Hi!

The vector was made from this picture:

Sankarea picture

I like her pose and expression... and as usual, I hesitated between different BGs. I tried to make several different, and chose submitting these 2. All elements was drew then painted or vectored, and I payed my attention to the light and colors to create 2 different atmospheres.

I hope you'll like!

I like both! the one with the city scene is very detailed...very good use of light and shadow....all things connect perfectly including the little bit of green we see between the railings. I like the softness of the colors! The second one is very warm...the leaves are amazing...the detail of the roof is very impressive. I like the colors of this uniform better than the other version because they are a little darker, but it is a question of personal taste. Great work!

Cilou, I really like your ambition. I love how you go a bit above and beyond and generally make several types of wallpapers. What's more, I like how you always set out to do something different and are constantly putting out wallpapers.

I just wish you'd use the same dedication for quality control, instead of for submitting wallpapers.

I feel like a broken record when I say this, mostly because I've said this numerous times before and most recently on your last wallpaper. I cannot stress enough how important lighting is, and that if you choose to ignore the concept it completely throws off your wallpapers. You've got this interesting city landscape, but there's absolutely no lighting with it. During a night time scene, the city would not look that way. You've got a crescent moon sky with a bit of cloud cover, so the buildings should be shadowed and the light from the buildings should be creating shadows. Yet with this, this lighting is completely off. Rea, the railing, and the entire city. Everything is this wallpaper has absolutely zero shadows or has taken in any account for lighting. What's even more confusing, is the mountains in the background are completely black. If they entire city is illuminated by moonlight, then the mountains should be as well. I don't mean to be a jerk about it, but considering the sheer quantity of scenic wallpapers you product you should be accounting for lighting.

My second biggest problem is while the city looks cool, upon closer inspection it's sort of a hot mess. The majority of the architecture is constructed in a similar manner that the railing is. It bothers me, because I know you can create well detailed walls, and part of your city actually looks rather pleasing to the eye. Scenic wallpapers can be a huge pain in the ass with the sheer quantity of detail, but I know you've got the creativity and artistic ability to realize it and make it into a much better looking city as well. The biggest problem I see is the version 1 seems like it was simply rushed out without any refinement, when if you put more time into it and perhaps pushed back other wallpapers you might want to do, you could actually of had a seriously incredible piece. Perhaps make Rea's eyes red, it would be a great symbology linking the show to the wallpaper itself.

The second version is much easier on the eyes, but once again I run into the same issue that your first wallpaper had. Using an evening setting requires for, once again, proper lighting and shadowing. If the sky is painting in such a reddish orange color from the setting sun, she should be getting a touch of that as well. The tree and leaves definitely fair better than the city landscape, but once again could definitely benefit from more polish. Simply speaking, both pieces are fantastic concepts, but that's all they feel like. They feel like an beta build of a final project. Something that one would present to a client to show them what the plan is for the final, as oppose to being a finished product.

Cliou, I'm not going to tell you what to do, nor am I here to bring you down. I'm simply a member who thinks you have far too much talent and capability, and it's a shame to not see you utilize it. I know you are capable of greatness, and you have shown us that. However, once you raise the bar of quality on your work, anything less completely stands out from the fold. Take your time, refine a concept piece and really give it your all. Good luck to you in the future!

Going to leave a shorter comment this time since CrimsonCyanide and Brosteb said it best and I feel there's no need to repeat (in vain).

Out of the two versions, I think the first is the best - however, that's not saying much. While I do like it because its colors are less eye-melting than those of the second, the lack of details just ruins it. The shading on the buildings makes them look like inflatable kiddy castles and in no way fits the more crisp shading on the girl. Again, no sense of lighting in both versions: can't tell where the light is coming from to create the shadows you made. The leaves in the second version look like clipart and don't even get me started on the tree's shading.

The only thing I absolutely dislike about both versions is how much you tilted the girl, it feels like she's about to fall and there's no sense of balance - but that's more of a personal preference.

No suggestions because, honestly, you've received (and ignored) enough, both from myself and other, more experienced, wallers. Oh, wait, one suggestion: read Brosteb's comment whenever you feel a wallpaper is "done", then think about it: is it really done? Because, judging by the comments you keep getting, most of yours aren't.

Eh, one night version and one sunset autumn version?

I like both very much... especially when knowing the fact that it came of from a B/W and it turned out greatly colored at the finished versions.

Now getting both in time, and adding the 6th fav for you. Good job! +1

At first, I was thinking that the night view revision was looking good. However upon full view the illusion is lost and what we have is something of a mess. The city's buildings are constructed in a similar fashion to the railing so it seems as if the whole city's architecture is tubular. Details are inconsistent with the lights coming from the buildings looking like hand drawn rectangles. The "tubular architecture" makes for a very cluttered and messy background. The depth and perspective cannot be found as the cityscape is misaligned with the railing and the lack of detailed lighting cannot suggest a proper perspective. A glance at revision 2 has the tree trunk standing out too much (due to the way it was created) in comparison with everything else. You should perhaps have a similar style for all the elements in your work.

All that being said, your vector of Rea is definitely an eye catcher (in other words very beautiful) but it lost its charm when paired with such backgrounds. Quite a number of people before have already pointed out your flaws and you should really take them into consideration for your upcoming works. Best of luck in the future!

Ok... I really like your works, trust me I do... But only the first times that i've exposed to looking at your work... When I see more and more of your work... I'm getting disappointed over and over again.

So here's the thing... Like some people have already commented... the vector of Rea is superb... But the entire piece is a mess. But most of what I wanted to say have already said by CrimsonCyanide. Though I want to add my own opinions on your wall as well.

To be honest here... I love night scenes, i love that kind of scenic wall. But your night scene here... is a complete disappointment to me. The buildings are a mess... It's like those games where you connect the tube so that it can form a line reaching to the designated goal... They're not buildings, they're LINES. The mountains are just silhouettes of mountains... I really cannot consider that mountains. No, actually... the mountains... makes the wall even more awkward... It's like a seperator... of the city and the sky... It feels like there's something dark going on between that space; and to me, it makes me feel like the wall is incomplete and that there should be some other scenic elements ... But I really like how realistic the sky is in this version.

On to the second version... Oh boy... Well, let's say, it's better... in the least, but not really. It's more pleasant than looking at the city mess. But i'm disappointed with the sky. It's a sunset scene, It shouldn't be bold red-orange... it should be much lighter... The trees and leaves looks like it's in a very cool and calm state.... yet it feels like it's a hot and hectic scene... I seriously don't know how this would blend in... The only thing I like about this version is the setting and the leaves.

Those were the specific details in each of the version you've provided... So here're the universal problems... Lighting and shadow. It bothers me every time i look at your wall. Why is it... that in almost of your wallpapers, the subject of the main focus of the wall ALWAYS the brightest? It feels like you never incorporate the lighting throughout your wall, that includes the backgrounds and other stuffs, and you only focus the lighting on the main vector. The light doesn't come in specific shape... and your walls are telling me so... which isnt natural... In the first version, Rea shouldn't be that bright, she should be darker, her clothes should have more shadows and darker. There should also be shadows on the railings... and i'm seeing none. The second version, same thing with the first version, but she should be having orange-ish color on her... again, the tree needs more shadow, the roof needs shadows. And may i also note that she's sitting on a tree branch but she's still sitting under the leaves, so she SHOULD be darker in color.

And I also have to note on how in your walls... the light sources are always coming from the back of the subject of focus, but the shadows and the lights that is ON the subject of focus is from OUR point of view... It looks like you just vectored the subject, and you just leave the shadows and the lighting the way it is in the original scan, but you're not incorporating your own elements in it. That's why it's always weird seeing your wall. Though in this piece, the second version, it's ambiguous as to where the light source is at... It feels like it comes from the right... so the HUGE shadow on her left (right from our view) sleeve should be white, with less shadow.

My personal problem with your work, is your shadowing techniques. I still really feel uncomfortable looking at your shadows... some shadows are too bold, some are too solid, some are too dark that it's just dark color, it's not shadow.

And like other people commented, I'm doing this to help you. It seems to me that you discard the criticism, and only focus on the positive remarks that people said, which is not a good thing most of the time. Considering the criticism would make your wallpaper much better. I suggest that you can ask the community to help you out with stuffs like this. It's not the quantity that's important, but it's the quality. It's like music. I know bands who makes 10 songs in a month to release it the next few weeks, and their songs came out terrible. Whereas bands and musicians who takes 6-8 months or even a year or more than that, release amazing songs that I can call real music. In art, it works that way, it's not always the quantity, but the quality. If only you can take more time to create the pieces, like adding details, figure out what goes best, polish and refine your art work, and ask for suggestions, u would have amazing pieces of work.

Good job on the coloring. I like the pose too.

The first one, in my opinion i like better. It seems more natural and cleaner while the second one feels a bit too red-orange for my tastes.

I like the colors in the tree one, the deep reds and oranges make it feel really autumny! I know the original was sitting on a fence but I actually prefer it on a tree! Looks cooler haha! Love all the leaves too. I used to love making leafy wallpapers, I wanna make one again now.
