This wall was so much fun to make, but I think it killed about 3 million of my brain cells.
I started off with a phenomenal scan by Kurehito Misaki (here), which I fell in love with instantly. Then I spent the next ten hours of my life rendering every single one of those little ribbons until I was having trouble remembering to blink, ha ha. One bottle of Visine later, I got it rendered and then started to think of what I wanted to do.
I immediately knew I wanted to pair her red ribbons with a beautiful black and white checkered floor, but I didn't want to lose the golden-tan on her skin, either. That meant I traded in my original idea to desaturate it for a sunset/bronze feel instead.
Solution: this awesome stock that I'm pretty sure everyone in the world has used at one point in their life. Now it's my turn. ;)
I grunged it up some, added some texture, added some gold, and voila.
Next came the background. My original intention was to take the tree design and make it look like panels of wood or regular wallpaper, but when I did, it just... didn't look special enough. Then I got the idea to make it look like the wall ends into nothing and there's a whole, wispy forest behind her. Blurred and selectively erased to add depth, plus an overlay of very light cloud cover.
Thanks to VenomMistress for all the awesome tree stock. DA recently took all of her work down (and so many artists cried) but thankfully she had a lot of it saved.
And that's pretty much it. All in all, I'd say this wall took me about 20 hours, and I loved doing it. Critique is welcome, but so is praise. ;)

Nice cropping and choice of scan, the wallpaper is nice, but the bg it's a little blurry, but it's a nice wall :D

Thanks a lot, you guys. As I mentioned in my ridiculously-long opening comment, I blurred parts of the background for depth, but I'll probably end up posting a version without the blurring if people don't like it.

One of the scans I have in my potential walls folder. :D
I say the wall is unique in its own way. The wall feels like one but not at the same time. I think that's what you meant in your description. I like the soft but warm lighting on the wall. It has an antique feel.
The floor looks a bit too sharp compared to rest of the wall. Everything is soft and blurred. Then when you look at the floor there is a sharp stony texture. Maybe if the texture was eased up a bit with a duplicate blur layer. It could look softer without sacrificing too much like blurring the layer directly.

This is really nice! I love how you merged the stock image to the character and changing the color hues and everything! <3

Very nice to see a text-book classic stock-photo-blended-grungy wallpaper again. It always gives me enough material to criticize, like how the perspective of the floor is off and how the character feels a bit disconnected because there are no shadows on the ground. But those are just common errors that are so attached to this kind of style, it's almost no reason for critique anymore. I mean, you don't argue with MC Escher about how his paintings are physically impossible either xD.
So yea, I really like the color scheme and the atmosphere in the wallpaper. Very nostalgic ^_^. I also appreciate the long artist's comment ;) It's always nice to see someone putting some thought into their walls.
Keep up the good work!

The background looks very good, the trees and the scenery is very nice, though the red ribbons would look much more fitting if their color would be a similar one to the scenery's. The character is looking good, she fits there well. Nice wallpaper.

Gorgeous work. :) Old-school walling style. I love it. I LOVE the lighting and colors. They're fantastic! My only thing is that I feel there should be shadows on the floor beneath her front foot and hair lol. That's all though. XD Everything else is amazing. *faves*

You got a great result. Honestly, the first time I saw this art in the artbook "Cradle", some months ago, of Kurehito I thought about doing a wallpaper. But I had no good idea ahuuauhahuahu.
Looks like you tried to give the wallpaper a feeling of "old", reducing the power of color and pulling it off for a cold color pattern. The effect was very nice, but took a bit of the beauty of this art Kurehito.
