Since tomorrow's my birthday, I decided to give a gift to myself by making a VERY detailed wallpaper of my all-time favorite manga, Saiyuki. (I'm not sure if that's really detailed but making it took me almost 10 hours up! with almost 98 layers!!!)
After my tragic taekwondo match (resulting in having a broken left leg), it was last June 14, its my first time of celebrating my birthday here in the hospital.
Even I'm in the hospital, I'm still active in doing school activities (so my failing grades won't get worse)... Good thing I have my uncle's Wi-Fi laptop so I'm not really that bored. I heard I'll be back home by 20/21. (finally!)
I took the chance yesterday (since I have no assignments) to make another wallpaper. Its from another abduzeedo tutorial, but still it took hours to make. I put my researching skills to the test in finding textures and most especially brushes. My current PS is actually Photoshop 7.0 (embarrassing...) so my works are made from that and of course, finding a brush is totally a pain in the ass.
The main pic is from a Salty Dog art book (forgot where I found it) while the textures and brushes are from DeviantArt. Sorry if I can't credit (especially for the brushes) since I downloaded a lot but only a few are compatible with PS 7.

Photoshop 7 is nothing to be ashamed about. I've seen a lot of great walls come from 7 and it's not about the tools, but it's about what we do with them. I also wish you a speedy recovery so that you can get back to Taekwondo as soon as possible!
I have to say for your first wallpaper, it's incredibly ambitious. As in terms of what you worked with, I think it's pretty cute but at the same time it doesn't fit very well with the wallpaper itself. I'd also offer a future note of bookmarking everything/ copying and pasting it onto note/word pad. That way, everything you plan on using for a wallpaper will be right there for reference.
The background itself I really like, but at the same time I have to say it is pretty crowded. I can only imagine how difficult it was to find brushes for PS 7. While the dots and clouds are rather nice, they sort of clash with the background (for me anyways) and while I like the background itself, it does struggle a bit with the scan itself. Mainly because it gives the effect that they are flying, which can be either good or bad. The grudge-style at the top is night, but it also clashes with the bottom area of clouds and dots. The text is..it's ambitious and certainly creative, but it really doesn't work that well for the wallpaper.
Certainly a creative effort and I'd say you've got potential. I'm rather impressed for this being your first submission. I hope that after you are healed, you'll still be able to wall!

This is a fine wall indeed...I also like Saiyuki very much,and I'm really glad someone made a good wall out of it...I love the typography on those pieces of paper,and those brushes in the bg look nice too...I think the clouds look too real for a chibi wall like this though....adding a more anime-ish ones would look better... Still,good wall you made overall^^ I hope your leg will heal fast so you can leave the hospital...you do have a comp,but it's still lonely,ne?xD Hope you will continue to make fine walls like this^^ + fave

[I think this is a creative one^^] maybe if the clouds all in cartoon style will look a lot more funny i like the tinted texts, looks cool, you can also blend the texts with the paper texture behind it so it doesn't look too sharp in full view other than that nice one

This wall has a lot of potential to it. I really like the fact that it looks grungy and vintage at the same time. The colors are great for it too. The only thing that disturbs me is the flowing dots in the BG. It's kinda blurred. LOL. Anyway, great job on the typography as well. The clouds could've been organized more but this is really a lot considering that you're using APS7. Kep up the good work! |(n_n)|
