ffs monchi got another highlight. And damn became about time we had a new highlighted wall. The painting and all looks just astonishing, combined with the lightning and the composition it looks just awesome. There are just a few small things bothering me, the hair of the white ninja.samurai looks a bit blurred ore strange. maybe some to enthousiastic smudging. but still doesnt matter. And im missing some sort of highlight on the swords. must be because there is a detail overkill lately. The bamboos i find a bit to huge appearing, they look like trees but somehow its fitting. like watching the scene from frogeyes. whell have fun with ya other favs. youve owned mine

Great wallpaper you have here. Colours aren't too striking, or too dull. That's what I like about walls. And Ninja scroll.. it's pretty old... but I guess still an appropriate use of characters. I would have preferred some guys from Champloo, but I guess it's alright.

Awesome . What impressed me the most was the background, your remake of the bamboo forest. It looks wonderful, and albeit rather blurry but the details, atmosphere and depth are there. The lighting in the wallpaper is good and realistic. The characters...looks a bit weird, but heck. The whole wallpaper rocks.

it looks really nice, i like how you have painted the bg. but like blu3angel said, i also think that you should paint the character too.. the character and the bg don't blend with each other! but you have done a great job painting the bg.. i also see that the birds need just a bit of ditals.. if you are not that good at painting character, then i recomend you to paint a quick painting of the both chracter- you don't have thene need to paint detail.. really amayzing work, but it'll get really much better is you do something with the characters.. good luck and i hope to see some more amayzing work from you ^_^

When I first saw it I thought it was an entry for the monthly Vectorness contest xp but it's paint!

I really like how you chose a scene with a forest of bamboo shot at a steep angle - gives a very dramatic effect (in fact, I don't think the samurai would be quite as powerful-looking without that important angle).

Fabulous!This is one of the best wallpapers I've seen this past few days!Simply amazing and very original...somehow the characters remind me of an anime like Samurai Champloo...anyway I love the background,its just perfect and (I could say that I saw lately only blueish wall so it was about time to see another colour,and I love green)the forest looks fantastic and what to say about the characters the guy in white really stands out in the wall and the birds are a very nice touch!And wow to paint in photoshop that must be somethign really hard,you're amazing and the wall is amazing!

Even though it comes from screenshots. You have recreated it very well. Everyone needs some kind of inspiration for these things. And you got yours from the shots! Making a good wall worthy enough to be featured as a highlight is itself a tough job, and you made a wall from scratch! That is itself very commendable.

I specifically love the effects of the light rays in the forest and the doves. The graphical effects are surreal! I actually like the blurry effects, i think it adds to the feel of the wall. The grass on the ground is also done very beautifully. The lighting is done very accurately, the shadows or the dark parts are placed very appropriately. I cannot seem to find any flaws here. But i would like it if the sword of either one of the samurai would have a little light reflection effect to it.

I have not seen the anime so i do not know about the chars though. But i like their positions, they look like they are having a fierce fight.

But this is without doubt a fabulous work of art. Absolutely fantastic job! (If i had then: 8 thumbs up!)

Your talents at this are obviously very good. I'll be looking forward to seeing more walls of this type from you in the future...........

Fantastic work monchi! I heard that digital painting is quite hard, but you pull it off with sweet sucessful. It has many great aspects in the wall, especially how well you amazed us with this unqiue atmoshere. The detail of the trees are really well done and the lighting effects from the trees is a good addition. Not faving this thing is not a option. This is a must-fav for samurai scene lovers and others alike. Don't worry, I'm faving it.

Oh my god you are very good, you succeed to mix these two image i have only one complain, why didn't you have vectored the scan because if i don't make mistake, the scan you used seems like a screenshot, not exactly on your wall but the quality isn't very perfect anyway what can i say about the background, it is fantastic, and only with photoshop really, CONGRATULATION for this wall

deserving of the highlight indeed. ^^ looks awesome. as a thumbnail i knew i had to see this wall for myself. the painted look is great but the only complaint i really have is that since the background is so soft and all, the characters become kind of sharp (this isn't the bad part)--but their outsides are kind of fuzzy too yes what jumps out at me as being super crisp is the guy's black hair on his white clothes. (that means his hair just doesn't seem to fit in well) i'm certain my last sentence made little sense and had poor grammar, but yeah...=/ that's a tiny detail...but i'd have likes such a nice wall to be absolutely perfect. =P great job nonetheless!

holy f*** first ninja scroll wall! was about time to give a tribute to this classic the composition is rather rare too, no exaggeratedly artistic bg. looks all natural and just wondeful absolutely worthy of its origin this has some seriously romantic atmosphere both peace and tension btw, cant get rid of the feeling that the swords are too short... then again, they look the same in the screenshots... impressive that this can be created in such a short time all by hand love it

Capture the moment there in the Ninja Scroll with duel between Kibagami Jubei perfectly! Have to agree that was one the best fights in the movie. Showing Jubei skills that no matter what was thrown in his face, continued to fight with precision.

Those trees and atmospheric effects are awesome, nice digital painting from you as always.

The characters are the weakest element in it imo. The setting of the scene is just upstaging it.

MOTHER *BLEEP*!! That is one freaking amazing wallpaper! I try so hard to do stuff like this but I can't even do anything close to this good... But seeing all of the great art here at AP, I will continue to try more and more to see if I can even get close to making something this good. This wallpaper is such a beautiful piece of work. ...Well, you can tell that it's all been painted, which isn't a bad thing. The canopy is astounding and the doves where a nice touch, though a little over-the-top. The leaves blowing through the air add more to the image then the birds do. You've really captured the feel of a thick forest.

The swords do seem a little too short, but it's of no real concern (the foreshortening isn't represented perfectly , so it stands out in full view). The only other weakness is that the grass is a little too fine and makes the ground look fuzzy ^_^

Finally, a highlight that I can Fave!

the background is a total.. wow. O.o i really really love the trees, and how you made the sunlight shine between the trees; it's as if it can be neatly placed on a real canvas.

I took a look at the two original screens, and I have to say that that's some mad photoshopping skills you have ;). I guess that's the reason why it's blurred, but hey, no one can be perfect, especially working with screens from such an old anime (maybe I should watch it). Great work cutting out the old chars and replacing it with Jubei and Utsutsu, I couldn't tell that they weren't originally in that forest. Again, my main issue with this wall is, as many people before have stated, it's kinda blurry. But, given the quality of the animation, making it any sharper would diminish the quality of this piece.

Still, it's very good and I like the concept. Having two samurais battling it out in the middle of a bamboo forest with doves flying overhead and sunlight filtering through the foliage above is very awesome. Hmm, maybe it's just me, but I feel like the picture chosen for the two samurais could've been better, like more dynamic and not as static. There just doesn't feel like there's enough life in that picture, not enough action. But it's just me, and it's just fine as a still life piece. Grats.

Alright! Bout time we had ourselves a new highlighted wall. And this wall really deserves. Love the digital painting effect and how it gives an overall soft tone to the wall which, for me, gives a contrast to the characters who are trying to kill eachother. I like the lighting and how it makes the characters the main focus of the wall and it also adds a little suspense. I do have some minor problems though, like the bluriness of the white samurai, the lack of gleam as the light falls on the swords. The size of the bamboo is fine with me and creates an interesting perspective. Overall, your hard work really paid off. Great job. +Fav

I haven't been viewing walls lately but this piece definitely catches my eye. It truly deserves the highlight. I think the background is just beautiful and perfect! I hate to use perfect but I don't find anything wrong with the background. The lighting and shadow in this wallpaper is just awesome. This is just me, but I do think the characters are a bit too sharp or just something about them that doesn't make them fit as solid as the should into the background. It could be because some parts of the characters are sharp while other parts are smudgy/blurry. That's just me being picky though. I still love this wallpaper regardless. The fact that you made this wallpaper from scratch gets you a million points! Yay for white doves! Of course, it's going straight to my favorites. Great job!

Being an artist I've never really promoted copying/tracing when it comes to painting. I thought it sort of lost the point or being called an original piece. However, it still a nice concept and even if you did copy it's obvious you put a lot of time into it. Good job.

Wow ! When I saw that this wall was Highlighted, I just wanted to see it to make my own opinion. I didn't think that it could be painting by you. Above all when I saw the originals screenshots which are in a really bad quality. I'm totally amazed by this wallpaper because it's wonderful. Moreover, even if it's a fight scene, I can guess a peaceful atmosphere (certainly because of the bamboos and the lights on the forest. It's the first time I see a wallpaper like that, we can say so much things about it. It's sincerely a great job. I definitely like it, and I fav it !

Wow, I am really impressed by the soft details throughout. You did a great job! The piece on the whole *feels* like a forest. It almost has a venetian baroque feel to it, which is the style I have always felt best captures tree shadows. So congratulations on capturing that part of nature!

I have two different lines of thinking concerning this wall, though.

1) Possibly the forest is a bit *too* soft for the piece. I mean, they're fighting to the death. That's scary and intense and quick. And the forest has a soft, dreamy, take a nap sort of feel. On the whole, it conveys the wrong emotion for what's actually going on.

On the other hand....

2) Possibly you were juxtaposing the softness of the forest against the hard, crisp lines of the fighters, which makes sense. Just because the samurai are fighting to the death, doesn't mean the world is coming to an end. Quite contrary, the world will just go on spinning, not even paying attention to the fact that someone will die shortly. And nature understands that death is just another step in the life cycle, and so why would it be affected by someone's disagreement?

Anyway, I wasn't sure what you were going for, but those were the two lines of thought that went through my head. I really do like this piece a lot. Great job! And please, continue making more! Good luck with your contest, wedding, and in finding a job that will challenge you in an enjoyable way!

this looks pretty awesome. from faraway the samurai in the white looks kinda like jin from samurai champloo... lol to me it does. but anyway... the lighting in the trees looks realistic... you did a nice job. keep it up.

i'm really amazed about how the technique of digital painting can deliver. By comparing the wallpaper and the reference ss, the difference was obvious. Im and completely obsessed with the bamboo forest now lol.

Loved this movie / series. The vibrant colors help focus my attention on the action as well as the lighting and the leaves. I really like the sideways shadow that’s cast through the trees. Great wall. A+

This wallpaper is really amazing! I have the feeling that it's right in the middle of the battle, like there's suspense conveyed through it. The light shining through the trees is a nice artistic touch, it makes it seem very real ^^

Pretty impressive, though I think that the characters are a bit too blurred. You'd get a real nice contrast if they were sharper and it would have made them look like they were the focus of the wall (more than now, that is).

Very impressive indeed. I like the setting and the painting is well done. But as shinn mentioned, it's too blurry for my tastes or, how should I put this, I don't see enough 'edges' or 'defined borders', or perhaps a little bit more contrast in the BG.

Also the hair of the 'white' samurai seems different x_x somehow...

But the idea of putting the doves in there scattering away is a nice idea (x_x but do they actually exist in a bamboo forrest?) i also like the idea with the falling leaves (leafs? i dunno XP), it creates that certain atmosphere.

Hmm I give this an 5.0/6.0 (meaning very good) just for the fact that this was actually PAINTED...all of it.

Looking forward to more of your work if you get some spare time ;D

Great wallpaper you have here. colors aren't too striking, or too dull. That's what I like about walls. And Ninja scroll.. it's pretty old... but I guess still an appropriate use of characters. I would have preferred some guys from Champloo, but I guess it's alright.

This is just beautiful! Did you paint the forest completely yourself? It's incredible. The composition is very nice also, although I might have put the characters a little more off-center for a more dynamic look -- but on the other hand the slanting light helps with that, and the contrast between the unmoving peace of the scene and the fighting works very well. So, well done.

This is so serene....I've always liked wallpapers that didn't have any overexaggerated colors and writing. This is simple and beautiful. It's a little blurry and it could be clearer, but A++.

Awesome. What impressed me the most was the background, your remake of the bamboo forest. It looks wonderful, and albeit rather blurry but the details, atmosphere and depth are there. The lighting in the wallpaper is good and realistic. The characters...looks a bit weird, but heck. The whole wallpaper rocks. Good job on this one.

This is absolutely beautiful, I agree with many others when I say that the lighting effects highlight the focus of the art. Just seeing this wallpaper has roused my interest in Ninja Scroll (which I had never heard of, I'm new to all this for the most part), and I will definitely go and watch it. This is hard to criticize. Let's see... If I had to complain, it'd be about the TINIEST thing: the trees and the grass. It looks like the trees are actually part of the grass, because it looks merged. But that's something I don't even care about, so this is great.

There are very few Ninja Scroll wallpapers out there, so when I saw this one, I was quite amazed and pleased. The paint effect really adds originality to your work. The forest truly looks awe-inspiring, with the foreground and background done perfectly. The birds were a nice touch too, but they could've used a little more detail (beaks, eyes, feathers, etc). The only gripe I have is the characters in the middle. They seem to lack the same paint effect as the trees and leaves. Jubei almost appears too flat, like he's a cardboard cut-out. But as a whole, the wallpaper is truly an excellent portrayal of Ninja Scroll.

Amazing! At first I thought it was a Samurai Champloo wallpaper, since a similar fight occurs in episode 2 of that series. Incredible work. The characters look very realistic...and BEST of all, you definitely didn't skimp on the background/foreground. A definite favorite.

All around I feel that this was very well done. The painting technique has been perfected into an absolute splendor. Though I think the edges around the white character are a little blurred, it's hard to notice when you're too busy gapping at the sheer talent that has been embodied in this wallpaper. You've done an excellent job. =)

I love this wallpaper, to take two separate images and combine them into a more superior image is remarkable, however being new and not the biggest computer geek in the whole world where are the original art/concept pieces?
