Kiddy Grade Do the Astral Plane

OLD SCHOOL! Love it! I can never get enough kiddy grade!

Looks good! 8D I wish I knew the series so I could feel more of an emotional attachment to the girls, but ZOMG the nostalgia - even though I wasn't really there for the abstract days lol! If nothing else this is a refreshing change from the usual... and the experimentation was fun. Let's make some more old school walls >xD

As I said on flyin's wall, I'm glad some styles other than grunge and stock blends are being shown to the new bloods. Old school was more than that! ^____^

The background style is definitely old school. The only thing that made me hesitate was the fact that you blended some of the stuff on top of them. I'll have to research that to see if that's more newage. XD (I'm probably wrong)

*EDIT* Yep, I've been living in the present for so long... I almost forgot that as time progressed, things got "cleaner" and less stuff was placed on top of characters. Back then it was all about the blending. :P

I'm going to be completely honest right now. Both you and flyin' produced wallpaper that, out of all the submissions, truly felt old school. While it was certainly nice to see all the different wallpapers, the ones that truly made me feel as if I had gone back in time was this entry, and flyindreams entry. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, since it also makes me feel a bit..old.

I'm so glad you went with the scan that you did as well. I remember the massive flood of Kiddy Grade wallpapers back then too, so it's always nice to use something that really fits the timeline. As Red-Eclipse commented on, it's also nice to see more blending effects used with the characters as well. It is bad that I look at things these days and feel that they are far too clean and sterile these days?

I think you are far too harsh on yourself in terms of the background. I'm curious about this "failed attempt", but I'll leave that be for another time. In terms of the background style itself, I think you nailed it perfectly. From the great usage of color and shapes, to the style of the text and blending as well. I briefly mentioned it before, but it's because of this great execution that really brings about such a nostalgic feeling. I also love how you added your own personal style along with the past, giving it sort of a combination of the past and present.

To me, the best piece someone can do, be it written or artistic, when they can truly place that person in that situation or moment. Especially for someone who was around during that period of time. Not only did you nail the style completely, but you went above and beyond it. It's nostalgic, yet at the same time it's something I'd love to have on my desktop. I hope that we might see more pieces like this from you!
