Shinomori Aoshi: my favourite character when I watched RK some 10 years back. I think it was 10 years, maybe 11? As Saitou would say: ten years, it’s only 2 words, yet to live it is a long time.
...meaning, I’m old D:
The full description can be found here, as usual. I’m such a long winded old granny. I used this image from Black Cat as my reference. This is the first wallpaper that I’ve completed in Photoshop CS6, so...it’s a milestone for me! :D
I painted as much as possible, only using vectors for the base colours and for the outlines. I also used the default Photoshop brushes, and normal gradient/noise/cloud filters for the textures and for the background. It’s a fully do-it-myself wall, so no credits required! :D
I went excessive on dark shades, so there are some points which you see are pure black (I sampled them and the result was #000000). However, I did some layer masking to prevent the loss of certain details, for example, the shades on the hand. The signature is a little difficult to see; I did try adding a stroke and experimenting with colours, and this is the "optimized solution". The petals were referenced from the Black Cat image, though there are some which I did myself to fill in the gaps. I don’t like the idea of filling in petals myself because I don’t trust my own drawing skill. Can you spot those which I did myself? I hope not!
EDIT: I forgot to put in the reference to the original image. Sadly it's not a paused screen shot; it's a manga cover. So I guess I like unrealistic poses? =P But then again, it is manga, where everything is exaggerated...
EDIT2: Here's the original painting without all of those crazy textures and gradients :D

Um wow.. not entirely sure what to say at first glance. It is very impressionistic and cubistic all in one?!?! The quality of the work is amazingly good. But it has a sense that you are stretching it, the pose is very un-natural and forced. As a martial artist & ex-gymnast I should know, I have some of the best pumsae on the west coast. This pose is just so painful to look at... it makes my joints hurt, not to mention my trick dislocating shoulder burn with pain. But even at that the lighting is really great... I know this is an understatement. The highlights and shadows are fluid and cares the character, unlike his stance. I might work on finding a better reference next time even if it's a paused screen shot. But all in all this deserves a fav. You did a great job keep up the awesome work!

Nice contrast between red petals and the rest of the wallpaper. Great job!

This is quite lovely to be honest. I really LOVE the colors and how you colored it. The subtle textures really add a nice touch to it. As for the flower petals (?), they kinda stand out a bit for me. The overall perspective of Aoshi is good but for me, it kinda lacks that motion/action. Maybe adding in some lines and blurring his right hand would add a nice motion feel to the whole wall. Also, you could make it look like as if the petals were swept by that motion as well as Aoshi was drawing his katana from its sheath. You could also add a bit of motion to his cloak on the upper right side of the wall. IDK. XD
Other than that, the colors are pretty well done. :D
