Greetings,

After over decade running AP we've made the tough decision to suspend normal operation of the site for the near future. Sadly there aren't enough hours in the day and it was time to make a decision on what to spend our efforts on. It's a pivotal time for our other project right now and we do not have the focus, manpower or system resources to run everything we have got right now.

We'd like to thank the community for their support over the past decade. It's been a pleasure.

Pro users may still log in below. We are no longer accepting new registrations.

Best,

Nice clean vector, good use of gradients in some places and nice colours. Only the skin shades are a bit too reddish to my liking. Still a very nice work. Good job. +fav

Couldn't make the deadline, it isn't finished even now. Too much stuff came up. So maybe next round I can start sooner and finish it. GJ to everyone that entered, looking forward on the voting.

I likely won't make the Sunday deadline, so if there is someone else that needs those extra 2 days, please do extend. If not, too bad for me.

Great wallpaper. Very attractive on first looks and very impressive after downloading it.

You did a great job on vectoring it. It is clean, sharp and well executed. So many lines to draw, so many shapes to create, good job on finishing it. It is forgiven that some parts look a little simple (just as in the scan) because there is so much going on the wallpaper. I love how you added your own touch to the shades and how you created the gradients! That is one of the hardest parts to do in my opinion.

The colours are nice and smooth. Somehow the bright colours still blend into the wall very well. Also the very light texture you used gives a extra nice feel.

There is only one thing I don't like (only clear to see on Rev5 and not present on some other Revs), is the eyes of Luki and Noki look weird. Maybe because their eye white is skin-coloured instead of white. I only noticed it because they are one of my favourite characters in the Dogs manga.

Still the overall work is amazing and excellent executed. Well done. Keep it up!

I think I got some more insights on your working method, interesting. I sometimes also use a color layer to get easy base colors, but I work in CMYK to be able to use the Key (K of CMYK) to create my own shades and tints. Also for easy shade/tints I just use the "Color Guide". But nowadays I stop doing that since I use the meshtool.

By accident I discovered some options for the eyedropper. Kind of very basic AI stuff everyone should already know, but it was a new find for me.

Maybe you can get the eyedropper set up to your liking. I dig the 3x3 average option on the eyedropper :)

You are absolutely right about not resisting this scan. Good choice. It has some kind of magical attraction and that is exactly what your wallpaper is showing as well. I personally think Rev4 looks the best, it gives the most magical feel in my opinion.

Good job on the background. Creating it from scratch. Some of the things are nicely detailed (waterlilies and the dark bushes) , but I miss that on the trees in the back. And I love the water.

I think the vector looks, although a little bit jagged, nice.

And there is something I noticed when looking to the wallpaper in critique-mode. It appears that some of the dots that should create the magic are not reworked. They appear as hard-edged white dots, where the others are nicely reworked with a blur or smudge.

But I still like this wallpaper as a whole. Good job.

Looks nice! Good job on the videos (and suitable music xD). Good vid for getting some ideas/inspirations, it is just unfortunate that you can't see which tools you use.

Keep up the good work.

An Jeongwon has some nice stuff and I selected 2 of this artist scans for potential entries for this round, but decided to go for another scan. Only to find out that I don't have the time to finish anything. So I won't enter this round unfortunatly.

But here was the scan I was working on Chocolat on this scan:

Sayori picture

Just want to share this picture. Maybe someone wants to do this one, because imo it is very suitable for this round.

To everyone else that is still working on their entries.

Good Luck.

My votes:

  1. @alenas
  2. @CloudGer
  3. @Yamaro / @Scorpedo
  4. @Tens / @wonderngo / @saiyagok
  5. @Vampluva / @dolce-yasmin
  6. @Horseradish / @SamB / @Akiranyo
  7. @TheMajor
  8. @Valuna / @acidtreat101
  9. @4Fi

The descriptions:

So many entries to check...

@alenas: Excellent vector. Very attractive, very well executed, I haven't been able to spot flaws. Great scan choice too. I like the use of gradients and how smooth some parts have become. The only thing is that the white tints on the ribbon are a bit too white in my opinion.

@CloudGer: Nice, clean, smooth, appealing, well executed. Nothing I would want to change on it as it is, maybe just that ribbon that you weren't able to finish.

@Yamaro: Great vector. Nice and big, very appealing. Nice Yamaro tag in the vector. Good use of colors.

@Scorpedo: I think this is a very unique vector. I like how you have done the brushed style lineart. The coloring is well executed as well.

@Tens: Very good job in getting it almost done. It is still a very good vector, but you can see it is not yet finished.

@wonderngo: You have improved greatly comparing to your last VectaDesu entry. Great job! High quality vector, no leaks, very good lineart. Good scan choice.

@saiyagok: A nice messy colors and a most parts no outlines style. That is something I like.

@Vampluva: Doesn't look like a too complicated vector. I like how the wings have become, great job. The hair and eyes are appealing too. Only able to spot 1 leak and some jaggedness, so overall a good vector.

@dolce-yasmin: A good vector. Much of the lineart, when viewed fullsize, looks jagged though. The coloring is well done, only able to spot a few minor leaks. But overall it is a well executed vector.

@Horseradish: It is a pity you couldn't get your final result to enter. However the work looks nice so far. I like your idea to change the picture into Baby Doll.

@SamB: In my opinion a better work than your previous VectaDesu entry. Good scan/character choice, I like the art of Magna Carta. However there are still some leaks in the vector and I like a no-outline style, but it was only used in some places which makes it look a little bit weird in my opinion.

@Akiranyo: Good quality vector like always, but the choice of scan isn't really appealing to me and I think it is somewhat too dark colored, bit too much black.

@TheMajor: Nice vector, but I am still thinking there are some inconsistencies in the lineart. Some of the gradients worked out well, while in other places it didn't so much. Good job on extending the vector and taking the advantage of an early entry to fix some things.

@Valuna: A fairly simple vector. Lineart is well done, but in my opinion there is not much detail and depth in it, especially the hair.

@acidtreat101: A simple looking vector. Nice try on gradienting the outlines, but most fill "gradients" are just looking like heavy blurred shapes to me.

@4Fi: Not really appealing to me because of the very thick black outlines and somewhat heavy filling. A bit too crude for me.

Final note:

This round must be the round with the highest quality vectors so far. In my opinion my top 4 are all winning material. And I am missing some entries. Where is mouton's? Plus if there would be an award for most improved, I would give it to Wonderngo.

Everyone keep it up and good luck

That is too bad cloud, but uni is more important ;)

And btw, before, I used the same method as you (I think) to create gradients in AI for vectors. I still see it as a good way to create gradients, since the mesh can still be confusing. Especially when the shapes are becoming more complex I would prefer an easy and quick pentool instead of a mesh to save time.

I will see if I can enter this one, but it is unlikely.

Amazing lineart you got here. I don't even know how you have done that, but it is something unique. Good job on that. Coloring is well done too. Overall quite an unique vector.

Great job on this vector, really nice work. Only spotted 1 small leak which no one would notice anyways if the they don't watch the biggest size in full. Still great work.

Great vector cloud, too bad you didn't get to finish it before the deadline, but I think it is already good as it is. So smooth.

Well, I had given up on this VDS round ;) The normal contest took all my time. And furthermore my chosen scan, a great one in my opinion, was already of such quality that vectoring it would be kind of pointless, so I abandoned. Sorry to hear this round has only 1 entry xD. I still like the idea of the Special, but time is more an issue for me.

Let's hope more entries will come ;)

Nice job. I especially like how the wings have become. They are nicely done. The hair and eyes look nice.

However on the darker parts (lines and shape borders) of the vector really look jagged. I think there is a small leak on her hand vs wing. And there is one thing that is disturbing me personally, I am aware that it is like that in the picture as well, is the line/shape on the right side of her dress. It just looks out of place in my opinion.

One more suggestion is that you can reduce the height of your image since it is unused space anyways.

I must say you improved on your last vector. I can see you improving. There is much less leaking than last time. (there is one at the sleeve/sash and between the legs at the top of the leggings) The no-lines style I like, but you didn't use it everywhere so in my opinion it looks a little bit weird on some places.

I am also wondering why you used PS. As it seems to me that this pattern on the sleeve isn't vectored and thus in conflict of VectaDesu rules I think. You might want to crosscheck it.

It is a nice/ attractive vector. Good job.

Pretty well done, kinda large resolutions though. I very appreciate that you extended the scan (that is one of the motivations for a vector in my opinion). What software did you use for it?

This is a good vector, but I still have some points of critiques. Because of the high resolution I was able to spot some bleeds, but you won't be able to spot it when it is used in a wallpaper or when the vector is in a lower resolution, so there isn't a real need to fix that (I even doubt many people would notice). Furthermore there are some places where I think there are some inconsistencies in the lineart, but that may be your style / intention.

Anyway good job on the vector

Ps. For the background, it seems like it is a clean logo of Blazblue", you can google it on images by entering "Blazblue logo". I think you can find something you like and can use. You might need to vector the logo as well though.

I will chain You.

Pretty good attempt for a first vector and better than some of the stuff you see these days. But if you are going to upload a revision you might want to take out a few of the leaks as well. And your export at full size looks a little bit jagged. But overall a good job for a first try, you will get there.
