i don't think i can vary my voice enough to fit different types of characters... if i tried, it would be really obvious...

i still can't figure out how hirano-san can switch from that ultra-high speaking voice to her voice in, say, lucky star

If you're using the site as a portfolio, it looks a lot more professional if you have your own domain name and not just some sub-directory name and no ads. If you're using university hosting, there are actually a lot of stuff you can do on there that you can't do on free web hosting services. A lot of university are semi-lenient on allowing scripting and such.

Buying a laptop

Given your requirements, you won't miss out on much if you choose Macs OR PCs. For the purposes you listed, just focus your money on CPU and RAM. Graphics processors will improve on-the-fly video encoding/decoding, but won't otherwise greatly affect editing. Integrated graphics should be fine.

Make sure that the form factor is one you'll be comfortable with. Sure you can get a desktop replacement with 17" or even 19" screens, do you really want to lug around one of those things?

In terms of processor I would recommend Intel Cores, simply because they seem to be more efficient as laptop processors at the moment. As far as I know, Intel currently is ahead of AMD in the laptop market.

For specific brand/models, I personally would never get a Dell laptop, because I've had pretty bad experiences with their customer service and their laptops all look really, really ugly. You should probably check out the cases before you choose a model, as I know of at least several models that have flimsy cases. Check out keyboard and mouse layouts and if things are where you want them to be. Quality of design of these subtle but important details vary greatly across the board.

My guess is also along the lines of color profiles. Are the colors different only when you're printing them or are they different on the display as well?

Opera 9 vs. Firefox 2 vs. Internet Explorer 7

I prefer Firefox overall mainly since I'm most familiar with it. It sports all the features I need, while not being too harsh on memory. I might have used IE 7 if it didn't continue IE's trend of overall bugginess and memory-leaking (seems like it doesn't like releasing any memory until closing and simply continues to claim more as I open pages). I would recommend Opera equally as much as Firefox, though I'm simply not as familiar with it.

What kind of file is it? If you're trying to transfer a data file, then you can just split it using any archiver (WinZip, WinAce, 7-Zip, etc.) and burn it on multiple discs. If it's a video or audio file and you don't want to split it, then re-encode it using a lower bitrate.

Need help with Opera browser

Like MADx said, it seems like a firewall problem (since you can't access the internet through any browser). What's your internet connection setup? If it is a firewall problem, you might have a hardware firewall (on a router, for example) blocking all your traffic, or a software might not be trained to allow web browser traffic yet.

Is this video card a good deal?

It depends on how long you're trying to keep the card for or what games you're trying to play with it. It should be able to handle most games, though as firestorm said, some games require more power. Besides, the gaming industry is advancing too quickly for any given graphics card to be able to keep up with the latest games for a long period of time anyway. It would probably help if you set a goal for what games you're looking forward to play.

As far as the deal itself, it's a pretty decent price for the card, possibly not the best though.

Please list your computer's specifications if you wish for other people to give you advice as to whether your laptop is able to run WoW at comfortable frame rates.

Windows Vista Versions

My laptop has the Vista upgrade plan, but I think I'm going to stay with XP, mainly since Vista uses so much more resources than XP. I want to still be able to have more than 5 hrs of battery on my lappy.

This is very impressive for being your first wallpaper. Concept-wise, It captures a different side of the relationship between Kyon and Suzumiya. Composition-wise, very nice use of color on an otherwise B&W background. Very minimalistic but effective.

msconfig

If you scroll horizontally on that list, you should see another column named "Location". That should tell you where those particular startup program entries were specified. Entries that start with "HKLM..." are registry entries. With that information you should be able to go in and see what's causing the blank entries.

Furthermore, I noticed that you're using a custom skin for Windows. Have you been using that when you last looked at how much resources is being used (when the resource usage was half it is now). Skinning programs like that often take up a lot of memory.
