Hello, it's been a while :) I got a full-time job now, so Photoshop has become a 1-hour-a-night or none-at-all thing. Plus, I did a wall for Alice: Madness Returns, and I do have one more of those in the pipeline, but I don't know when I can get to work on it...
For the full description of this wall, please refer to my dA journal. It's quite long though...got carried away a little, I guess.
So here's the short description. I wanted to have: 1) a pastel faded colour wall, and 2) an out-of-bounds wall
After letting the idea vegetate for a long time, I finally managed to combine the 2 together with Okami. The window stuff is the "portrait" or "the other landscape", Ammy jumps out to another place, with the bamboo. I know the window frame looks a little weird like that, hanging in mid-air, but I really don't know what to put behind it that will add to the depth of the wallpaper (eg. scenic mountains) and not make the window look out of place. For it to not look out of place, I need a wall (I mean, a real wall, not short-form for wallpaper), and that has no depth at all. Dilemma! D:
This wallpaper is mostly painted, and I learnt a different way to smudge such that it gives a more....hard feel than the normal smudging that I do. I wanted to do all vectors initially...but after seeing the random and almost haphazard way that Ammy was shaded, I decided to go with painting too. I used this image as a reference for the ground for the torii, and this image for both Ammy and Issun. The mountain was referenced from a real in-game picture: I loaded up my PS2, got the in-game camera to centre on some distant mountains, and used my digital camera to take a picture of the TV screen. Finally, the bamboo was referenced (but not copied!) from this stock image.
This is a rather simple wallpaper, and it only has 119 layers. It's rather few, considering that I'm a crazy "add layers as and when I like it" Photoshoppist ;P
If anyone bothers to view this/add comments, thank you very much :) I'm not very responsive on the web as I'm lousy at replying to comments, but I still appreciate receiving nice comments/criticisms.

ZOMGWTFHBBBQROFLMFAO!!!
It's been a LO-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG while since I've seen a wallpaper submission from you! XD If I remember correctly, your last wall was a Kingdom Hearts one, is it not? :D
It doesn't matter whether you used a lot of layers on this one or not, what matters is the final outcome of it (which I find perfectly seamless and well crafted, if I must say so). I do love the pastel colors and it's very relaxing to look at to be quite honest. I love the subtle patterned smoke in the BG. The window isn't weird-looking at all for me. I kinda interpret it as a portal of some sort. The overall layout of the background is very balanced and crisp and clean. The background inside the window is neat and clean as well. I love how the sun has the fire swirls as well.
Great job overall! \m/ New desktop. YAYZ.

Dude this is possibly the best okami wall ever and there's a lot of good ones to compete with. This is really professional level in terms of the quality of all the elements combined into a seamless final image. Love the light colors and the window into a greater world behind it. The symmetry of the bamboo feels pleasing also. Great work!

Well-named, and even more well executed wallpaper :D I really love the tranquil feeling it gives me, and the soft colours and brush strokes really help to enhance the peacefulness of the wall. I admire how you blended vector outlines with painting too - I've always wanted to learn how to do that! <3 it!

Gorgeous wallpaper. I love how serene and peaceful it is, very fitting title. My favorite part is probably how non-jarring the colors are. Its so pretty, fantastic job! +fave

Very nice work! Really like the soft colors, the symmetry, and the great graphical quality to it. :3 The space between the top of the wall and the edge of the portal frame feels a bit too tight! Perhaps lower it a few pixels. Also to increase the portal feel, mask away her drop shadow in the areas inside the landscape, but keep it on the frame border and on the foreground grass. It will really look like she's popping out of it then! :D

I love this picture :D Simplicity in color and texture, yet the same simplicity has a piece of beauty in it. I'm guessing the wolf is named Amaterasu. Love how it's stepping through the frame as it it's breaking the fourth wall.

The colors used give a soft feeling, a very relaxing bg. Funny that Issun is the one that stands out the most. :)
