"I beg you, God... If this is how my life ends... Let me see a happy dream, just once..." -Sakura Kyoko
"Wishing for someone else's happiness means someone has to be cursed to suffer as much. That's what it means to be a Puella Magi." -Miki Sayaka
So, I ended up making something completely different this time. Instead of making something funny, or cute, or ecchi...I made something a bit heart-wrenching for me. The reason being of course, because the two characters in my wallpaper are none other than Kyoko and Sayaka from Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't seen the show, but their story is quite emotional and I wanted this wall to convey some of that emotion. I want the people who view my wall to feel something from this wall. If you have seen the show, and this wall makes your chest get tight or some feelings well up inside you, then my job was completed. If that didn't happen, then at least I hope you enjoy my artwork. Although it might not be the best visually to have the clashing red and blue, there are a few reasons I picked though colors. For one, it's the color scheme(matches the hair color, soul gem, and themes)of the two girls in the wall. Also, in the show, those two are constantly clashing and start out as enemies and so I would like to represent that in my wall. Even though it may not be the most pleasant to look at, I like that. When your eye sees it, you can see the conflict.
The process of making this wall didn't take too long. It took some work getting the silhouettes right on the characters and to make them look right. I'm not 100% satisfied because I didn't really intend for this to become a wall so some of the hair outlines aren't sharp enough...but oh well. Once I created the vector I added a variety of textures and gradients to them in order to give some depth and texture and the water/fire theme. I got some cool textures from this guy http://borysses.deviantart.com/ so the credit for those textures goes to him. Anyways I hope you enjoy this wallpaper and if you haven't seen the show, please do yourself a favor and watch it. Cheers.

I generally like this kind of work and your is well done, really particular but I think there should be more contrast between the two colors because they are both dark and not so far, I think you could try a make some reviison changing the two colors (black and bright yellow for exemple or true cyano and pure magenta). The texture is nice but putted casually, it seems, and for my taste I like more flat color without this kind of effects. You could try to use a wood texture as a wood low relief using dark and light brown for exemple or red and white as "A Game of Throne" God tree because the composition is rounded from outside to the middle as a hole tree. This is some ideas I had when I saw your work :). After that your work is nice and striked my attention, so it's good, at least. ^___^

Thanks for your comment Sam. I like your ideas about what to do on the wallpaper, although I think I will keep it the same. Although it might not be the best visually to have the clashing red and blue, there are a few reasons I picked though colors. For one, it's the color scheme of the two girls in the wall:
And also, in the show, those two are constantly clashing and start out as enemies and so I would like to represent that in my wall. Even though it may not be the most pleasant to look at, I like that. When your eye sees it, you can see the conflict. Again, thanks for the feedback.

Very interesting wall, very creative! I wouldn't have gone with the red/blue combo it clashes a little. Nice work giving it texture, gives it nice depth!

It's submitted! Well now that i've seen the anime, i can get a better look at this. The moment is from ep9 and the girls are none other than Kyouko Sakura (in red) and Sayaka (in blue). For those who're wondering, The wall basically tries to represent Hapiness & Despair/curse. That there's a Balance in the universe, that if someone has Hope or gains happiness it will be balanced by Despair/curse to another if not the person itself. So even thou the colors represented might not interest everyone, they're exactly the same as in the anime..so i think fans would appreciate it. Different revisions may appeal audience, but im glad you kept it original. Gave it a fresher/brighter appeal by playing around with shade and gradients and added textures to give depth which blended in quite well. Also I can see why you said you didn't intend to make a wall of this, but it's good that you did to capture that moment and the feelings in it..and conveyed what you were aiming for.

If I were to use one word to describe this wallpaper it would be "elegance". I love the concept behind this and only having the wall being based around their silhouettes really brings forth your message. I do notice that the red is much more dominant than the blue, would there be a reason behind this? Anyway, great work!

At first, I thought it was simple wall. But as I read your comment, it has a powerful message. The message of this wall becomes powerful and clear because of its simplicity. Simplicity has bring this wall to have a good level of attraction coupled with a good message, this wall really deserves a +FAV. Although the composition, technique and the concept of opposite sides was not something really new, BUT I really feel the the feelings that you want to convey through your wall. I REALLY LOVE IT!

Interesting wall Eric. I like the simplicity you chose for it and the colors fit the two characters well. The texture is really cool too. One thing that helps me, is that I'm able to get a sense of their feelings and emotions even though you have almost 0 detail because I saw the series. It's rare to see you push the artistic concept and I think you succeeded well.

You know, the simplicity of this wall is the reason I like it so much. I haven't seen the anime, and I don't know the characters, but I can get a good feel of their dichotomy from the two contrasting colors. From their silhouettes, I can tell that this is a pretty emotionally serious scene, and I think this gravity is best portrayed through a simple image... it diverts the audience's attention away from frilly graphics and instead focuses it towards the emotional depth portrayed. Well done!

I like how you only incorporated two colors.

This was such an emotional scene in the anime. I like your portrayal of it. The red and blue colors (which are very opposite) are fusing together to become one, is very fitting of that moment in the anime!
