So after a long break from walling (after my laptop suffered a catastrophic calamity), I'm back with a wall (via new desktop and an upgraded version of Photoshop). Though I was able to retrieve my previous Photoshop works in progress, after seeing Lucky Kuma's wall: http://www.animepaper.net/art/236166/i-will-surpass-god%21I decided to give this scan of Black Star a shot.
The scan was extracted from the original scan, and nothing fancy went on there, just wanted to work on the background and break back in to Photoshop. I wanted to make a fresh and somewhat edgy wall that would capitalize on Star's personality. I worked in the various hues of blue found on Star's pants, hair, and the off-whites from his wrappings. I added a few grungy brushes and worked in the stars...which I thought was an obvious fit, but wanted to go for it anyway. Added a few effects to Star, just to give him some "edge," without trying to go overboard.
I actually spend the most time playing around with the perspective to try and match the perspective of Star's scan. In order to fill some of the negative space on the right, I grappled with various texts, fonts, and actual quotes from Star himself, before settling on some terse, but fitting, blurbs that I thought up.
Again, with Lucky Kuma's theme/wall in mind, I worked on the whole aspect of fighting to achieve the greatest goal possible, and tried to find a poetic way to phrase it. I also thought that "soul of a warrior" is poetic, though, it has probably been used before...even if it does fit Star. I liked the idea though, and thought it fit with the other text for its metaphorical and poetic nature.
