In order save the world, the hero must partner with one of two girls who have the power to weave poems into song for magic. To make things more interesting both girls are "levateilles" (my translation, I could be way off on the spelling) which seem to be a sort of chobit-like, synthetic human. I say, chobit-like as it seems that they are meant to have no emotions, but the story wouldn't progress if they stayed that way! ^^
The game's full title is Ar-Tonelico: Sekai no Owari de Shi Tsudzukeru Shoujo, which seems to translate to something like, Ar Tonelico: The Girl Who Continues To Sing At The End of The World". And that is a mouthfull.
