Wow awesome background, it's looks so dark i like it good job

I had this scan sitting in photoshop a whole night after I watched Submarine Blue, and nothing I came up even close to how good this is. Im usually against the use of instant stock backgrounds, and thats why i like yours, because you edited and manipulated it to such an extent. The storm and the overall madness in the background is just very fitting, especially if one has watched the anime. The extraction of the scan could use some touch ups but thats minor considering everything else. Love how you incorporated the title. If it were me I would've added some texture..but Im a slut for those. :3

woah talk about high blending, altough i was hoping that gat would have won this sort of explains why he did not win. the setting and colour use are all splendid the scan is blended in nicely with some good shadow. love the bridge and stuff behind it. bad point i find the realism of the background wich is a bit 2 realistic in comparation with the scan but it surtainly looks good. Great job and keep it up

It's a nice wall but you made it way too dark. It's hard to tell exactly what's going on in the background and it's hard to make out the character. Still, it's easy to see you put effort into this wall and it paid off. Personally, I love the lightning hitting the buildings in the background. Good job.

Not bad, being a stock-photo kind of wallpaper. There are a couple of mistakes and not so correct elements here and there though: one that has been pointed out (the extraction, the character feels paper-cut in some areas), the others would be:

• The brick wall is not exactly correct perspective-wise. Why? Because it has no depth at all. That would be correct if the horizon line was actually placed exactly where the brick wall ends, but the horizon line in this case is way above the wall, as the background/skyscrapers skyline indicates. For that reason, the viewer should also be able to view the top part of the brick wall even if it's by a very slight amount.

• The fires in the background are too saturated. Remember that a rule of thumb in illustrations is that objects placed in the very far tend to blend color-wise and lighting-wise with the the background colors. Your background colors in that are are dark blue and very desaturated, for that reason the fire and the smoke should reflect that to show depth and be as much as desaturated or somehow reflect the blue hue of the background.

And that's it. It's a nice idea, and you could eventually rework this and paint over it, turning it into a nice digital matte painting. :)

Excellent wallpaper and the theme is very well presented. You really do feel that sense of hopelessness and chaos of the wallpaper. This thing looks apocalyptic... I wouldn't want this on my computer desktop, I'd rather have it as a print on the wall. You should consider getting this one printed up large scale as a poster or something. It's one of those things that everytime you look at it you get a different impression.

I thought this was one of the best-created wallpapers. The war background has intense fight scenes and a great use of fire, missiles, and lighting. The title "Wars are Ugly Affairs" was an unsual title because it looks as if the character is enjoying the war. Nice textures and skin tones used for the sky. A dark mixture of black, red, and yellow colors. Keep the work and effort up!

Well I like the background too. However I do think that it seems kinda out of context if you see the wallpaper as a whole. The show - if one has seen it - isn't as dark as this wallpaper seems to make it (even though all the elements you put in the background are certainly not out-of-place). The best of this wallpaper is certainly the lightning. But while the background's lightning is perfect, the foreground's (especially the scan's) lightning seems to be rather strange. In the background the difference of bright and dull areas is extreme - while in the scan it seems rather as if an "average" has been picked.

Therefore I think the foreground doesn't really go with the background. But each of them looked at separately surely is a great view. Oh and yes: the background seems to be a tid too realistic. If it were a rendered anime such as Appleseed or KARAS - I might have understood it.. but Blue Submarine No.6 is all but special in terms of animation quality.

Hope I didn't discourage you but I just had to state my opinion.

Of course - by all the critics I pointed out - the wall is great!

Oh so this is what Gat was up against..... Well it's really awesome, no wonder u won that challenge. Great blending of the scan and the background. The dark, ominous feeling brought from war is very well expressed in the waller, and the character has adds more darkness to it. I like how u placed the title, it's cleverly done. The background on this wallpaper is absolutely STUNNING!!! I find it something very interesting to just pick apart and stare at. There's definetly a promising talent behind the work. The only problem I have with the work is that the character seems to be somewhat out of place in the wallpaper. The background seems to be the focus of the wallpaper and I don't think that's the original idea of the piece. But, like I said it's a very good wallpaper regardless. Keep it up and I hope to see more from you in the future.

The photo manipulation and blending was done nicely and you used very cool colors in this. I love the background with the lightning and buildings even though it's getting destroyed (which is sad). The red clouds give off a war feeling to this wall which is probably the whole point. xD The scan goes with the wall perfectly and i love the idea of putting the title on the stone part. nice skills there. But maybe you might like to consider some contrast. At least it makes the character being seen. Kinda too dark, so it makes the character hard to see clearly. Maybe should move the character a little to the bright side. Experiment a bit. It might work. Good job.

Wow...gritty, surrealistic and totally awesome! The clouds and fires in the background are great, but a nice touch is how the title text for image is worked into the foreground and blended in without being tacky and obvious.

Great wallpaper, the background is superb. The character doesn't feel right... and for some reason, I don't think it even looks like who it is supposed to look like... but that may be problem with the scan itself, and not a fault of your own. (Or I'm just used to seeing him barechested throughout the entire show, could be that too.)

Very nice, but it seems a bit too dark. The character blends in too well. You can barely tell that they're even there! Maybe make them stand out a bit more by litening them or making them contrast a bit with the background.

I absolutely love the background. When you look at the wallpaper, the first thing you do notice is the background. Then your attention draws to the foreground, where you see the text, "Wars are ugly affairs" and you see the character standing there.

I do believe this is a work of art because, in my opinion, you're trying to guess at the characters intentions on his pose. The overall composition is masterfully done however the mood is sketchy.

I like the dark and stormyness of the battle behind him. The character himself gives the picture a cold, and gloomy feeling while the red clouds give it the "total danger" look. Very Nice!

I wouldn't use it as a wallpaper because it has too much detail and the icons would be too hard to see as a result. With that said;

Artistically: 9 out of 10(composition and choice of set pieces are good) Functionality: 5 out of 10(too busy for a wallpaper, too much detail) Concept: 9 out of 10(very cool concept, dark and full of chaos) Execution: 8 out of 10(wars are ugly affairs sign is too "clean" and fake looking)

Overall: 7.75, I like the wallpaper as a piece of art but it isn't a good wallpaper. You should feel pretty proud of it though, I can see the hard work you put into it. Definitely worth the download, thanks a lot.

Colors of This Wallpaper is Dark but not Gloomy. Feelings of This Wallpaper Has Stability and Power. Thunders and Clouds with Heavy Effects and Blendings are Very Impressive. The Starring's Face Has Nice Angle. Thanks for Your Good Work.

Although I don't think the character's animation style quite appropriately meshes with the background--the person is very smooth, and his superimposition against the meticulously-detailed city-and-storm background draws a little too much attention to this difference... I adore the background, though, and think that if the character were perhaps given some texture (or something similar--I have no idea what, though, as I have never even seen photoshop or any other *good* image editing software), he would match his surroundings a bit better, which I think would add much more quality to the overall production. Especially his pants, which are hardly distinguishable from the brick wall behind them. Very nice, however. Me gusta... mucho.

I love your colors.. and the gradient, color changes throughout the wall~ .. the background is also very nice... perhaps they are too realistic though.. :x .. the character clashes a little against the brick wall and the background scenery, since they are from stock photos. Perhaps blurring them, or playing around with the colors would help solve the issue.. ?? (I'm not very good at that though myself .. T.T ..)

Overall, this wall is wonderful. You did a great job of portraying the ugliness of war, and the feeling of destruction is very powerful and apparent in your design. Great work~~!

I really like the colors alot, the character matches everything perfectly including the mood of the wallpaper. seeing the city being destroyed and burned behind the character seems so realistic, I like the dark parts of the wallpaper very much!!!

Wow this is really pretty in a depressing way. I love the title you gave to it as well. It seems so distant and far and yet you can see the war happening. Its what makes me love it, is that it brings distress and really brings out emotions. I really like just staring at it. I'm going to use it right now!

Great job with the manipulation of the photos. The character blended in beautifully with the background, and the whole color scheme of this wall is simply breathtaking <3 I also love the way you placed the title in the wall, it looks like it belongs. The lightning is also pretty ^^

the colors of the clouds and the lightning are what drew me into the beautiful work of art. the darkness surrounding everything is addicting. the water is very good too. the reflection is just right. i disagree with some of the people saying that the wall is disproportionate to the horizon. I think that it looks like he is on the ledge of a building. But thats just me. I love it, keep up the good work!

Surely this is a natural disaster rather than a war.

Also , why is the young man in the paper doing nothing but feeling sorry for himself... surely he has some obligation to help other people in such a time of crisis ..
