Saitou is probably my favorite character design-wise from HSK. He just looks so awesome. The first thing that I noticed is his hair. I really like how you did the hair. I can feel the length and silkiness just by looking at it. It's very clean although I don't like hair strand transparency overlap on the far right side of his head. There's also some reflective light in the darker parts of the hair which is appealing. Usually people leave out reflective light but it really adds on to the hair to give it depth. Good job on the eye even though it's very simple. The contrast makes it seem really deep and stands out.

I am so glad you added a version without the text lol. I think the text takes a lot away from the wallpaper. The "Facing the Darkness" font doesn't really fit at all. I would expect a cleaner and smoother font if anything. The texture also bothers me quite a bit. The character looks very clean and then there is this texture overlaying him. It would have been better to at least make it only affect the background. The scarf was done ok but would have liked to see it done neater or vector masked gradients. His nose seems kind of "fake" meaning it looks like it's a plastic nose glued on. I would have approached it by only making it a single color gradient instead of including white. The original scan already had a nose bridge highlight to make it feel round that you didn't include.

It's still a +fav because it's mf'ing Saitou and so I can easily go back to look at his hair if I ever lose the wallpaper. The hair is probably one of the best vectored hairs I have seen (lately at least).

Lol, this is pretty cool. Especially the hair *___________* I just want to run my fingers through his silky hair. Though, I have to agree with everything that Tens said. I don't mind that much the text, but the texture is just killing this wall. I think if you had only used that texture on his clothing, like in a low opacity, the results would have been more interesting and fitting. Also, I don't think his ponytail should be that blurred, I believe you wanted to create a sense of depth, but it's too much.

Other than that, I'm completely in love with your wall. 8D!

Wow - So HOT!!! I love this series, just Lurv it! You've done an AWESOME job on Saitou's hair. It was the first thing that drew me to your Wall apart from the fact it's so cool Saitou! How did you get the detail in the hair? No - how did you do the hair full stop!? Please, I'd love to know!!! I have to agree with Tens, the scarf looks out of place with the high quality of the rest of the vector, but apart from that - complete awesomeness! I know how difficult vectoring a Hakuoki character is, I'm trying to do one myself at the moment, so Kudos!

Zomg super attention grabbing. D8 I really like Saitou's character design. The thumb looks excellent and the hair looks nice and detailed and colorful. Up close it could be a bit more refined, like where the strands come together at the part, and on the ponytail part (looks more painted and not as sharp). The scarf could also use some cleaning to make it smoother too. I prefer the textless version myself. While the character vector is good, the bg seems a bit too simple - you could have made it one of those sliding screen doors with Japanese patterns on it for example. :)

Really love the smoothness and crispness of the character----although, the BG seems a bit empty to me. I'm not fan of the typography that you used...

I'm sorry but there is a problem with his nose and chin. Also gradients aren't the best :( sharp edges are clearly visible. And typography... no. Really sorry.

Great job on the detailing. I ike the hair the most. ♥ Usually i would say the background looks plain, but in this case i think it was a right choice as it brings the focus onto your pretty vector. :) Just maybe the text should be changed to Japanese fonts. Everything else looks fine though. :D

Great job on the vector and his hair is just awesome and so silky *___* I'm glad that you uploaded a textless version of it, because I think that the text doesn't seem to fit in there. Also, it would be really great if you could upload a texture-less version of it, the texture completely ruins the awesomeness of your vector.

This looks great. Saitou looks wonderful the way you vectored him. The background is very simple, but that doesn't bother me as much as it does in some walls. I think a simple background works fairly well in this case. Overall a great wall. +fav :)

Yessssss! I remember when I first saw this wall and I just wasn't really feeling the text but now that you removed it this wall looks great. I love the soft background and the vectoring and everything else. It looks amazing.

I really like the hair and the details, I didn't really like his scarf when I first saw the thumb, but on full wiev it looks awesome too. The background is a bit simple and empty for me, but other than that, it's a great wall.

bwahaha isn't hakuouki shinsengumi kitan filled with bishies~ there are just too many scans asking to be walled. :9. anyway, about the wall. not sure if this is one of your early products (in terms of detailed vectoring) or you've already been polishing up on this style, but it has turned out pretty well. especially the hair! i do have to be honest and admit, however, that i think with some more attention to detail, this vector could have been taken to a higher level. i don't mean more details; i mean things like shapes that shouldn't protrude over other shapes, edges that don't quite meet when they should, overlapping transparent shapes in the hair (this one being perhaps more of a taste issue...), and such.

the rest...gosh ok yeah this is why i rarely comment. i write essays and i think i probably scare people like that. xD;; anyway, these are just things to learn from this piece and maybe think about for future works. [readmore] scarf: the color of the scarf highlights is very peachy in parts and a lot cooler in others--should be a bit more consistent. my main concern, however, is something else. it's fine to have defined shapes that transition with a gradient into each other, such as what you did for the part that hangs over his shoulder. but any blurred, smudged, or soft-brushed looking parts are generally no good. :x

skin: at first i thought it was a little weird how much the shading layers differed in terms of saturation and tone (warmer or cooler/yellower or redder, that kind of thing). THEN i thought to check the original scan. ...maybe it's a case of using the eyedropper? in typical warm light like this, it should go highlights-->warm, saturated midtones-->cooler, less saturated shadows. i love saitou hajime-kun! he just looks great no matter what angle he's shown from and what kind of clothes he's wearing. :D his style is just so mysterious and enchanting! <3 so even though this wallpaper was only a simple image of saitou-kun, i still really like it. you made a wonderful choice of the scan to work with! great job! :)

I love the simplicity. The background fits his character so well with the slight orange aura. I find it always helps if you know the character. The shadows are really well done too!
