Hello my AP friends =3
Wow, this is my first wall in quite a while, lol. Okay, first off I need to thank my Sensei and good friend Isshi for all of his help with ideas for this wall.
Thankyou Isshi =D
okay, so I'll start with the vector, which is mine. Done as my entry for VD#14 - Zoom Power, from artwork by the amazing Midori Foo.
The style of the artwork was so striking that I was almost possessed in wanting to vector her, lol. I'm glad I did though because she turned out so lovely.
So in keeping with the style of the vector, I chose the Art Nouveau style when deciding on the background for my wall. Using mainly the art of Alphonse Mucha as inspiration.
As for the title of my Wall, some of you are probably curious... kudos to those who got the Bioshock reference =P... The game features a lot of art in the Nouveau style, and the stained glass window behind her in the wall has a deep ocean kind of feel to it, like the windows looking out into the ocean in the underwater city of Rapture. So, that was my take on naming my wall, anyhow.
I've added a clean version without the aging look. I know some might prefer it like that, so I'll give you the option of which you want to download.
*Note - I've added a new revision, with a more aged paper look background and border-less.
Okay, well as always comments and critique are always welcome. I hope you enjoy my wall as much as I did in the making of it =3

There's something about this wall that really makes me love it. The patterns, flowers, composure, and the vector itself is just excellent. Good choice of colors too. Nothing too overpowering and it blends brilliantly.
I'll have to fave this one!

Seems like if you need to make a worthy wallpaper from a vector made by you, you need to do it yourself. And you made it Vamp, the flowers on the character look really good and are matching with her style and color just as it would be needed. You should definitely work more on wallpapers, cause you have the skill to do so. +Fav

Nc work .. It looks pretty .. I hope could create a wall like that .. :)

To be honest the colors don't look that hot in the thumbnail, but in full view, they're like whoa! Love them so much, the coloring technique is great!

It's been a while since i've seen some art nouveau around here and i'm glad you made one. :D The vectors are really smooth and crisp and i like how you added a slight texture over it to create a vintage look. Lovely choice of colors too btw. It really brightens up the whole wallpaper and accentuates the design. <3 Great work!
1 year, 9 months ago
Wah, up close the colors are so vibrant and YAY texture! *___* I find the title fitting without the game reference (the "beauty of being so joyous" essentially XD). I prefer this shade of green for her shirt much better - more attention is drawn to her face and hair now. :D I like what you've done with the central floral decal, but not too fond of the decorations on the sides of the wall. Feels too claustrophobic and binding lawl. You think you could make a version (with texture intact) without them, but with just paper-aged/darker sides and corners like an old parchment instead?

Hi Nysha =3
Thankyou so much for your comment, I'm really glad that you like the changes I made to her.
And sure I can make an alternate version, I'll upload it as another revision along with the textureless version. =3

_ wow! Such a feast of rich colors for my eyes! The vectoring is adorable - e the stained glass looks so natural, shows all the depth of the ocean and your master skills of making it like that^^; I also admire the chara's vector style - it looks so original, just attracts the attention - it doesn't look like average vectoring - it's a new 'breath' in vectoring style in my opinion('cause I've never seen such before) Flowers here and there - are perfectly done,- and add to wall more natural, gentle look! Even the borders are a great addition to the wall, line the beauty of it! my new desktop, here you are!!!^^

I love the "art nouveau" style of this wallaper, the vector is beautifully made, the final result is lovely !

OMG WOW!! Seeing the original scan i would have never imagined something like this as a wall! You've really taking it and made it your own!
The bg goes with your vector astoundingly well! The colours just mix together beautifully. Attention to detail is lovely too, one thing that does bother me a little is the things ((not sure what to call them)) ones darker than the other, and everything else seems so semiotical and thats not colour wise. But tother than that your wall is beautifully executed !!

An old art style that pops up on walls once in a while!
I like how you went with a more colorful approach. Most of the walls I've seen done in this style don't have that much playful color in it. They usually employ neutral colors and maybe 1-2 cool colors. The colors really attract my eyes because they are not too dull or too bright. They are somewhere in the middle where it's rich and tasteful. Kind of like having too much or too little sugar in your tea.
The arrangement of flowers are outstanding. The white flowers act as a bridge to connect the different elements. They also help contrast against all the color helping balance it a bit while making it stand out even more. I don't see any detail drowning in the sea of color. The side flowers going from white, blue, and to violet was a good choice. White really stands out against the blue as opposed to the violet. It also looks less artificial without it going from lightest to darkest in succession (white, violet, blue). The soft look of the flowers is what attracts me the most. The character is just "there" for me and I end up being fascinated by the flowers. They look similar to being watercolored and have a parchment type texture over them. The flowers do not stop at all. Even on the wheel it has simplified designs of red roses being patterned with their two leafy petals. Going from the outward in on the wheel it creates a scenery of a rose garden. The inner green circle represents brush while the lighter green could be the grass or other vegetation.
Of course people always need to throw in the border/embroidery in there. I kind of like how it's a dark yellow because it adds to the old feeling of it. Sort of like I am looking at an old painting on parchment. Thought it was an interesting choice to make the wall darker as it goes into the top left corner because there isn't really any single light source because she's shaded in such a way that it doesn't give off a direct light source. So I thought you would have kept symmetrical background design and at least have it light->dark from top to bottom or vice versa.
The black void behind her feels ominous. It looks like space littered with stars and dust. This creates a contrast in design. You have a young lady posing and then behind her is the deep dark cold space. Perhaps it's a mirror sparkling but doesn't explain why it's black. Is it describing her deep personality or portraying the darkness within her? We'll never really know. I would have been fine with it being just a silver mirror lol.
Great job Vampu! A lot of thought has gone into this wallpaper. You're continuing to grow as a waller. : )

Art Nouveau! Well that's something you don't see often. I like how soft the character feels. Why is she reminding me of The Little Mermaid?

Awesome! I love the symmetric feeling of that wallpaper, it's a good point for a wallpaper to use in desktop, at least you'll not get lost when looking for an icon! Well, the colors are bright and vivid and that's really impressing me, it's an eye-catching even it's simple. You're improving your skills day by day and this is fantastic! I love this wallpaper a lot, it's the kind of wallpaper I would like to put in my desktop! So FAVing it ^^

I'll start by noting I have near zero art experience, and that I rate on vague things like 'awesomeness' or 'beauty.' Anyway, I have no idea what constitutes Art Nouveau style, but I have played BioShock.
Minor things: your tag on the wallpaper is ant writing. Doesn't draw attention, but there's space for bigger font. Up to you actually, not a major thing.
The naming: I have no idea and cannot relate between the title and wallpaper. I did a bit of googling around, and "Rapture" art is highly holy, bright and brings general feel of ascension. I see a Belle but I see no Rapture. It has various colours, but is not uplifting nor 'holy.' As for BioShock's city, I always took BioShock as having an extremely dark environment, and the city is very dark. While the art style might be the same, the name, starkly, does not fit. Of course, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but well... The theme is more of "Nature's Emissary" or something along the lines of flowergirl.(linguistic creativity would help)
The wallpaper itself: it seems good. That said, I find the 'wow' power lacking. It is definitely pretty, colourful, and features all sorts of flowers I cannot name. The full rainbow spectrum is practically included. The character vector quality is superb, and there is obviously detail in the flowers and window in the background, but it feels like there is space for more. Space for more isn't a bad thing: it's minimalist, but doesn't quite work here maybe because of the flowery theme. Another minor detail: the yellow coloured flower(?My Botany sucks?) isn't well-contrasted with the background, is that intended? The framing suggests it was neglected somewhat, but they aren't the focus anyway. To be honest, I don't know what you can do that is in the same art style. I looked at my other wallpapers, and for flower wallpapers that worked, they generally have clouds and are scenic, which I can see this wallpaper is NOT trying to do. Perhaps more could be added, but going there is easily overdoing it. I'm thinking something like Stained Glass where every part has detail, but pulling that off without coming across as trying too hard is not easy.
Finally, I have no real idea what the ageing look refers to(is it the left frame?) and so cannot really comment on what a 'clean look' is. To note again: I'm an art noob, so take my comments with a pinch of salt.

Your walling skills have really caught up to your already awesome vectoring skills. I love the centered circular motif, it really suits the character! It looks like a beautiful crest with the flowers coming out of it! I really love this style of walling because it compliments the character really well! Great work!

Vampy wow!! This turned out so perfect! As I've already told you, I love those flowers. The blue on the morning glory's is such a pretty shade. The border turned out really nice as well. I love the overall concept and design on this. It fits so nicely with the vector. +fav!

Yes,yes, yes, yessss!!! THis is what I want to see more of. Art Nouveau is definitely underrated in my book, but this little thing of beauty will surely draw more than a good share of attention. I like how you used those flower arrangements to bridge your girl and the art nouveau styled borders. It really connects the frame with the central artwork. =>those flowers are stunning btw, I'm so glad I got to view this before I leave for a two week without Internet trip.

Excellent job! Fav

Wow, her eyes are actually realistically proportional (except the iris).
Anyhow, I really like the style of the wallpaper. It's very eye-catching. C'est magnifique.
Can you please make a 16:10 version? Preferably 1920x1200, but lower is okay. I don't think it can be cropped well.
1 year, 9 months ago
wow. this is a really beautiful and vibrant wallpaper! matching the colours of the background details to the original really makes the whole image fit nicely together, not to mention the choice in floral imagery. at first I couldn't really tell the difference between the two revisions, but on second thought, revision 2 is better - the darker contrast allows the colours to be more rich.
fantastic wallpaper and keep up the good work!

heya vampsy!
this is a nice piece you have here. clean and well arranged. i really like the foreground colors of the character and the flowers. i also enjoy the main background color and the border. the brushes/ vector, whichever they are, for the border. the overall styling of it is very pleasing.
there are, however a few things that i think could look a little better. first, is the eyes, they're clean, and colored well, but slightly dull and dead, perhaps too clean. if you decide to adjust it, you might try adding a very slight gradient on the white of the eyes, making them off-white, more of egg-shell to a lowly saturated beige. then, if needed, enhance the white of the reflections. when you make the "white" of the eyes, actually white it deadens the effect of the reflection, and therefore the entire eye. a good rule of thumb it to avoid solid white on an eye period, with the exception of the reflection of course, and then minimal.
the second thing that could possibly look better is the immediate background behind her. personally i don't think the color selection there is the best. it does fit the hue scheme, but tonality is a bit off. value and saturation are a bit rich for the reds and turquoise, even though it's not quite turquoise i'll just call it that. i realize that you didn't want it to just be a complete blend. in this case i would have use a tertiary or even analogous color scheme. you can use kuler to be very precise, or just give you ideas. if you're using adobe CS4 or higher there is a plugin for it, both in PS and AI, i believe it's listed under extensions. it's a very useful tool to nail color theory down with, because even though most of us can get close without it, it can still be better. it's an exceptional few that have either studied enough to know, or just naturally see what's best. i highly recommend employing it in future projects.
ok, ok. if you managed to read all that, kudos! it really is a beautiful wall, and i can see a lot of hard work went into it. keep up the hard work vamps!
1 year, 9 months ago
Yay for Vampy! You've managed to finish this wall! ^^
I like the colour of the bg design as it compliments well with the character. And the floral style are simply lovely. XD
Anyway, for the flower borders of revision 1 and 3, perhaps the colour of the leaves on the upper part can be lighten as it can be a distraction (maybe its only me...=.=)
Great job Vampy! Can't wait to see your next work!

Thank you for making this! 1. I'm an absolute hooker for art nouveau, it's kind of sad how quick I'll favorite stuff like this. 2. It's effing gorgeous and I'm kinda jealous of how pretty it came out. 3. I've never looked through Midori Foo's stuff before, so thanks to you for introducing me to a new artist. +Fav

gorgeous, vampu. the vector itself is beautiful as can be expected from you. the way you recolored the scan is in especially awesome. love the work you did on the flowers.
the background itself, though simple, compliments the vector perfectly. you definitely reached your goal and this work lives up to it's name. though i find myself at a loss to choose between the bordered and un-bordered version. o_o both are awesome
keep up the great work and glad to have seen another wall from you. +fav

Awwn, so pretty! >_< I loved the vector when you uploaded, but you made it be more beautiful in this wall! I'm not a big fan of Art Noveau style, but this one catched me totally. You played really well with the flower theme and composed a nice bg, for me the part that looks like a stained glass window is the better (I'm thinking in use it in a wall too). The flowers look really vibrant with the colors that you choosed, and the pattern gived a nice touch for the whole wall. :) Really good job dear, keep up the nice work! ;D

The vibrancy of the colors are simply gorgeous. The vectoring is crisp and well-done, and the use of simple borders and textures are wonderfully executed in the different versions.

Both designs are really nice, but I think I prefer the less textured one. Great colors, the flowers really bring out all the hues in the vector nicely, and I really love all the inner flower details. Lovely work ^^

Wow i love art Nouveau and to see a wallpaper using that style is just awesome. I love how your wall fits together and how it is centered. I loved how you vectored the character and how you created such a beautiful background that fits with it and make it stands out. Your colours are vivid and bright which looks gorgeous. Definitely a Fav :D

Seeing the Revisions, This one is in between, beautifully... the color, the lighting, and vividness of the main image. Really nice. +1Fav

This is really eye-catching. It's extremely difficult to choice a favorite because all three revisions are so unique, and they mold well with the vector.
I really like the lighting on the third one compared to the first one. And the second one really makes her and the colors pop, because of the lack of the border. It gives me a tattoo feeling.
Seriously, this is amazing! All three are the best to me!

Well done! My favorite 'revision' is the parchment backgrounded one!

Oh wow I didn't see this one before. Quite awesome. The character is wonderful but your stained glass window and flowers really make this wall pop! Which is making me ask myself why I didn't see this on the front page! I would have normally noticed something this good.
Both the background and the character compliment each other. You really have a gift my friend and you put it to good use. My favorite part of this wall are her eyes and lips they just glisten... Are you sure this is not 3D! Did you hack my computer and make it 3D compatible.... Just kidding!
