Hi,
in this wallpaper I've created the render of this scan:

My concept was a color explosion and a butterfly effect, where a cascade of squares "borns" from the subject.
My tech with screenshots in the spoiler:
- I've putted the scan on the left.

- I've worked with the pen tool to create fluo shapes.

- I've created a unique level with the fluo color and selected it to erase the background of original scan.

- I've added a shade on the background

- I've created three squares and putted behind the subjcet.

- I've created a square brush and worked with the options to develop the square cascade

7, I've added the butterfly wings with a brush, changed color and opacity at some squares and changed its position, as you could see in my wallpaper.

I think it would have looked so much better if you had vectored her to much into her bg, like a really simplistic vector, would work really well here IMO.

I have to agree with @Meronheddo
That is a really easy vector. And not too sound picky, but, if you are set on only using the scan you need to clean up the edges after your magic wand selectiion. The edges are realy rough and you missed a few sections of background inbetween the hair, plus some sections of hair even got cut off.... Plus the scan really needed to be cleaned be for it was used, it was not the of the greatest quality. Personaly I woult try using the pen tool to creat a vector mask. You will not have to deal with the issues of a dithered edge from cutting out the character and you can still cean the scan without any hassle or difficulty. This process will give you higher quality, greater accuracy, and less complaints.
I completely understand that these things happen when you are trying to develop new techniques. Just remember that "CUTTING CORNERS" never works and you are better off taking your time.
Don't get me wrong the concept is great but the follow through was rather poor. Understand I have abosolutely no complaint about the background but the quality of the character is really not good.

Well, I did'nt use the vector tech this time, and how you saidI like to change my ways to make a wallpaper and trying something different sometime. But thank you for your opinion.

not bad but that estrange texture on the jacket don't fit at all

The use of texture is a life saver when it comes to making walls extracted from the scan. It's a great way to cover up the "grainy-ness" of the scan......by making everything else grainy too. But by doing this they will blend better. You can also try editing the scan a bit (hue, contrast saturation and etc) and use stamp tool to get rid of imperfection in it. I use magic eraser tool for extraction. I did try all of the other ways of extraction but i find it faster and easier this way. Change the "tolerance" value to change how much you want to take away from the scan. Along with this i use history brush tool when I accidentally erased some parts. From using this method I have tons of extracted scans in png form ready to be used when the mood strikes X)
