It's been a while since i last created a wall.....it feels like ages....anyway, now i'm in a holiday so i decided it is time make something new ^^
I found this macross scan by chance, it really reminded me of those great retro games during the sega and nitendo era, so i thought why not create a wall with a retro feel in it.
For technical stuff, the scan was vectored in Ai and it took almost 2 weeks with 100 layers. Most of my time was spent trying to depict some of the paint feel from the original scan, which was frustrating at times plus i had to use other different reference images to complete the missing parts from the scan. Finally i added some metal texture to the helmet and to the other metal parts to give them a metallic feel.
For the work on the wall, since my theme was based on retro games i wanted the wall to look something similar to a title screen from the old video games. The girl is my main focus and i didn't want the background to over power it so i tried to keep it simple by creating a space scene which can represent both, a macross symbol and old space games title screens.
For the colouring, i used only two colours since most of macross images during that time focus on two powering colours plus it helped in making the wall reflect the retro feel.
As for the title, i was listening to rocketeer song by Far East Movement :p so i thought why not use it as a title.

I swear you outdone yourself with every wallpaper you make.
The whole concept behind this is pretty flawless, though I can't help but feel I have seen that design plus color scheme somewhere else. Maybe an album cover? Or more like, the whole thing reminds me of that, hehehe. Not that it's a bad thing lol. Just wanted to mention it.
Absolutely great job with the vectoring, overlaying that gradient on it was also a very smart choice. The hair might be a little to flat in comparison to the rest of the vector, especially upon the textured helmet and the spacesuit. Maybe more strands would do the trick?
I also wished the text (I adore that song by the way :>) was a bit bigger and I'm very curious to see how it would look like if it was a bit more shiny, like a bit of a glossy text? Not overdoing it of course.
Aside that, this wallpaper is prection, totally different of what gets submitted these days :3 noms wall

Wow, gorgeous vector! Never though I'd see someone take on Macross with such dedication! The style and lighting is so nice, but I just feel like catchier colors would have given this more impact. I feel like the brights should be brighter or something. I think it would have been more noticed too, especially considering how well it's done ^^;

This is stunning. I love the feel and the colors. I agree with what someone else said it isn't something you see everyday. Like the use of shapes too. Awesome jobbie. =)
