But there's quite a problem with the perspective. While your buildings look fine the ground does not, same goes for the water ripples. What I mean is that there should be an angle between his legs and, let's say, the crack in the ground next to him.

O_O and a tutorial to go with it. I salute you! The only thing I'll moan about is the focusing of the wallpaper.

I've tried this effect before whilst taking photos out in the rain and I've always found that the ground is quite blurred because the focus is on what's reflected in the puddle.

For me the detail on the ground is a bit too sharp for this kind of effect. But other than that, it's a simply superb wallpaper and well worthy of one of my +favs. Enjoy, and hope to see more of your works real soon! Just wish I could add 2 favs because there are two of you after all...

As for the wallpaper , I must agree with Dioma . The perspective is really akward and wrong , and the water looks and reflects the scenery like it was glass or something. Also the the ground : you say you didnt use textures,but I can see a "crack" brush being used , also some "over-burned" parts. And I would prefer the ground not "dirt/gravel" but cement .He is in the city in front of some scryscrapers,where did he found dirt there? despite all that I like your ripple effects and the rain. overall good job.

Well, absolutely another great wallpaper by Anna. XD What I mostly like is that it is not purely realistic; it seems to me that it is a "fusion" of many pictures and ideas.

The fact that the angle is not as it should be to realistically reflect the man, makes it even better. The city also seems truly melancholic. Despite the fact that there are so many buildings, the is lack of "sound" except the raindrops, which are great as well. The clouds perfectly fit with the city, as well as the mud; mud may also highlights the melancholy, as it symbolizes once again the lack of other people there.

The wallpaper is complicated and simplistic at the same time. TRULY great job! (n_n)-b(9+_+)

you didn't have to remind me about your wall, because i'd have to be completely blind to miss your wall on the front page xD it's so pretty! well, you already know about the puddle issue. now that i think on it some more, the puddle also has a really complex shape, which doesn't happen that often with water. and another little thing: the big cracks in the ground makes me think i'm looking straight down. yet when i see akane's feet, i know i can't be. so it is a bit awkward.

Wow, that's so beautiful. Everything down from the main character to the buildings and dirt have so many details that make this wall look so wonderful. The rain's also a nice touch since it also adds to the character's melancholy disposition and makes the puddle look more like water. Love it! +fav

This is a beautiful wallpaper. However, the water doesn't look like it blend into the dirt ground as much as it should. The shadows around it makes it "pop-out" instead of being "on" the ground. It's a puddle, but it looks like glass. Other than that, I really love the water ripples and effects. You did a great job re-painting the scan, that's my favorite part of this wallpaper is the scan, and the buildings, too. This wallpaper has a sad and empty feeling to it, so great work in achieving the concept!

what can i say... i love the way you painted the guy.. and the buildings.. and also i can't forget to mention the sky... mmm i wouldn't hear to that complain about the perspective, cause i think it's fine, and some people are hard commenting.. i mean... this is a pretty difficult wallpaper to make!!... that shows how much you have improved, i would go crazy if i had tryed to do such a hard perspective!!!.. reflections and odd angles always make a great challenge for an artist--but you did an exceptional job! only thing is, i would've added a little bit more grays at the edges to make the water look more muddy and look more like it's water instead of a solid surface.

I would firstly say, it's quite rare to see a wallpaper that is vertically reversed, and it's even rarer to see one that incorporates the details contained so vividly.

Secondly, the character design is well executed. His facial expression ties in perfectly with the words (which I must say are perfectly positioned) and the cityscape / fog below the buildings.

Overall, well done.

The perspective seems off a bit for me but who cares, it looks delicious.

I just can't see how you can't love this wallpaper. Especially seeing the extensive amount of artistic talent and work that went into it, its truly amazing. I love the perspective - seemingly upside-down, or rather looking up, at first glance, but it's really a reflection in a puddle. Good effect.

My only complaint is the brown surrounding the "puddle" - it's a bit plain and oddly cracked. I'm not exactly sure what kind of surface it is.

Well, it's a good wallpaper, indeed. Although I hope you won't mind it if I point out a few issues (that could you help you improve yourself next times) that I spotted here and there:

• First thing that I noticed was that the buildings's perspective felt slightly off, especially the one the bottom left. Composition-wise I also feel that there are too few buildings, or rather, the way you placed them feels a bit awkward (probably too much spacing between each of them). I would have probably grouped them on a side or on a corner, and left the other side empty for the sky, to give a better idea of the perspective and have a more organized and ordinated composition.

• Second thing, the colours you used for both buildings and soil. The ground colours are too uniform, and look too saturated, which contrasts in a negative way with the puddle of water. So you either darken the puddle, or you colour the soil with a brighter hue of brown (brown alone by the way doesn't feel exactly like a good colour. Some highlights of blue on it would help the soil blend better and look more realistic). As for the buildings' colour, that colour feels too unnatural as well. Again it's probably because they look too uniform from top to bottom, it's as if they weren't influenced at all by sky and by it's lighting. Their overall lighting and shading still feels a bit too flat, and in fact it's almost impossible to tell where the source (or sources) of light come from. Add the fact that the buildings lack some details (or rather than details they look too "squary") and they do feel a bit odd.

• The texture that you painted on the soil is too unfirom, again. And biggest mistake of all, you painted it everywhere on it. Remember any kind of texture on most of the surfaces or objects will only show differently depending on how close the object is, and most important it will only show on the brighter parts of the object. Painting texture and making it clearly visible even in the darker parts of the soil makes it look too flat. Also, since the soil is actually the foreground element, rather than painting such a grainy texture, it could have simply sufficed to directly paint details rather than the texture. There are a lot of examples at AP scan galleries that you can look up to as reference.

And that's it. You did a good job colouring the character, and the clouds as well (I see aquasixio's tutorial there though, hehe). It's indeed a good display of effort, you just have to pay more attention at lighting, shading, proper texturing (and mind you textures are not always necessary as long as you can paint details) and how the colours and materials are affected by these elements. Perspective and composition issues are not really a problem if you try to spend more time analyzing your work next time. :)

A unique perspective for a wallpaper that definitely is something special, not only is it flipped, the buildings gave focus, specialty all over the wallpaper without damaging the quality that is the character focus itself. Plus, compared with any wallpaper I have seen thus far, this is one daring way to wall upside down. Just brilliant.

It is quite amazing that you have been improved so much and that is something i realise each time i see a new piece (from both of you). I am really sorry for not being around lately as i was either busy or on vacations (through the last week). What can i say about the piece?! I do find the main concept very good. "Melancholy" actually fits as a title... I do like the buildings and the redrawn scan. It must have taken you a lot of time xD, what is a bit weird is the perspective of the character IMO, but maybe this is because of the position of the buildings. I love the turn out of the ground but it is actually weird to find dirt in the city instead of the common cement (hehe). Most of all i like the ripples and the rain effect, nice thought of yours ^^

Hmmm... Firstly I apologize for being harsh. I do think that the building surrounding the puddle is a bit unrealistic. But then again it may be me... Second would be the puddle not giving off colour and as usual, the lighting by the sun and shadow made to a real puddle. I would think that it will give a much deeper feeling to the wall... I actually liked the fact that near to the end of the puddle during the stage, the puddle water is slightly darker (because of the cloud), I do think it gives a more realistic view of a puddle... Other than that I loved the rippling effect and the rain drops. Great recolouring too. Loved the clouds. The soil though(comparing to the scan), seems to have this depth to the water, which I guess brings up the second point, which is a puddle of water is not 100% like a mirror, but then again it's near to impossible to do that and I'm not able to do that either... Other than that, a really great work! It goes to my fav ^^ Would be even better for me if those things are there though! I'm sorry if I missed anything out of the whole challenge.

This is what I call a scenic wallpaper! I love it! It really deserves the 3 'S'. The painting-coloring and those clear water-parts is amazing. I like when people mix painting and vector. It gives a good contrast.

I have no idea how you managed the puddle but it's an amazing effect! The perspective is exactly as it should be if your reflection was bouncing off of water in the real world (at least I think so). Awesome job man!

It's a great idea. I love how you colored the background. However, after looking at it a while it started to make me dizzy, probably because of the perspective that I am not use to.

However, it is a great wallpaper and that two weeks worth of time was worth it.

The reflection looks really cool and the textures and coloring are well done. The water might be more realistic if you could see some of the ground through it, but the 100% reflection is alright since it is the focus of the scene.

This wallpaper realy is in a class of it's own solely because of it's unique style and the portrayal of it's theme. the cryptic line:There is no such thing as happiness only lighter shades of melancholy also helps to bring out the emotions of the troubled protaganist in the wallpaper. Really cool and keep it up!

It's funny; like de ja vu funny--my friend was sitting by the fountain right outside of NY City Hall today and emailed me this picture she took of a puddle, today. Before that, I would've said that this picture is too "perfect"--where's the distortion over the character? Shouldn't there be more artifacts in the water? Dirt, maybe? Leaves? But in her picture, it was THIS clear. I mean, you could see a perfect reflection of the sky scrappers in this puddle! Well, what I mean to say is that your wall is really, truly, absolutely perfect the way it was. You could've bogged it down with "more details," but you didn't, and I think that's a great choice! Good work =) I look forward to seeing more of your work!

wow, I must say, I'm impressed. I love your concept, I don't think it's overdone, which is a pet-peeve of mine. All around, good job, although I will say, it looks like the ground is covering the water rather than the water covering the ground, but even that gives it an interesting dimension.

Ok, I'm going to admit that this isn't the kind of wallpaper that I usually download, but it was just so awesome that I had to have it. I am crazy about the way that everything is reflected in a pool of water, the way that the pool is fragmented around the edges. I love the raindrops still falling and the way the water/reflection ripple where drops hit is. This is a truly, truly awesome wallpaper! Definitive fave!

I often checked Anime wallpapers for longest time and there weren't much Anime wallpapers that I liked and often be not perfect match with my desktop due to my bigger monitor so I relyed on non-Anime wallpapers for long time before I started visited to this site for first time. This was one of first anime wallpapers that I had checked and now it could be one of best Anime wallpapers that I had ever seen. Wow... Fantastic work! I like your colouring and the ripple effects of the rain. As mentioned above, the puddle seems too sharply "outlined" so that it resembles a hard reflective surface instead of water. Further it is difficult to distinguish whether or not the there is a shadow around the puddle or if it's just damper and hence darker dirt. The colour of the ground across more as fertile soil than "soggy dirt in a run down city or back-alley". Perhaps move towards a more grey-ish colour than brown? Overall, great effort. I look forward to more of your walls in the future.
