This is the vector design of Clannad's Nagisa Furukawa. For the first time, I have used Illustrator to replicate the character from the original scan so that the image can become sharper and clearer. It took me some time to "trace" the image, yet the end result for this process is a nice portrayal of one of my favorite anime characters.

Hmm... in general it looks fine but... the lineart could use some work. The lineart quality is inconsistent, while some lines are smooth curves, others get really bumpy (especially around her hat and the flowing ribbon). Also, why is that tiny top part of her hat cut off? You should just vector it too as cut-offs lowers the usefulness of vectors (to be made into wallpapers). While the whole vector does seem flat, it's really up to preference.

The original image had a variety of different lines. I tried to trace them nicely, but I think that they way I did is fine. Good thing you noticed the hat! I will fix that later. Thanks for the critique though.

The outlines are really messy but really this isn't bad for a first vector. When working on the outlines, try and look at the big picture and use less anchor points and try make it look a bit more smooth. It takes a lot of practice to do, and also don't forget you can go in and modify the outlines with the direct select tool I think, to try and make them look smoother. That's the way I do it at least. You mentioned that the original artwork had a variety of lines, and that may be true, but in vector artwork, your aim might not be to make it look exactly like the original, but instead to be cleaner, even in terms of outlines. One thing I noticed is that the revision where her hat isn't cut off, the resolution is actually smaller. Perhaps you could make so it is closer to the resolution on the original image. Anyways, keep up the good work and I hope to see more from you!

I will revise the lineart to make it smooth and possibly increase the resolution from the vector. (The file itself is heavy, though.)
Thanks for the comment and critique!

Shadow of the pleats on her white dress is very natural and realistic. Clean color and vector in the picture are drawing her pure character very well. Thank you very much for your work.

First off, thanks to the user who comment on this vector of Nagisa. I have to agree that the lineart is bumpy, but what I was trying to capture is the natural lineart from the original image. I am still practicing to trace smooth lines with my other vector design projects. It is time-consuming, but it is possible. I will revise the vector whenever I got the time.
But overall, thanks a bunch! I will post new vectors (for Clannad and other anime titles) when they are ready.

Well, guys. I have an announcement to make: an updated version of this vector is coming soon! I do not know when it will be ready due to my absence here in AP (job hunting), but I will take into consideration the critiques I have read here. But a big thanks to all of you.
