers" as it's official art cropped by Square-Enix to a wallpaper size.
After finding my image I resized and started vectoring outlines around the young and adult versions of Rydia. I decided very early on that I did not want to vector the colors, but I debated using the image itself for the colors or using my tablet to paint it. The main thing that held me back was the lips on the adult Rydia. I realize I'm a giant dork about totally random details, but I loved the light effect on them and very much doubted whether I could recreate it. In the end I decided to paint it, even the lips which got an hour or more of attention because I was obsessed with getting them right. The bulk of my time working on it was spent painting.
My next challenge was the background. I had the idea in place but the problem was making the two Rydias look like the blended into it, or their cloaks at least. Days were spent in srs bsns angst mode over blending before I was satisfied.
The background was made with an assortment of effects found online, textures, brushes, and good old fashioned experimenting. In the end it was probably the easiest part (though it got its fair share of drama from me) since by then I had my two characters painted and ready, so it was a matter of creating something that, in my mind, complimented them and the whole magic thing. Looking at it now I think it's visually influenced by Legend of Zelda, namely the scenes in Ocarina of Time where Link takes the Master Sword from the pedestal in the Temple of Time.
In the end I think I'm finally satisfied, though I will probably pitch a fit in a few days when I realize there is something I don't like.

I'm not a big fan of the art itself, but you've done a wonderful job with the vector and background! Colour choice has this nasty habit of clashing with my background unfortunately, but I'll download it for possible future use ^^

Normally, I don't like the color that is used in most of this wallie, but I think the effects make it look good. And you did a good job vectoring and painting! I just think the hair of the older girl looks a little too thick on her right side, near the tips. Fav!
P.S. LOL, what is that white thing in the original wallpaper?! I didn't notice it till I looked at it a second time, haha.

Interesting wallpaper,nice
The background is good,the shiny green colour plus the electric effects the designs and the other effects are also not bad ,well its final fantasy,not the exact perfect one but its still a good art drawing.
The girls looks good,both of them,its drawn in a nice way,not too bad though,outfits look ok,both of them have their own expressions,one like hugging herself the other one like kinda in a sad mood.
Overall,its Not bad,its still good work of art,good job.

This is a favorite wallpaper of mine, especially since as you said the FFIV section is trgically empty. It's so hard to find good Rydia art and wallpaper too, so that makes this one especially awesome! Seeing the original image this came from makes it even more amazing seeing how you vectored it and enhanced the colors. I love the brilliant greens and the luminous quality of the wall. The background makes it look like she's floating in an electric pond <3

This wallpaper is awesome. I forget how long I've used it, but it's one of those I keep coming back to. Rydia is one of my favorite video game characters, and you've done a wonderful job on this wallpaper. Now that I'm getting around to using the account I created, I'm adding this wallpaper to my favorites.
