Don't read something and blindly believe in it. Journalists often write things for their own benefits: to stir up gossip, to make something so small and trivial seem so important, to get more exposure so that their bosses will recognise them and they get a promotion. It's how they sell their work.
Okay, so not all journalists are blatant liars, but it's all in the wording (equivocation, pespective and glossing over facts), so take it all with a pinch of salt.

We say that we wouldn't want to change, but we are always changing! Hands up if you were quiet and sullen and angry as a little kid, but now you're more even-tempered and thoughtful? Hands up if you liked a specific sport and participated in a hobby, but now you do something totally different like play a musical instrument?
All these are subtle changes that we make in our lives. Our parents and teachers and friends may tell us that we should be more respectful, more sociable, put more effort in our work, hobby or sport etc, and most of us strive to fit in with our society, or rebel and deliberately not listen, but ultimately these are all choices that we make ourselves, and make us who we are. All these people ask us to change, and we decide if we do or don't.
So in that case, we DO change for just ONE person. Many times over.
About changing a personality trait or habit for a loved one, then I would say if it makes me a better person, if it doesn't go against of who I am or what I believe in, and also that I'm not too lazy to change, then why not?
