The original design started out as a playmat design. While tweaking for the playmat I decided the core elements would make a good wallpaper. Theme is simple with a cool color scheme and the light blue background to make it more of a neutral style wallpaper. Text was added to bring the weight down towards the bottom more, as it would feel too top heavy without it. The idea behind the simple theme is to put less distraction from the artwork and allow the center of attention to be Dark Magician Girl and have a clean looking wallpaper with emphasis on just her. Both pieces of artwork are scans from the AnimePaper scan section, the background manga image was uploaded by Nasiki, and the main art piece was from a scan uploaded by kuladiamond. I spent around 8 hours on the layout of the playmat, and about one converting it to a wallpaper. I spend around 1 hour on clipping and touch up on the main Dark Magician Girl artwork focal point.

I say you direct, I don't like wallpaper with a "ghosting" effect. Means a different (or sometime same) version with a character is serving as a background. (blended or back-white) Also don't understand why she is cropped (cutting down just a little bit isn't a very smart solution, make her full of cut her at least in half.)

And the font is a pretty common one, almost looks like Viner Hand to me. There are a lot of magician style fonts, what should look better there.

PS. you made the whole comotion on forum for this wall? If you would use that time for walling you could done it a lot better. See you.

I agree with Aki about not liking walls with the "ghosting effect". Also, i would like to point out the blurriness of the main character. It strains the eyes far too much, especially when it is full-viewed. Also, adding nice textures would have worked better than just a plain blue color background. I really like Dark Magician Girl, but i feel this wall could have had some extra work added to it.

The the ghosting is usually a personal preference thing, and as the title suggests, it's a SIMPLE wallpaper. As for the comment about blurriness, she's smoother over to give a soft paint artistic feel. Most people expect all anime to be sharp vector, but this just has a smooth feel to it, it all really depends on what you want. The reason I went with the solid blue background was because I feel in recent years that Photoshop filters have been overused. I think one random filter as the background is tacky, and if I had wished for a better background I would have spent more hours on that than just one filter to "spice things up."

As for the font, yes there are plenty of "magician" fonts out there, but they really wouldn't match the "feel" of the wallpaper. Fonts really come down to personal preference and style.

Again, I'm not quite sure what you were expecting from a wallpaper with "simple" in the title...this was made during my break times at work, and was just something "fun" to work on. Perhaps one weekend I'll sit down and actually spend around 8 hours making a nicer wallpaper, although it won't be yugioh, as the show style, and limited artwork hurt a lot when it comes to creativity and resolution size.
