The idea to this wallpaper came to me because of the September Competition of the Scenic Group. The theme for this competition is to made a Science Fiction Wallpaper.
Well, I first thought about a Bubblegum Crisis wallpaper but by browsing the scans at Minitokyo.net and Animepaper.net I found this wonderful scan: http://www.animepaper.net/gallery/scans/Xenosaga/item27887/
After finding the right scan I thought about the background. Well, because of the Sci-Fi theme I decided to make a star/galaxy background. The actual background is a composition of different things. First I made my own starry sky background by using a brush I found at deviantart. Can't exactly remember who uploaded it because I have it since a long time. After making the stars I used a stock photo for the nebula things. So the background was completed like it is now.
The next thing was to create the planet at the back of Shion and Kos-Mos. I used this tutorial: http://gallery.artofgregmartin.com/tuts_arts/making_a_planet.htmlbut keep the texture of the planet. I tried with texture but it looked to 3D-like and didn't match with the style of the rest of the wallpaper.
After that I extracted and cleaned the scan of Shion and Kos-Mos. I added a light glow of blue around the hair of Kos-Mos and leave the rest of the scan blank. I added a lightening effect so that the head of the scan is more brighter as the rest. That because of the glow which comes from the Zohar.
Last but not least I took this scan of the Zohar: http://www.animepaper.net/gallery/scans/Xenosaga/item126374/ and rebuilt the missing part at the left site of it. I placed it in the same angle like the hand of Kos-Mos so that it looks like she is holding it. In the end I added the light effects so that it looks like the Zohar is ermerging light. Added some sparkles from a brush I also found at deviantart.
Well, that's the hole story behind this wallpaper. Took me around one week to create it. I had to change some things but thanks to my friends I finally ended with this.

Pretty nice wall, I love the scan you used! :D Nice color concept, the blue sky matches a galaxy theme very well. Klasse wallpaper, mach weiter so ^__^ (übrigens sind die übergänge des lichtes zum bg manchmal ziemlich abrupt... aber egal xD)

Interesting wallpaper, there are a lot of things to look at and there are so many stars! xD
Manche Strahlen sehen irgendwie abgeschnitten aus, als ob sie vorher in einem Kasten gewesen wären. Ich würde die Farben vom HG etwas ändern, vielleicht etwas rot/orange Töne reinbringen, damit alles nicht zu kalt aussieht. Aber ansonster, ein schönes wallpaper. :3

Oh... This Wallpaper is Cool and Wonderful. It's Great. Various Effects, Shadows and Blendings in Single-Tone Colors are Very Attractive. Bright Light in Two Starrings' Hands are Impressive and Strong in This Wallpaper. Thanks for Your Good Work.

REallY nice wallpaper ^^ I really like it, the colours are soft yet appealing to the eyes, and the way you merged the characters with that particular background looks just great :D
The only thing maybe (in my opinion ;) ) that you could've worked a bit more is probably blurring it a bit more on the edges of the characters (not the hair nor bottom section) to the background, to make it appear as if they were part of it. But apart from that really nice wallpaper there ;)

I do like this wall, but I've not had a chance to check out Xeno yet! My list is too long as it is, but I'll see what I can do. I love the universe in there, and the embrace makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

i've a friend who got me watching Xenosaga...and you've done this right! the colours, the characters...are a perfect match ^_^ makes me want to go back n watch them all over again.

Oh, please ^_^'' I didn't really do much, it's thanks to you that this wall is what it is. I have to say that the wall really improved from the last time I saw it. Now the legs looks more natural faded that way in the planet's shadow. Nice work and good luck for the competition ;)

A great Wallpaper, I like this walls with moon or star in background and the SciFi theme. If only the definition were higher it would simply be perfect...

thisw is very nice wall of Xenosaga. the anime show is good and the games are really good. the color is good and the back ground is very nice. i like it one of the best i have seen.

Because the one that it was necessary to give two strong impressions like the monolith of the background and the character, etc. that were forward did fight, it was felt that the entire impression had thinned. The color has thinned too much though it is good that there is forward a character. The nature like the shine too much does the monolith of the background.
Blue space is very beautiful.

This is another fantastic Xenosaga wallpaper. I have seen the original piece, and yours definitely changes the mood into one of serenity as you have titled it. The removal of color further adds to the effect too. Great job on this piece!

Woah...NICE. I love high quality background wallpapers. Usually, I like pictures that are usually high quality and from the original artist, back ground and all, but here, it's so nice that I don't complain. I hate wallpapers without any actual creative matching background behind. I mean, you know those graphic backgrounds with the patterns that have nothing to do with anything but color? Arg, no creativity. Great work on this one though, it's so ....beautiful.
