Sengoku Basara Hijack LOL

Sengoku Basara is an anime where everything is over-the-top. Action, reactions, everything is crazy wild GAR.

...so in contrast, I decided to make the wallpaper subdued. I've been trying to make a minimalist wallpaper for some time now. The last attempt being "Just Maybe" but I felt it wasn't minimalist enough.

Simple walls can be the most challenging to make.

So here you go. Vector from an image on danbooru. It didn't say who the artist was, so if you have an idea let me know. I decided to do away with midtones and just deal with shadows/highlights in the spirit of keeping my wall as simple as possible.

The background is the family crest of the Uesugi clan, hi-res pictures of which are unbelievably hard to find. Vector again. I added a gradient and made it a clipping mask so the crest would look like a sun, inspired by Miss Saigon posters.

Following the "Miss Saigon" theme, I tried copying the color scheme but decided they were too distracting for a wallpaper.

Font used is Aldine 401 BT. Original text was "Warring States" but that was too redundant. Changed to "Hearts", since Kasuga is crazy in love with Uesugi Kenshin.

Bird brushes by flordelys-stock as a final touch.

There is a very subtle white gradient on Kasuga as well, it may be hard to see.

I promised the guys at A.P.P.L.E. I'd make a wall for the group one day, here it is.

P.S. the color I used for this is not actually gray, it's Pantone process black (the default black for CMYK mode) which I prefer over regular 000000. If you check your Photoshop color library, you can see that there are over 80 different varieties of black.

By the way, you guys want a colored version, simply create a new layer, paint it with the color of your choice, slap it on the wall with a multiply blending mode or something. I really don't mind. If you could show me what you did with it, that'd be great.

Very nice! The pose, her hair and the kunai on strings look cool enough that I don't think it needs extra color.

The one thing that bothers me is that her head seems a little wide...It's practically a circle..

Ah well I still love this wall :)

I love the simplicity of the wall. It says so much about Kasuga and Kenshin. I think the simplicity works much better and it'd a pity to color this.

yeah you got the usual warlords riding TWO HORSES at the same time while STANDING UP, riding up a vertical wall. Said horses get heads cut off by a ninja, said ninja gets falcon-punched by the warlord into a castle.
