An 'organic' wall of Hinoto. I say 'organic' because a lot of the tenancy nowadays on AP and other such communities these days is to vector. As someone who's been vectoring for many years, vectoring is great when you want that stylized clean look, and it can do things to a scan that you can't normally do, a lot of the time. But a while ago I noticed that a lot of people were starting to vector for the sake of vectoring- when the same wall would actually have been better by exposing the original art. Clean lines has its uses, but people seem unable to tell when which is more appropriate; the mechanical vector path, or the simple beauty of the organic, drawn line. Vector for the sake of vector, with no creativity and originality is probably only useful as practice. I'm not saying I make incredible walls, but I feel that the overall quality of AP walls has fallen from what it was originally. When I see people upload walls that are carbon copies of scans, but vectored, well, what is the point of that? If its vectored well, its proof of technical skill, but not proof of intelligent design on the parof the waller. Anyone can learn a program, the difference lies in what you do with it.
Well, thats very little about this particular wall, since its not the ultimate example of organic lines or anything (I just wanted to get that first part out there on AP). As far as this wall goes, well, its obviously very simple in end result. The image of Hinoto comes from a page in the manga... a double pager I edited a long time ago. The chapter which this comes from has many gorgeous pictures of Hinoto as she's about to be corrupted by her other half, and after I finished sewing the two pages together in Photoshop I decided to also edit it in such a way that it was coming out of whiteness, so that I could later use it in a wall. Played with colors a bit... and added the red to make her pop, as Hinoto's character design by CLAMP is made to show how red pops in the first place. Added the damask in the background to make it more interesting... I was worried if it were blank it would be too boring for here. There is a version with text I prefer here http://flobberworm.com/flobberworm/whitedeath2.jpg The spacing of the bird and the text might seem weird at first but its to work with the Start bar in Windows.

I agree with what you said about the vectors. I have to admit that I have been guilty of just vectoring a scan and not adding much else recently. Although I've seen a lot worse, lol.
Anyway, the wallpaper XD...
Erm, well you want to refrain from vectoring it, but with this type of wallpaper, you can't really get away without doing so. Minimalist wallpapers like this one have to be simple. And simple, in my mind, also means clean. Just my opinion I know, but I think a vector would really improve it. You've already demonstrated the creative capabilities, show us technical skills :P
Anyway, just my vector-biased opinion :P. Nice work - keep it up

This wallpaper is beautiful ^_^ I love how you did this one, and I'm glad you didn't vectored it. Well I've seen a lot of great vectored wallpapers here on AP (and I really wish I have the technical abilities to vector like that too), but I agree on what you said about how people just copy the scan by vectoring. My opinions aside, like I said this organic wall is really nice. The simple textured background adds... well this is going to sound weird, but I think the the background gives this wall an unique nuance.

Ooh, Hinoto is breaking out of the screen beautifully. The red is really poppy (really nice, lol). It's nice to see detailed lineart!
I just think that she's too small up there, but that may just be my preferences, because I really like big/up close pictures.

Interesting wall,really interesting,the background is quite empty but it doesn't seem like that,the focus is on the character and the red parts are really a nice touch!I like it tough it's not usually like my type,like walls more filled,lol,but anyway great skills!

This is a very beautiful simplistic wallpaper. I don't really like Hinoto all that much, but you did a very nice job featuring her in a wall. Also, plus because this is the first X wallpaper in a while. Nice job! *adds to favorites*

I really like the placement of Hinoto and the background pattern! I'm not really digging the red for some reason, though, and I'm not sure why. Maybe it just looks too rich in comparison with the other elements?
In any case, I have to agree with Umboody about the vector thing. In a simple wallpaper, I generally look for scans that have been at least cleaned (if not completely vectored). But I also agree that the rage of vectoring just to vector is kind of silly. Most of the time when I vector something it's 'cos the original image quality was low or covered in text :'D
In any case this is really neat!

Very simple wallpaper and I like that. Im not sure about the position of the character on the paper but none the less I still like it. I like the nice touches of red that you have put on this paper as well. Will be using it in the future. Keep up the great work!
