Well, today I decided to dust off my old tablet and give it a go. Hakuouki is an amazing anime with a lot of hot men, so I thought, why not try that. I used Nysha's lovely grass painting tutorial over at Deviant Art. After battling photoshop and working for a few hours on the grass alone, I finally finished it. Then I painted on some clouds and created my sky. :). I extracted the scan and smudged it around to make it blend more with the background. I applied one or two textures to help with blending and I added some simple text. Also thanks to @Lost-Soul for urging me to finish and submit this wall.
I can't tell you how long it has been since I put this much time and work into a wall. I really enjoyed making this and I hope at least someone can use it. xD
Critiques and whatnot are much appreciated. I'm kinda rusty with walling so don't be too mean xD
Lol, I just realized I spelled anime wrong in my sig..I so smart. oh well xD
Edit: I hated those clouds and I didn't know anyone else disliked them too xD So thanks Eva! I took some stock photos I took last year and incorporated them. PS hated me today and deleted all my brushes. :'[

On a serious note, i like the grass. I think you did a pretty good job painting that. But one thing that kinda bothers me is the clouds. It's too smudgy. Especially the one on the left. Getting a painty soft cloud is kinda hard, so maybe you could have just use cloud brushes and do a little soft smudge on it to make it more painty. I have a brush set for that if you're interested. :)

This looks good! My only suggestion would be to find a way to make the sir fit in with the bg a bit better. You have such a soft painted background, but it's a bit obvious he was extracted due to the hard edges in some places. Perhaps something as simple as going around and painting a bit of him here and there along the edges would help. Oh, actually, I don't think you need the typography. I think you'd be perfectly suited without, this wall speaks well enough on its own.

I love the colors and textures, the atmosphere is lonely and fits Toushi's sad gaze. I think the font is too calligraphic though, something like Trajanus Bricks would fit better.

Lol I just noticed you used my tut for the grass. XD Good start! The bottoms of the dark clumps seem a bit sharp and could be softened out a bit. Some of the blades seem kind of aggressively painted o.o and sharp/straight, so it's ok to loosen up and add more flow suggesting the wind is blowing them. :3 Nice soothing colors for the wall too!

Of all the wallpapers I saw in the Hakuouki category, yours is probably the only one that actually took note of a wallpaper's function while at the same time making sure the subject of your wallpaper is completely seen. You took note of the default arrangement of icons and avoided putting anything on the side of the wallpaper that might contrast with the icons and be a sore to the eyes (I just hate it when I look at my desktop and I have to squint my eyes to adapt them to a horrid swirl of lines and colors). Thing is I've been finding such a problem more and more frequent in wallpapers. I'm just glad I found this one. :) Just a little more, though...I don't think the title exactly fits Hijikata's smile, hm?
