Pheeeeew. It's done.
I remember stating on my gmesh'd Railgun vector, that I wouldn't be doing another like that for a while... Well, it looks like that while has elapsed, because I went all out and did it again. Effort.
Not really much for me to say, so, hope yall like it, credit isn't required as such, but i'd certainly appreciate it.
While I'm at it, shout out to R/a/dio, excellent listening for vector work :3
Oh yeah, more than happy to pass out the .ai file, but a quick warning, it's ~35mb, and takes up a fair bit of system resources to work on. I would have to imagine the current render is plenty big enough, but if it isn't, i'm more than happy to render another size for you.
Oh derp, forgot the link to the scan. Original scan here:
Yes, I do plan on doing the dress ;)
For those interested in Gradient Meshes (gmesh), These tutorials are a good starting point in my opinion:

The character is super cute! I want to learn how to use mesh. So far I only know how to use the regular gradients...
7 months, 2 weeks ago
Thanks :D
gmesh isn't that difficult once you get the basics down, it just becomes time consuming. Definately worth learning though, it really helps with smooth surfaces. Like, really helps.

Is there any place I can get a video tutorial to learn gmesh?
7 months, 2 weeks ago
The tutorials I followed when I first started doing gmeshes (the railgun vector) were these two:
<moved them to main post :D>
From there, it's practice makes perfect.

about dang time you slacker. good work. love the gradient/mesh. its got lots of depth.
7 months, 2 weeks ago
Huh, slacker right back at you, Mr I-Havin't-Uploaded-In-Four-Months...
Oh, wait...
Crap...
Haha, thanks aciduu.

It feels like you've really stepped up your coloring now (mistyped that as coding the first time, maybe your coding has stepped up too though!) I like the smooth coloring on the tail the best. Nice lines and shiny eyes! The hair looks really good too. With the shadows it really feels like its in front of her. Great work!
7 months, 2 weeks ago
Hahah, thanks banty :D
...One has to hope my coding has gotten better ;_;
Yeah, i'm really pleased with the tail. Took a bit of pondering and a few false starts to get to it, but certainly happy with the outcome.

Looking at that Ai screenshot, I feel like I haven't even grasped the basics of coloring lol. This looks tremendously good, nice work lemons. Looking forward to the dress version! (It will come right?)
7 months, 2 weeks ago
Haha, one could say i overdid this one juuust a little bit. Many thanks!
Dress version will come, but I have exams first. Also kinda wanna do the swimsuit first :)
7 months, 2 weeks ago
Wow, really nice! Love the detailed coloring on her skin and body, you're on hard mode XD
7 months, 2 weeks ago
Thanks nat!
...there was me about to thank you for the scan, but it would seem that this is off one of the (very) few scans you didn't upload. Thanks all the same :3

Splendid work as always Lemon. I look forward to the dress version.
7 months, 2 weeks ago
Thanks! I'll have to see how it goes~

I must say this is superb! I have always loved Poco and this is just one of the many reasons.
Your technique is of the charts! And the tutorials you provided are amazing, well done and super informative. You might get me to vector with Ai yet.
I will be waiting on pins and needles in anticipation for the dress version! I think my favorite part aside from your wire frame construction is your shading and control of the color. Which makes you believe she's real... ^_^ Save for those adorable anime eyes... which the world would be better off with. Also, you have managed to, somehow, subtly accentuate the depth of field for this lovely character. Thank you so much! +FAV

Thanks major! Glad you like the tuts, I certainly found them helpful. And yes. Join the Ai master race. You know you want to!
Haha, joking. That said, (and i'm assuming you use Inkscape here), i've heard rumours that a gradient-mesh-alike tool/whatsit may be added to inkscape sometime in the possibly-not-too-distant-future, and may be included as part of the SVG standard as well, but we shall have to see how that pans out.
... And now that you mention it, wow, the eyes are prtty much the only bit that have no meshes at all. Panties are the only other non-100%-mesh bit.

Actually believe it or not I'm a dyed in the wool Photoshoper! I have to use it so much for work and school (when I was in school.. I'm taking time off 4 years off so far). I was rather surprised about the school thing cause I started out in Ai... they were very against it. My ranting aside I have not really got the hang of inkscape. Mostly cause I don't like to read the PDF instructions... it's a really long book. I'm impatient and like to jump right into things. But I have to say I am reaching the limitations of Photoshop.... not to mention I'm using CS3.
Yeah inkscape could really use the gradient-mesh.
Regarding the eyes... yeah meshing the eyes that would be interesting, but it is understandingly one of those things I too prefer to do by hand.

Ahh, photoshop. Fair enough.
Although it's specifically aimed at Inkscape, this guide is a pretty good quick-start into anime vectoring with a vector program.

hmmmmmmm, she dont need that bra...... xD lol sorry i had to^^
so anyway, this is really nice n neat! the gradients look lovely and the whole image feels so soft!

You know, I was actually pretty tempted to do a nude version, but for the fact i'm totally useless unless I have the artwork already, which, unfortunately, I do not ;_;.
Thanks KK :D

This is very nice! and cute I really like this style of coloring vectors ,its so soft
I'll have to look up that tutorial you gave! or I better practice on gradients first than mesh!? XD
7 months, 1 week ago
Many Thanks!
Uhm, it depends really. I suppose you would need a basic idea of how gradients work in Illustrator, but the usage of gmesh is sufficiently different you can use it without great knowledge of standard gradients. Up to you, really :)

In Touhou terms, you've 1CC'ed Hard Mode! Next step: Lunatic. +1!
Excuse me, I have to mop the floor. Bloodstains all around. ;3

Oh man. Not lunatic. Please, not lunatic.
I can barely make it through a Normal game of the bullet-hell touhou games ;_;
Thanks, gamma :)

Amazing work especially on the mesh. Must've taken you quite some time for you to get it all looking right. The one time I tried a full mesh vector led me to repeatedly bash my head against the wall. On that note, the colouring looks wonderful, it all looks so soft yet appealing. Maybe I should try again some time... Anyways, great work!

Many thanks! :D
Hahaha, yeah, I know the feeling. This time wasn't so bad, as I already knew what I was in for. But the first time? Drove me (close to) insane, I tell you. Pheeewwwwww~~
Have a try at it, it's not for everybody, nor every scan.
7 months, 1 week ago
Very informative (gmesh video) :-) I think I'm going to try that :-D
