opinions about Elfen Lied

I thought it was a great anime. Not one of my favorites, but still a great anime. It had a great plot, great artwork, great soundtrack, great character interactions... there's a lot that was really good in it. There were a few confusing parts, and there were parts of the manga that were removed, so it's not perfect. Then again, no anime is perfect.

Your First Anime?

Pokemon was my first anime, and I regret to say that I liked it when I was younger. I watched it until it got into the second region (Jhoto, was it?) I eventually just got bored of it, and stopped watching it. My second anime was Digimon. I liked it pretty well too, and I watched it a lot until halfway through the third season. It just stopped airing here. :-/ My third series was Card Captors, the dub of Cardcaptor Sakura. Eh, I liked it at the time, but I seriously wonder how. When I think about it, it was such an awful dub, and half of it didn't make sense because of all of the switching around they did. Oh well... those are my first three series.

HARDEST GAMES EVER

Contra... any of them. First of all, take an NES side-scrolling shooter game. Remember that this was back when all games were actually hard. Not the easy stuff most of us are used to these days. :P Then you make the game instant kill. No health bar, no body armor. Make it fairly long, with gigantic bosses that you have to be both quick to react and be able to think our how to take them down. Then think about how Contra was the game that invented cheat codes. Seriously, Contra and SuperC were pretty much impossible to beat without cheat codes. XD

What anime made you cry?

I've never actually cried watching any anime or reading any manga, but I have come close several times. I almost cried after watching Saikano, Kanon, Air, and the scene where Hughes was buried in the FMA manga. I'm sure there's a few more, but those are the main things that I can think of. I dunno... anime just has never been able to fully make me cry... at least not yet. =P

An inquiry about Zelda

I really enjoyed Twilight Princess, but I do really like the Zelda series. Whether Twilight Princess is my favorite game ever or not is hard to say at the moment. It was definitely amazing, sporting some of the best bosses, dungeon design, and plot elements in the entire series. The game was really fun, but it did have some faults to it. It was really easy, unfortunately, and the end of the game felt a bit rushed. Still, it's great... it's just been too soon for me to judge whether or not it's my favorite game at the moment. ;)

What do you HATE the most about anime?

There's nothing that I really hate about anime. For one, hate is a strong word, and if I truly hated something about anime, then I wouldn't watch it. =P Are there some minor annoyances in anime? Yes, I'll list several annoying things to me.

1. Overused characters - Face it, there's a lot of characters you see a lot. They might be slightly different, but there's still a lot of cliched characters. You have the character who seems strong on the outside, but inside is really weak, usually caused by some tragic event. You have the shy girl who is in love with the main male character, but generally never gets them. You have the character who is always upset easily and always causes trouble, but in the end, you find that they're hiding some deep inner pain. There's a ton more that I could list, but I don't want to rant. =P

2. Perfect characters - Most anime/manga has perfect characters. Does that mean you'll like them? No. It just means that the characters themselves really have no down points... it's just up to you to come up with a personal opinion about whether you like them or not. Few anime/mangas have characters who are not one dimensional. The best example of non-perfect characters that I can think of would be Saikano, where you oftentimes will sympathize, like, and hate each of the characters at the same time.

3. Blatant fan service - I personally don't really hate fan service, but what I don't like is pointless and stupid fan service. If it can work into the plot and make sense, fine. If not, I would rather it doesn't have it in there. Something this overlaps with is sex scenes and extreme violence. Some anime, and manga especially, seem to have sex scenes or extreme amounts of violence and blood for no reason. They have a sex scene just to have a sex scene. They have blood and gore just to have blood and gore. I have two personal rules for anime and manga when it concerns sex and violence.

-- 1. It has to be tasteful. This concerns sex mostly. Don't have any "kinks." I'm not going to go any further in this to avoid getting graphic. =P -- 2. It has to be reasonable. If you can understand why the two characters are having sex, or why there's a ton of violence, then it's okay. As far as sex scenes go, one main example of a series breaking this rule would be a series called "Shojo Sect". I only read about half of the first volumn, because it turned out that all the students at this "girls only" school had sex with each other for no reason at all. I'm sorry, but I just don't see that happening in real life.

Anyway, I guess this did turn into a rant... sorry. I hope I didn't say anything against the rules either.

No, I don't smoke, and I'm glad I don't. I abhor it when people smoke around me, I just don't want to be around it. But, my dad smokes, and so does the rest of my relatives on his side of the family. It's one of the several reasons why I try to stay in my room often. =P

Math,Physics and Chemistry

First of all, I'm really good at math, and at times, I can enjoy it. There's nothing like finally solving a math problem that took you forever to do. There's also the awesome feeling when you're like "Oh, I get it now!" when you're just now understanding a more complex part of math like trigonometric equations. I also plan to get a career in programming, which is primarily math. As far as chemistry goes, doing experiments is fun, but everything else is just "meh." I always enjoyed doing labs in Chemistry class, but everything else was rather boring. Now, Physics... some parts are boring, and other parts are really interesting. Calculating the distance of projectiles was a bit boring (mostly because we covered the same thing over and over again), but when we got to space, and theories like the String Theory, it got really interesting. Got to love hearing about interesting theories about the creation of the universe. =P

Does age really matter?

Well, I do prefer girls who are at least slightly around my age. Maybe 5 years older or younger than me, like someone else here said. I just... can't picture myself with someone extremely older or younger than me. *shrugs* That being said, I don't think age itself really matters in relationships. The only thing that matters is if the two people can really connect to each other and have similar interests, and compatible personalities. But, age can have a factor in that stuff. A twenty-year-old woman and a sixty-year-old man won't generally have similar interests and compatible personalities. Can it happen? Yes, but I don't think that it generally happens that often.

My room generally stays rather dirty. I do my best to keep it clean, but generally because of school, it tends to get messy rather quickly... mostly with clothes. I seriously need to get rid of my extra clothes, they just get in the way. =P But, anyway, my room does get rather bad, but once it gets to a point, I'll clean it up, and it'll stay clean for several months and start drifting back to being messy again. =P

FMA, Naruto Or InuYasha?

Do note that I haven't seen a lot of either InuYasha or Naruto. Well, not much of the anime, I've read more of the manga, though. Still, I prefer Fullmetal Alchemist over the other two. The Naruto anime was just... annoying to me, and a bit boring. The manga was a lot better, but still, it didn't quite live up to FMA. Again, InuYasha wasn't bad, but it wasn't fantastic either. I thought it was kind of repetitive and boring. FMA just a much deeper, more involving story, particularly the manga. ;)

Well, I have to admit that it can get boring being off school for a long period of time, but as for one day of being sick... no, I don't miss school. But, that still doesn't mean that I like getting off school for being sick. In fact, I really dislike it because of having to make up work. That really stinks. >.o

I don't keep it too clean, but I try to keep it from getting too dirty. If it gets too bad, then I'll spend a day or so cleaning it. After cleaning it, I try and keep it tidy for a while before giving up and letting it get dirty again until I have to clean it up again. XD I never do seem to learn. XP

Twilight Princess

I have the game on Gamecube, and I have to say that the game is AMAZING. The graphics are great for a Gamecube game, and keep in mind that on Wii, the graphics of Twilight Princess just show the beginning of the Wii's graphical capabilities. The dungeon design is great and varied, and the overworld is vast and expansive, with a lot of small details in it. The puzzles can be challenging and frustrating, and there's a few enemies which are just cool to fight (darknuts, anyone?). Also, the story is probably the best in a Zelda game yet, with plenty of characterization and background story. The major downsides of the game? Well, some areas simply feel devoid of enemies, and the bosses are really easy. Well, until you get later on in the game. Some of the later bosses get to about the level they should be. Still, Twilight Princess is one of -- if not THE -- best Zelda games. Could it have been better? Yes, but it's still a lot of fun. I definitely recommend Twilight Princess to anyone who owns a GCN or Wii.

Is the Wii even int he competition?

Being a pretty big Nintendo fan, I have to say something. =P

However, before I start, I want to say something about graphics. The Wii is somewhere between 2 to 3 times as powerful as the Gamecube. When you look at a game like Twilight Princess which runs off of the Gamecube, you can tell that the Wii is capable of pulling of some really good looking graphics. However, the Wii won't be able to pull off HD quality graphics. HD quality is actually where a good deal of the processing power in the XBox 360 and PS3 is going toward. What I'm trying to say is that the Wii will be able to pull off some impressive visuals once the system is put to full use. Unfortunately, because the Wii isn't as powerful as the other two, many developers have slacked off saying something like "Well, we can't get PS3 or X360 graphics, so we might as well not even try." If you look at games like Medal of Honor and Farcry for Wii, those games could (and did) look better on the XBox and Gamecube, which are less powerful than the Wii. Hopefully developers will snap out of this trend.

Anyway, as far as the Wii goes, I think it will bring Nintendo back up quite a bit. Since it's launch, the Wii has already sold over a million units, and it pretty much sells out each day Wiis are stocked in stores. So, I don't think anyone can deny that the Wii is going to be a success. Whether it will take the market is another story. Personally, I think this console race will be closer than the last one, where the PS2 sold more than both of the XBox and GCN combined. I think the Wii will sell more than the Gamecube, and I think it'll really bring back some lost ground. Still, I don't think it's quite enough to outsell the others. Nintendo has some great games on the way: Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Wario Ware Smooth Moves, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Fire Emblem, as well as an inevitable Mario Kart and Wii-exclusive Zelda game. Nintendo also has had a much stronger 3rd party backing than the Gamecube had in its later years. Ubisoft supported the launch well, and it seems like Ubisoft will be continuing support. There's also the inevitable support of EA. Still, compared to the PS3 and X360, that's pretty lackluster 3rd party support. I believe that if Nintendo wants to pull the race closer (and perhaps pass the other consoles), it will have to rally in more 3rd party support. If Nintendo doesn't do that soon, then the Wii is most likely doomed to live in the shadows of the X360 and PS3.

American ruins Asian

Of course American companies and businesses "Americanize" things. That's the only way the general public will accept things from other cultures. Many people find original Asian food appalling; therefore, many won't try out other foods from other cultures. So, companies "Americanize" things to make them more fitting into the American society. Whether you like it or not is personal opinion. Sticking with the subject of food from before, if you don't like "Americanized" Asian food, then go somewhere else. I don't know about where you live, but around here we have authentic Asian restaurants too. ;)

Also, what you need to realize is that this happens everywhere. It's not something special to America. Things will be adapted to fit to the new place, and sometimes the quality will be poor. You complain about anime being bad in America... well... have you seen Japanese adaptations of Disney movies? They're not fantastic. The voices don't quite fit, and I've seen several scenes where there's an absence of speech. The characters will be moving their voices, but the Japanese dub didn't take them actually talking.

So, I'm just saying that you should be more aware of things. You might feel that "Americanized" Asian things aren't as good as the original, but that's you're opinion. Businesses wouldn't Americanize things if people weren't there to buy them. ;)

No, I can't say that I've lost interest in real girls.

I have to admit that anime girls are cute, and many are extremely nice and caring. I've had anime crushes, and sometimes I do wish that the anime girls were real people. =P However, they're fictional, and someone real beside you who cares for you is way better than fantasizing forever about someone who isn't real, I suppose. Besides, a real girl could cosplay! XD

Yeah, I listen to J-Pop and J-Rock. I have some music on my computer, and I also listen to several anime online radios. Some of my favorite groups/singers are...

  1. L'Arc~enECiel
  2. Suara
  3. Horie Yui

Of course, there are lots of songs I like, those are mostly just the ones that appear several times. XD

Youtube is a very very usefull video site. "Google Inc.'s YouTube.com removed 29,549 video files from its popular Web site after receiving a demand from a group of Japanese media companies over copyright infringement, an industry group said on Friday. Actually, YouTube has been removing videos for several months now. Though, while I do expect there to be more regulation in the future because Google own YouTube now, I'm betting that a lot of anime will still get through. The thing is... they can remove the videos as many times as they want... people will just upload the videos again. :P

Anyway, I do use YouTube some, but not a whole lot. If I ever want to view something, I find that torrenting is generally better. ;)

This is a low budget fan project, so I wouldn't expect much. There currently (and probably never will be) a full-length, big budget Zelda movie. I don't think Nintendo exactly wants there to be a Zelda movie, most likely because Nintendo wouldn't want the series to be ruined by some movie in America that turned out to be awful. Which... if there were a Zelda movie, it probably wouldn't be very good. :-/

Yeah, xxxHolic is pretty good. Not only does it (as well as Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle) connect other works of CLAMP, it manages to have its own little story that isn't too bad. It can get rather philosophical at times, and that can be good and bad. Overall, it's a very good series, but I personally suggest reading both it and TRC at the same time, since the two slightly connect.

No, simply no. Could we make something similar to anime that is just as good? Yes, that could be done. But, not any time soon. Personally I think American "anime" developers will start springing up more and more, and their productions will become better and better. However, no matter what happens, it simply won't be the same as anime. But, for that matter, not two anime series are ever the same. It can be just as good, maybe even be better... who knows, but it won't be the same. ;)
