hello.
At last i did a wallpaper! i was waiting for that moment xD agh more than six months since my latest, anyways i am very happy with this work that mean my return or that's what i am believing right now xD for more information of this past months you can read my journal I don't want to mix stuff here on the wall (lie) xP
Motoko, cyberpunk, not much to say, this girl inspired me so much, she is one of that heros to admire because of the complicated and simple things that compose this serie. As this scan i fell in love of many of them so i am working on some more from her, i want to do some from battou but any picture for now :p
The things that captivated me was the beauty and the delicated side of her face, open eyes, looking straight and strong but kind of sweet and relaxed, naked but in he middle of something. what are you looking right now on the wall wasn't the first idea, even is a simple focus on her, highlighting the tones and color and cleaning the orginal concept, I could be able to tweak the wall at this point, which i am very pleased for the result, with every picture I saved I was more excited of how it looks with every change, every layer of process, I thought like "how i did this!" xD. While doing this some other ideas come to my mind and that's what i am looking for while i am doing this, a instantaneous feedback of creativity and XD i hope take advantage of it and don't lost the motivation.
the concept is based on a clean and cybernetic exposure of her, but not overusing the classic elements, and not over recharging the wall, keeping clear zones to use for desktop, making her figure stand out but not too flashy, too much bright bother D: for that reason i used a grayish violet as base for the background, i mean, the extreme black or white will not work for this one. I could add more thing to this, many complicated parts and so, but simple is nice! and i like that, that's what my usual style for desktop.
I had a lot of fun playing with colors xD, since blue to magenta, I didn't want a boring violet over the whole thing, so I changed and mixed the colors, i guess the most notable is the eyes, they aren't red it all, on the scan looks a bit opaque which gives a dark and mysterious aspect over her, i opted for give some light and details, but shading the depth for that reason I enlarge the shadows of the eyes and behind. I loved doing the lips, i was so tempted and that was the first part I did and the last I finished.
What i like the most of this wallpaper, besides of painting the face, was how it turns the idea, with the broken "circles" i must to say they aren't perfect shapes, and is o purpose, when i was extracting them and using simetrical shapes, I saw them too systematical and stiff to my liking, it was more a feeling than a esthetic stuff, the circles are part of her body they are merging it with a different reality, spreading apart pieces, skin, thoughts, becoming something or just fading far away, that's my intention. I don't know but somehow remind me what happen at the end with her, metaphorical and.. not it all. I took the graphics shapes from the scan, mixing it and some others made by me.
:D i am happy because i always wanted to do tutorials but i usually skip (forget) to save pics and so (i suxs teaching, i'm kind of cruel). On the other side, I always wanted to do speed-vector i don't watch too much XD but i like it, is relaxing watch it and yes, I recorded how i did the lips and one eye of Motoko (yaiii), shamefully, my pc is quite old and the progress of doing the fast forward took me years, thanks god i could handle it :P to explain something, is not the full progress of how did it, let's say eerm (easy to expect) is the video without the final details, specially the lips, i did five more process over the lips, with the eye two more, but you can see the final result at least and the very complete base for the vector :3 why? I don't usually record and even if I work fast, I pay too much attetion to the details, once and once again, xD and it was around 4-5 hour the time spent on the lips vector, similar happened with the escaflowne vector, I recorded many parts but I forgot to record the rest xD aho ne. Here the videos! you also can find them at Club Illustrator and in my journal
The video of the Process over the lips
The video of the Process over the Eye
Music while doing the wallpaper, yoko kanno, kenji kawai, gits ost, escaflowne ost, steve conté, aerosmith, gorillaz, lady gaga and some electronic music.
This wallpaper is all made with vectors, using Illustrator cs4,layers: 8, sublayers : i don't know =.= Time: One month + few days. 72.5 MB. original size 7000x4375px. The PNG is the best. Original picture:
As always i hope you like it, this one is very special to me, commentaries will be very appreciated, thanks ^^

Very good job saiyagok!
I really like the way it came out, and you chose a great scan to base it from. A great job considering this is all vector/illustrator work.
My personal favorite parts are the way you did her hair, eyes, and how she blends into the circle shapes. The hard edge vector shapes in her hair work quite nicely.
I like the overall color scheme and it makes the wall very pleasing to look at.
I myself might have preferred more precise circle shapes, but you yourself mentioned how you preferred it like this and tested with more perfect symmetrical shapes so I understand.
Thanks for the hard work; time to go add this to my desktop :D

Awesome! First off, gorgeous vector, the lighting on the original is hard to emulate, but you've just made her glow even more beautifully with your highlights. I especially love the lighting on her lips, they're just so pouty and alive! And I really like the angle and background shadows and light too, it's not just flat, it's like, we're zooming in on her. Great quality too, looks amazing in PNG!

wow..amazing wall considering it was all done in Ai.
I love how you vectored her skin, eyes and hair plus the way you made the shadows and lighting really gave the character more depth than the original scan.
I'm also glad that you used the grayish violet colour for your background, it perfectly worked well, not too bright not too dark, and it made the character stand out plus the technical details and circuits added a lovely touch.
Love the circle idea its creative and make this wall unique.
Great work definitely deserves a favorite :)
really thank you so much for sharing it and waiting for your tutorials :D

So this is what you've been working on! *___* Very cool! The parts that stood out to me are how you kept the colors nice and vibrant in her hair and eyes. I also enjoyed watching your video processes. :3 That shade of purple you used for the bg is well chosen too - it's a nice non-offensive neutral color that goes nicely with her. And I also like the transition of her bust into the broken circle shapes - it's a neat idea. However I also like the small circle tech shapes found in the original scan - integrating some of those in your wall here and there might give it a little something extra. :3 Personally, I think I would like it if the "resolution" text were a darker purple, to help give some more contrast and balance to the overall bright lower half of the wall (in contrast to how there's bright shine on her dark bangs, having darker text on her bright chest would look good juxtaposed to that, visually making it more balanced). I also think the shade below her jawline on her neck could be a tad darker (and more reddish like the shade under her bangs, but not that dark). And even though it's not really visible in the scan, I would also use this same shade to darken the area below the lower lip too, or at least darken a line there, because that lip kinda blends into the colors of her chin. Overall very nice work! It's cool to see you play around with the gradients, blurs, and blending modes in AI, and of course impressive you did these processes via "speed" vectoring. :D Looking forward to your next works!

This is VERY lovely. I love the creativity of the concept behind here. :D The EYES and the HAIR are to die for. (OwO) I mean, it even looks better than the scan itself! The colors are absolutely vibrant! And the extensions that you did to her hair actually makes the whole mood and look of the wall. :D
Creating and applying the digital circles onto her and the BG makes it even more surreal and KICK-ASS than ever! I do however wish that you could've used some circle shape/outline guides to have overall digital feel to the circles that you've made. From afar, it doesn't looktoo obvious but when you look at it closely, you can tell that it is not curving that right.
Other than that, I TOTALLY LOVE the lines coming from her and spreading out! It kinda has that "Matrix" feel to it. LOL.
My suggestions would be:
Why not add an intense glow (which slowly fades to the darkness of the BG) of purplish-magenta behind her to add that extra drama to it (since she is bright from the glow herself. :D)
Adding in some "digital/technical" typography would be totally KICK-ASS for this wall. \m/
Overall, great job on this one. You are GOOD JOB. LOL. (OwO)

I was a little shocked at first when i saw that this is done is illustrator! The hair is simplying amazing ans soooooooooooo beautiful! Detailed hair is amazing and i must say you have pulled this off very well, like the painted look and then those soilds...ahhh love!!
I would have put the text a little bigger But thats me. But lovely choice of type face! Her shoulders have gone a bit masucaline though.

I love how vibrant the purple of the vector is <3 as well as the general composition.
The hair and eyes are lovely; but the shading of the skin seems a bit overly blurred. You should also try carrying some of the beautiful purples in the character vector throughout the rest of the wall, perhaps in some of the circle fragments (try fiddling around with different layer settings instead of just changing the opacity). I did read that you didn't want a "boring violet color" over the entire wall, so maybe you could integrate some of the lighter blues you can see in the original scan?
Beautiful work, though, great job!

Hi saiya^^~ Sorry for my late comment, because I feel sick these day & busy my office work & new wall(I just finish it, just feel free to take a look when free XD)
I really enjoy the way you vector & paint Motoko, it really look so real & awesome, especially her lips & body, I think that is the Best Part of her. Although the hair look a bit unsmoothed, but she still look great.
The way of you colour concept also great, deep colors of the background which contrast well with the brighter purple, it really make your wall easy to focus^^ I'm also love the concept of those electrical line, it really making your wall look good. And here my opinion, how about you just do another revision that to change those line into lighting brush effect? it may look great^^
Another great job of you, is absolutely wonderful. Fav+ for sure~ XD

Cool wallpaper. I'm a big fan of the Ghost in the Shell series. I watched the movie a long time ago but found it to be kind of boring, but after watching SAC, I revisited and enjoyed it. I really like the colors you used on the wallpaper. They go very well with Motoko's purple hair and her other features like her eyes. The background effect is great as well. It really gives the wall a high tech feel, sort of like she's diving into someone's head. Anyway, this is a very impressive wallpaper. Keep up the awesome work!

Ghost in the Shell is one of my favorite anime's ever. And the lovely way you vectored Motoko is astounding. She is so alive in the vector, and that in itself is wonderful. I think you did an amazing job on this. Keep up the amazing work!
