Hi there everyone!! Vampy is back! Wooo =P
Okay, here I go....
I recently marathoned the series Aquarion Evol, or Sousei no Aquarion if you prefer, and LOVED IT! It was hilarious and a really good watch. I loved the art style most of all and couldn't help taking a bunch of screenshots from the opening and endings, and that's where this wall comes from. One particular shot that I took during the opening titles just grabbed me and wouldn't let go, I HAD to wall it.

So, I have changed it slightly from the screenshot simply due to the fact that I am not the best at doing backgrounds and the screens really REALLY annoyed me... ugh >.>
I used free transform path on the shapes in order to get the screens the way they are, trying really hard to get the right perspectives. The glow was a bit of a challenge until I got the hang of using several duplicate layers and adding some gaussian blur to the top layer to smooth the transition.
But I hope you like the result of all my tinkering and playing. I'm pretty damn happy with it =)
Total work time - Two days, though not working on it 24/7, so a full day in total I'd guess. As always comments and suggestions / tips are always welcome!

Great choice of an image and great vector work. Love the hair! I imagine vectoring that perspective is quite tough especially when you're making changes to the background! Nice texture work too, gives it some really nice depth! Really well done! Also love the cleaned up colors compared to the original!

I'm glad you made an Aquarion Wallie! Aquarion has got to be one of my favorites from last year; it's been years since I saw a show that wasn't afraid to be wacky and over the top! Good job vampy!

Certainly love the glow, it brings more of the elevator-y tech-savy look. Vectoring is one of your strong suits and this one wasn't an exception, specially the eyes look dazzling also love the overall fine and clean colors. I noticed you kept the matrix blocks at a minimum and tried to replace with dim 010110 type numbers which was a good step, since the blocks would've kept the wall a little too much busy on the the eyes. Great effort vamps!

I haven't seen the anime, but your wall really made me want to see it :P Like the vectoring and the only thing I think is kinda too vibrant are the eyes, a tone under that and they would probably look a bit more human (though I have no idea if that particular guy is human or not xD)

Haha he's not at all human, but I wouldn't say he was alien either, just a person from another dimension! =P But I can see what you mean with how bright his eye is. I really have a thing for eyes, so I try to make them a point of focus in any of my vectors. I agree it does look a little too bright and I may address that when I tweak the vector a little later, I have some shading changes I want to make. But thankyou for taking the time to comment and yes the anime really is worth watching, just keep in mind that it's a show that likes poking fun at itself =P

Amazing work vampy sis!! I love it from top to bottom, the colors looks great and that eye is just really captivating, love the work you did with the background, I feel like the screens are gonna start moving any second. Having said that I would have really loved if the screens had kept the...vibe, I guess, from the screenshot, that each screen had individual information of one sort or another, but I can understand why you left it out. Overall, great work vampy sis, love it, and I'm sure there is no need to mention that it's a +FAV for me =3

I agree whole heartedly and I did want to do that with the screens, but I was just at a loss as to how to achieve that kind of detail without it looking stupid, i'm really not that confident when it comes to backgrounds and this one really did test my patience at times xD So although I didn't go with the detailed look I tried to keep in with the theme with the lock on symbol, hope it worked =)

I like what you've done with the background in that it feels more involved with the character than the screen shot and creates more movement. but I can't help but feel that the hair seems to have gotten much flatter shape wise or maybe it's the whole head, but to me the anatomy there doesn't feel right, I'm not sure if it's due to the highlights on the hair though. In terms of the highlights there, the screenshots does a much better job of reflecting the light properly with the shine whereas yours seems to have much flatter values as if he's underwater. On the topic of highlights, the ones on the sweater are obviously influenced by the lights around the character, but other than the borders of the sweater they should also conform to the shape of the folds on the sweater like the shadows do, otherwise they will look too stiff. In addition, since the outlines are on the thick side it would help if the highlights were overlayed on top of the outlines as well, because realistically there won't be such a boundary. Also, it's perfectly fine to leave his left hand and legs in one shade, but it would look much better if the lines of those were in a slightly darker colour, because right now those two parts seems like part of the line rather that part of the character himself. Probably because the rest of the character is made up of filling + lines whereas the legs and arms are just lines. and Lastly I think it would look really good if you extended the screens deeper into the tunnel even if it's just copy and paste, the abrupt stop there seems unnatural given the context (:

Wow, thanks for the awesome feedback, it's much appreciated. I will definitely be addressing the lighting issues you brought up. In my hurry to get the wall finished I totally overlooked those things that I would have otherwise have made sure were done. A little too much excitement over finally getting the background the way I wanted it, I think =P I'll be revising my vector soon so thanks for pointing out my oversights! But I'm glad you liked it.

When I see a wall by Vampy, I would be amazed by the vector. =O I like her vectoring style, especially when it comes to the colour. It is better as compared to the one in the screenshot and I can see the improvement. Well done again! ^^ Back to the background design, I love what you've done for this wall. The details ranging from the glow to the lighting is well designed and I can see the efforts in this wall. My fav part would be the glow, i love the colours. Perhaps some brushes can be used to make a blurry wind effect below the character. It would make the design more interesting (that's just based on my opinion xp). Anyway, great job! Looking forward to see your next work! XD
