Another scan I fell in "olev" for.
_Unable to hear the echoes of your mourns Immune to the sounds of spine chilling cries Deaf to the blood curdling sounds of slaughter
Drowning within the depths of grand rapture Sealed away within my final bastion In attempt to divert myself from going over the brink
Leaping deep into an acoustic chasm Staving away all my afflictions plaguing me This delusion is what will temporarily numb me
Purchasing time for myself to recuperate Saving me from self-destruction and agony Being protected by an audiophile’s sanctum_
Please full view and look at the progression chart complete with a brainspill commentary (fraction of what goes through my head)! As you already know I make my walls originally in 16:9 now. Someday I will get a full 16:9 swivel monitor. So I don't need to put my monitor on its side to read manga and view scans in high res. Also to fully enjoy my wall in 16:9 instead of 16:10. ;__;
Time record for me. I completed this wall in only a couple of days in comparison to the 1 month my Bakemonogatari wall took. I AM EVOLVING! I was possessed by something and drove me to finish it. The vector-wallers over at MT didn't see this coming when we shared WIP collages. ;)
Another landmark wall if you couldn't tell! This time I wanted to do lineless. Forgive me black outline lords, for I have forsaken you *mumbles a prayer*. I went back to my abstract vexeling of intersecting transparent layers in a massive wet orgy. Awww yeah.
I had some idea for a background early on. At first I wanted to try out typography but I didn't feel like searching for a whole bunch of new fonts. There was an idea of a cathedral wall behind her with light dropping down highlight parts of it but I dropped that idea. There was another idea of having graffiti on the wall and masking them in/out of tiles and mixing up the designs. I wanted to keep the wall simple and clean. Then I came up with the idea of the padded walls of a sound room. I went with loloverusedtiles because having those sound walls with spikes would look weird.
I always wanted to try a dark wall where the character is blended into the dark background. I was inspired by @sjade1's sense of contrast, @asa01's hair detail, and @AssasinXXX's inspiring poetic music sense. Oh yea, there's also @vitaamin who I always think about on every wall I make =3=. I imagine a small Hibari avatar in my head yelling SATURATION and COLORS while beating my brain with his tonfas. Geezus, traumatized for life. Shout out to you guys. Inspiration is contagious! :)
I hope everyone enjoys this wall. It is the FIRST WALL I enjoyed from beginning to end. I was actually sad that I was done with it. Usually I am, "Thank goodness I am done this wall!"

Nice wallpaper, you did a remarkable job finishing the scan, and like always the vexels you add are completely perfect, but I think the wallpaper is a little jagged, maybe a little Gaussian blur can fix that.

awesome hair OMG NONONO OUTLINES that makes the character look fatter. you do not believe. I imagine the teeth is of a rabbit. fav - CRAZY GRADIENTS ... excellent eyes ---- *'_'-

W00t, no lineart! XD
I think I'm in love with the way you made her hair; so many freaking details and strands. I think I'd go suicidal. XD Also, nice job with the scan extension, it looks very nice. The BG is also fitting and makes the character stand out nicely. I kind of think you could've made her clothes blend in more (like in your Bakemonogatari wall) but since I'm not a big fan of vexeling anyway, it doesn't really matter, lol.
Awesome job, overall. I like it.
Vitaa's scary ways of pushing people to improve had paid off as it seems. XD *runs away from tonfa wielding Hibari*

Wow I'm in admiration 8)E The work to complete the scan is very successful, and the introduction of color and shadows offers sumptuous rendering. An impressive work! I love it! + Fav

Simply outstanding quality-wise. Couldn't do it better even if I had a month to spend my time on such a wallpaper! Great work, especially because you didn't "repair" the scan, but completely recreated the wallpaper almost preserving all the details one could find in the original scan while improving the quality and changing the style a bit.
Instantly +fav - the effort certainly paid off!
I would like to critize something, but I can't find anything to critize about this wallpaper.. the "gradients" are so beautiful - the same goes to the hair and the orange<->black main theme of the wallpaper.
I wish I could do something like that too one day D:... +fav dS.

I love your walls dude, and this one is no exception.

Nice paper!
Amazing job with the scan, but her skin texture looks like wood. In full view a little and subtle line of her arms seems cut (like a splinter), increasing the wooden sensation.
Her hair is lovely, just perfect.
Congratulations!

Awsome! 8)E I love walls with super golden hair like that. Job well done!

LAWL at the Unlimited Hair Works prayer. >D Buahahahaha. Very nice work with all the details and bright color. I think you have plenty of detail in the hair, but lol I prefer shiny hair since it looks healthier, I'd say I think there could be more shine on her hair, especially on the bangs. Everything else I'm cool with. ;D

I SEE YOUR COMMENT ALENAS (i didnt see it on AP at first lol because the tiny tag actually works) lol ok i didnt like the background before but after seeing the progress picture i think its actually very clever. i wish you had drawn more of it, esp towards the bottom of the wall since she seems alot brighter than the wall.
lol i say this so much and i hate to say it to you BUT here goes: i commend your work on the hair, however the number of strands and lack of color differentiation makes the hair seem very stiff. its a difficult thing to overcome, but i think the hair in your previous works was better because it wasnt strand by strand, instead it used spontaneous shapes to define flow which just works. and nysha is referring to the fact that while you have lots of strands you didnt make many efforts to differentiate chunks of hair by defining undertones. its hard, i know i should preach it to myself but hair is why i have so many rotting WIPS
im not enjoying her hairband, its not as saturated as the rest of the wall and really makes the whole thing less interesting to look at. you started with some green/brown tints in her shirt, which you should have carried to her hat + ribbons as well as the background. and you should probably mellow out some of the shaded skin tones, they are too saturated. shades go from midtone -> saturated -> less saturated.
and finally shapes. your work is always beautiful even when it uses too many shapes because they always seem very spontaneous but neat at the same time. this is one time i think you could have done without. the number of lines in her skin makes her skin look dirty (actually a very common difficulty artists have), her biceps seem like they are bulging because of the round highlight you gave her ribbons (is that just me?) and you could have just left her shirt looking like sheet metal, but the number of shapes that dont follow folds means it doesnt really look like anything.
anyways, there are lots of ways to do really awesome walls without expending too much energy so i am really interested to see if you will start doing less ambitious projects and translate some of the strengths we see in your bigger wall projects for smaller ones. just remember smaller necessarily means less detail, you can't usually have both >D
AFTER THIS LONGASS COMMENT I STILL HAVE MORE TO SAY: thanks for the semi plug of THEwaller and mentioning me and my hibari <3

Wut I said on MT, plus I still like best your Ice Revolution wall, cause it has that soft, painted like look, you don't lurv gradients nu more.

Waaaa....I wanna be able to vexel hair like that but I'm stuck using a crappy mouse to vector so I suppose vexelling is out of the question for my till I get a tablet. Love the effort but I think that maybe you went a bit overboard with the number of shapes. It's nice if you look at it from a distance but once you look at it up close the shapes look a bit less appetising. Sorry I'm a gradient person more than a shapes person. I think ala's point is actually quite pertinent. You went so far with the details that the rendering and anti-aliasing suffered a bit when it came to some of the weird curves and thinner lines. And I also don't know why but the background looks less like a soundroom and more like a mental asylum.. maybe it's just the crazy in me talking.
Nvm...+fav (I would +fav the progress chart as well if I could X0)

Wanted to comment earlier, but AP suddenly went down. I maganged to save my comment though, so this is what I wrote:
First wall in a long time that really is a favorite (others I just faved because they kinda deserved it based on quality, but this one I actually really love). Thanks!
Since I'm at home now, viewing your wall on Full HD, I got to add the colors look magnificent. Very rich, very awesome. Again, great job!

very nice wall you're steadily making head turns in ap ... continue the fine work :3

Your work always tends to amaze me. This is just lovely, especially when I see it in full view. I can see all the details and how much work and effort you put into it. Wonderful job! *favs*

I love your wallpapers because of your choice in scans, colors and vexels... Dammit! Why do I always have to fav your walls? xD +++
3 years, 2 months ago
At first I was going to comment with something along the lines of "looks perfect" and "<3 the step-by-step." However, after reading some of the comments, I had to double-check my original evaluation...
Um...still looks awesome to me :P. The color contrast of the yellow-orange, grey-black really works for me. The only weird part was the vexeling of the shirt and the difficult distinction between the shoulder and arm (accurate with lighting scheme though). Then again, I don't draw or paint. I also wouldn't have known that the background was a sound wall without the your note.
Glad to hear that you had fun. I seriously enjoyed reading your commentary on the step-by-step. It makes me wish I could draw...

Nice work -- I can really see the elements of each waller that you pulled inspiration from. The end result paid off. This wall is very different from your past walls so it's nice to see that you're branching out. Hope to see more from you~

This looks so awesome in fullview! :3 The hair detail is pretty and whoa, I can't stop staring and it while thinking "Omg, I don't even want to think about how many layers these made!!" because it seems like you did a hell of lot layers xD I absolutely love the vector, you did such a great and nice job with editing it and drawing it completekly anew. I also like the bg very much and let me say, I was totally in love with your chart xD I had to bite back a giggle because it's actually pretty late and I have to be quiet xD But it's great haha
Also, if you want, I can ask this Yamamoto icon in my head he should come over to Hibari and distract him a little with making him angry otherwise when you do a wallpaper :D
