Nurarihyon no Mago Wine under the moon

Ahh, the 2nd revision looks so much better than the 1st one :) The whole wall became more stylish - the colours and textures you added to his clothes does not take away the focus from the eyes or the petal. (I still think that the sakura petal is the main focus of the wall though, which is a good thing nevertheless :D)

If you want the focus to be on his eyes, you could make it brighter and add more details to it. It might be hard to do so coz of the small size but it's still possible (I find Nysha's eye tutorial particularly helpful)

The only things i might change next time if I make such a wall are the clouds and the moon. The clouds all look quite similar - tweaking the shapes and opacity (even if you use brushes) might help. And the moon is a little too blurred and could have more colour ^^

Despite all i've said, I find myself in love with the colours and atmosphere of this wall...so a +fave and keep up the good work! :D

i didn't recognize the second revision at first, which says a lot. it means your efforts paid off. i'm glad to see that you added more detail and color to the wall. it changed the concept slightly, but maintained what you wanted as the mood and atmosphere. it's still dark and somewhat mysterious, yet now, instead of being somewhat lifeless and dull, is much more vibrant and full. there's places for the eye to wander, and details to be considered throughout.

as yukina said, it could still use a little refinement, if you so desire, the clouds don't really look like clouds, more like the kind of rock formations found in the bays of thailand. the moon is decent, but it's impact is somewhat lessened by the top lighting effect layer. and, as she pointed out, the eyes are no longer the focal point that you desired them to be. follow her suggestion for the eyes, and add a little glow as i previously suggested, if you did want them to be the focal point.

as for the clouds, i suggest you go outside on a calm, partially cloudy, moonlit night. observe closely the variations of shades. how they are the color of the moonlight where they are closest to it, yet thin enough to show it through, or facing it to reflect it. they're actually pretty easy to paint. just glob some of the same color as the moon on in a circular motion, then go a bit darker on top of that in some places, no special places, be as random as you want. then near black as the final layers. use the smudge around 30% at a smallish size, and smudge the edges in a circular motion, of all of it. then blend the parts together with blur. repeat as desired. i did this on my last wall at one point in time, but i had so many complaints about the clouds being too detailed and drawing attention away from the rest of the wall. but in a wall like this one, it will work great.

lastly, lower the opacity of the top lighting effect layer a bit more. it's too heavy and distracts from the rest. you might consider copying it, blurring it with the blur filter around 2-5, adjusting the hues slightly, and using overlay, soft light, screen, luminosity, or hue as the layer setting. then lower that opacity as well. that will give the highlights more impact, and variation, while not being overpowering. keep that layer subtle so as not to distract from the rest.

again, great improvement over the last version. keep up the good work.

Revision 2 is heaps better than the first. Very stylish, and the colors are very pleasing to the eyes. I like the slight glowing effects you added along with the flowers that seem to float on the rippling water. The pattern change on his kimono was also a smart move. Even though the brushes far in the background seem like mere pink masses, they oddly enough fit and give the wall a fuller look. However, what's bugging me is the 'diffused' type of glow from the moon and the white lines across it. They seem out of place, or they distract from the render / focal point too much. They give the wall an 'overlay-ed' feel to it. I personally liked the darker feel of your first try a little more. I would suggest experimenting more with the lighting in this (lower opacity, ect.), and try to make the character stick out a bit more.
