A wallpaper of revy from Black Lagoon. i wanted a black and white look, then it needed some color. pink hair and shells and green headphones :) . i also added motion blur to some of the shells and the slide of the gun.

on the left of revy is an outline of tokyo (from Black Lagoon)

Uhm, first off, the character is extremely jagged along the edges. And the fuchsia and black somewhat blur into each other, it doesn't look too swell. The bullets are pretty low quality towards the bottom. The motion blur on the bullets in the sky don't look right to me. They look blurred in the wrong direction instead of blurred so that they'd be flying backwards. I think this wall should have been placed into Session Zero before submission. I think it needs a lot of work, but has potential.

I think my biggest problem with this wall is the face. It doesn't have enough detail in it to make it look interesting. Also, the colour combination is rather odd.

it'd be really cool if it was higher quality.

just look up a good tutorial on vectoring, and redo it, whichever size you want, and resize it to the largest available, do not raster it. i think that's the problem you had with this, is that you rasterized it before resizing it.

try to get into the habit of not rasterizing anything until you have it the final size you want. you can usually rasterize and size down with no ill effect, but never up. it's just good practice not not though, not at least until you are fully aware of the effect that is had on the image when you alter it.

there are some filters that require you to raster the image to use them, avoid them until you know how to use them properly.

and if you are thinking that you have to rasterize the image to make it a jpg or png, don't. it does it automatically, and there is no effect on it. you never know if you are truly done with something, especially not when you haven;t been doing these kinds of things for long, so maintain as much workability as you can with your files.

final comments: the thumbnail for this is really cool, which means you got the composition right. that's a great complement, a lot of people botch that up. that being the case, this will be a great wall if you fix the quality issues that have been mentioned.

oh, don't use the motion blur like you did. other methods would prolly look cooler with this. one i can think of is to just duplicate the bullet, pull it to the direction that you want it yo be traveling from. add a little blur, just a little. and lower the opacity. it'll give it a cool clean effect and make it look like the bullet moved from the one position to the other. you want clean effect with very very little blur in a wall like this.

you did an excellent job with the vector. i like the black and white toned down contrast of the foreground and background with the little splashes of color thrown in. then again, i'm a sucker for black, white and neon, and you've incorporated it all so well. i know a lot of people like detail, and while i like detail too, i think if you would have over-detailed this it would have taken away from the wall itself. it could just be the preview image, but the best critique i have for you is, if possible, to not use .jpgs to save things like this. something with so few colors would have looked excellent and far less compressed in a .gif file, or to get the best quality, a .png. the jpeg compression makes your hard work look a little sloppy and jagged.
