Can you listen to music while reading manga?

It depends what kind of music, and the mood I'm in. Generally I like to listen to quiet, instrumental music when I read, manga or any type of book. If I listen to a song I would usually sing along to, I can't concentrate =P

Does Heaven and Hell exist?

Well, since I don't really believe in God, it's kind of hard to believe in Heaven or Hell. I also don't believe in the supposed reasons people are sent to each. According to some people, Ghandi would probably gone to hell, and that just doesn't sound right to me....

Do you live an interesting life?

Well, my life isn't interesting in the "reality tv" sense of the word, but it's not dull. I like the way I live, and if it were completely uninteresting I would just change it up ^_^ Life is pretty much what you make it, and like one of my favorite teachers says, "Life is only boring to boring people" =P

how do you fight stress?

Honestly, I don't stress out that much, but when I do I get horrible headaches or stomach aches, so I have found some good ways to keep it from getting that far. If I start feeling stressed I turn my music up full blast, the loudest, most obnoxious song I can find, and I just let loose. It's really great, it releases any pent-up anger, and it can be super fun. ^_^

Why did your parents put you that name???

Haha, well, my Name is Jessica, but my Mom wanted me to be named Jesse because one day she was driving and she saw a billboard for Meremac Caverns' Jesse's Cavern. -_- So yea, I'm named after a billboard, a cave, or an outlaw, depending on how you look at it =P

one of the teachers at my school is into anime and stuff. She sponsors the J-pop club, which sounds cool enough, but she's way creepy and I'm actually kind of scared of her o.0 Not because she likes anime, just cuz she looks like a she-man and these Professor Trelawny looking glasses.....And she's mean <.<

Yuki Kajiura anyone? or See-Saw or FictionJunction?

I LOVE Yuki Kajiura! Her music in .Hack//SIGN and Tsubasa is amazing, and listening to her always puts me in an awesome calm and mellow mood ^_^ .Hack definitely wouldn't have been half as good without her music to set the mood. It matched perfectly!

Piercings and Tattoos

Well, I have two piercings in each ear, though I want another for the cartilage. I've thought about getting my nose pierced, but my family would probably kill me, and I'm not sure if I would want it later on....Tattoos are the same. I'd love a small tattoo on my ankle or shoulder, but I could never decide on what to get...

I love both, but I'm really a dog person at heart. I have two dogs; a golden retriever and a daschund, and I love them to death! The daschund is really more like a cat than a dog though, but he's sooooo cute xD And golden retrievers are the most lovable dogs ever! <3

Heavy metal in OP and ED scences what do you think?

When I first saw the new OP I had to do a double take. And then I fell over laughing. Honestly, I don't think it fits the show, but that's not to say I hate the song. The lyrics are a bit over the top, and the animation kind of gives me a headache, so overall I don't think it fits. The ED however, has become one of my favorite songs. I love it to death! Especially the ending of the full version. I think there are definitely animes that could use a metal song, and I would love to hear some more like the ED.

Childish of being watched ANIME?

Well, I can see where people would think anime was childish, and indeed, that's part of its appeal. Although not all anime is for kids, most people will believe what they want to believe. Most of my friends think anime is dumb and kiddy, but they really haven't seen any good stuff

Fullmetal Alchemist Movie: Conqueror of Shambala

Well, I'm a huge fan of all things Fullmetal Alchemist, and I loved the movie. The art was great, I got a nice dose of Ed <3 and the music was great, as always. I even went out and bought the special edition dvd. I can understand why some people don't like it though. I think there should be another OAV or something, to help add some more closure.

The saddest Anime !? Can something like that change your life

Avatar for ManateeGirl

There are actually a lot of anime that I've watched which encouraged me to think differently about how I act.

  1. Shana made me realize that you need to have courage to talk to the people you have a crush on.
  2. NHK made me realize that I was watching too much hentai.3. Elfen Lied made me realize that evil is just a state of mind and not some kind of universal constant.
  3. Gunslinger Girl made me realize the preciousness of life.
    5. AIR gave me some thoughts about the reasons why some people isolate themselves. 6. Hoshi no Koe made me think about the distant that separates my parents and myself and how I need to keep in touch with them.
  4. Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou told me to keep things simple (instead of getting complicated).
  5. R.O.D. taught me the importance of comradeship.
  6. Kashimashi allowed me to see that love is genderless.
    10. Furi Kuri taught me that twenty different people can look at something and see twenty-one different things.
I agree witht the hilighted ones. (especially #10. FLCL was amazing. I still hold that the best part was the music though :P)

Anime can definatly change my outlook on things. I love shows that make me think, and while I'm a crybaby and am constantly tearing up over the misfortunes that befall my favorite characters, I think some of the saddest animes that I have seen would be: 1. Fullmetal Alchemist: This show made me cry on more than one occasion, and it made me think about my relationship with my sister. I love this show to death 2. Chrno Crusade: The endng had me bawling and I couldn't sleep that night. >.< The manga got me too... 3. Parts of the Fruits Basket manga: certain moments really get to me, and I just want to hug kyou and yuki till they can't breathe XD 4. Kimi Ga Nozomu Ein: of course I found this one sad; you almost have to be heartless not to. But it didn't really make me cry... 5. Wolf's Rain: Oh my god, I was crying like a baby >.< This anime made me think about the nature of our dreams, and how we treat our friends. I also really wanted to hug my doggy after this...lol

How do you critque anime?

Avatar for ManateeGirl

Well, to some extent everyone is critical about what they watch, anime or otherwise. The elements I judge most would have to be art style, and plot. If an anime has an art style that isn't appealing to me (i.e. One Piece or .Hack//GIFT) I find it a lot harder to get into. The plot is an obvious point too, since if you don't like the story then it doesn't matter if everything else is perfect (unless it's a comedy, in which case a plot isn't always necessary). I try not to be too critical, and I'm willing to watch almost anything, but there are some things that just have to click for me to enjoy an anime.

Genres you generally stay away from

Anybody here generally not like a certain genre of anime?

For me, it's shounen. I used to watch Naruto (read, too) for some reason, I stopped caring less and less by the chapters, and now, I'm completely sick of it. I don't mean the fillers, I mean the series as a while. In fact, you could even say that it lured me away from the genre itself. There's something about knowing that the main character HAS to win that takes away from the show. That's also why I hated Hikaru no Go. Bleach, I can stand as long as it's not filler. That would be one exception.

Lol, that's pretty true. Shounen can get annoying in that respect, but I'll admit that I still love watching/reading shounen. There's something endearing about Hikaru No Go and Hunter x Hunter, and I just get sucked in. Even if I know they're gonna win in the end, I still enjoy it ^_^ I used to stay away from Shojou, but I've started liking it lately. I think I pretty much stay away from overly gorey anime, and stupid echii anime, but other than that I'll watch just about anything. Except sports anime. I hate those. I don't enjoy watching live sports, so I don't see why anime sports would be any better.

Why do great anime falter in America?

Avatar for ManateeGirl

5 years, 3 months ago

Like everyone has said before, the American public sees anime as cartoons, and is meant only for little kids. I know from personal experience that another reason the audience is so limited, is because a lot of people won't admit to liking anime, since it is considered for children. A show will pick up more watchers if they tell their friends about it, but since anime has a fairly shy audience, it can't spread as easily. It's also harder to produce in America, what with the dubbing, editing (god forbid we expose any American children to bloody tv shows <_<) and licensing, plus the internet fanbase (the majority of anime fans) can get the media for free. Lets face it, most of us won't buy what we know we can get for free online.

FMA, Naruto Or InuYasha?

FMA owns all of those, without a doubt. I liked inuyasha, but it doesn't even come close, and Naruto was ok, but I got bored around episode 140.

Does anime affect your mood?

Well, yea, the anime I watch usually does affect my mood. It's the same with movies, books, music, etc. The stuff that happens around you changes your mood. If I watch a depressing anime, I'm likely to be sad for a while, but then if I listen to a really happy song I usually cheer up (unless it was really bad, like when I finished FMA. I was upset for a while...)

Some of my longest-lasting obsessions have been: Eureka 7 Cowboy Bebop (In fact, I just re-watched the movie today ^_^) InuYasha (even though it took me over a year and a half to actually finish it >.<) Yu Yu Hakusho

Where do you store your anime?

I have one shelf for anime DVDs (as in dvds I bought, not burned), and another few shelves for my manga, artbooks and magazines all in little cabinets so nobody can find them :P All my downloaded manga I either move to my external hard drive, or burn onto dvds which I keep in one of two cases that are with my manga. It's all really well organized, unlike the rest of my stuff...

Whats the best english dubbed anime

I usually don't like dubs, but every once in a while there is a good one. I think some of the only dubs I prefer over subs would be Yu Yu Hakusho, Trigun, and Fruits Basket (Yuki sounds too much like a girl in the subs...). Some other good dubs are Full Metal Panic! (The sub and dub are about equal in my opinion), Fullmetal Alchemist (sub is better, but the dub is still good), and Chrno Crusade (I haven't heard the sub).
