Without the blur is better I agree, but the stars in the background make the lines of you foreground look even blockier and does draw the eye away from your characters. I would taper off the edges of the vector more, you have photoshop pentool rounded ends going on.

I wouldn't submit it just yet. The edges are not uniforrm. LIke the text is sharp and the checkerboard boxes are very blurry. You have a large dead space where the red in the bottom left is. I would re-vector the image you have now, just the make all edges uniform and the take the seperate color layers and add some very mild texture to kill any monotany, or you could flatten the image are you vector and duplicate the layer and apply a low 1-2 pixel gaussian blur to the top layer and set layer to overlay or soft light it will give it the look of a painted cell or pencil board :)

Ultimate girls was too wierd for me, I can handle ecchi, floods of it, but let me tell you a very short story;

Never watch an anime with you Mom before you have watched it yourself, the end.

That has to be without a doubt one of the most offensive shows ever, I thought it was funny, oddly enough my mom did too. It was so random, but when I first saw ads (promo pictures) for the anime it looks so sweet and the characters almost looked like characters from a Little Snow Fairy Sugar, oh how wrong I was.

Do you watch anime alone or with your brothers/sisters/friend ... ? and why ?

Paranioa agent didn't make much sense to me and I actually gave up on Serial Experiments Lain.... Usually I can hang with an anime and enjoy it without completely getting it, so it is rare for me to to give up early on.

Oh wow.... I'm actually at a point where stuff is not going to help me. My partner is going to Scotland to get his doctorate and I am scrambling to cover my bases and make sure I have a place to live over there, so I guess I would want something I could pawn right away. If I had to choose something it would be a Nintendo DS and a bunch of games to keep me distracted on the plane ride (I've never flown before).

do u believe in 'true love'???

Avatar for fooblued

Calling it just hormones and chemical reactions is just sort of a sad way to look at it... I have lived with the same person for five years and before that I had several long term relationships... that sucked. I can say from my personal experience that the truest love is not something that occurs with two people but within one person when they are prepared to love unconditionally. I don't think that you are limited to love only one or two people on earth. But I definitely think that chemical attraction is not a very accurate meter for compatibility. Like I said my previous relationships really were awful, but I guess I let the chemical attraction take over and my goal to achieve unconditional love kept me from asserting myself and putting up with everything that bothered me instead of speaking up and eventually I just got mad and gave up on the relationship. So I guess there is no true love that you don't have to work at, but a good relationship is very fullfilling.... yup true love is a pipe dream, but honesty, respect, and care can lead to what most would call true love.

Too... much... filters.... concentrate on the character and giveing the wall a purpose (like something inspired by the character or storyline being portrayed in the background) always helps..

I like the style that came out on you vectoring, but it looks a bit strange next to the cell animation shots on the left. I would say vector those as well, and maybe vector the flowers, the smooth crisp lines make the hand drawn look of the flowers not match. I would make the flowers match the style of the text and thicken the text as well, right now the outlines of the anime caps overwhelm it.

The main issue is the lack of clarity with the character, Its outline isn't very strong and with such a plain background it really needs to fill more space.

A big problem I also had starting out is that if you go for a composit picture you have to make sure that all of the scans are the same quality, other wise it has a really bizzare look to it....

Yeah the main character is waayy too blurry, and as for the background you might want to make the theme of it a zoom rather than spin to emphasis the ball coming at you quickly... and it also help when the background is not "anime style" to pull colors from the character to help tie it in.

Perhaps carry the flower design to somewhere else in the picture to balance it.. like fading it behind the character from the top left, it doesn't have to be in the same colors as her belt, but maybe the colors of the background with just the pattern showing through.. I lke how the text is by the way... and that almost never happens (I'm not a text person).

I like how you have used the lines texture to tie the two images together, but you have some blank space at the center and right top, the text doesn't match the theme of the images, try acidfonts to find something more applicable to the style.

Whaaaaa a good source but it was too small when you resized it, you only option are to vector it (that would take a while to say the least) or to find a better source for the picture, and then it would just be a cropped scan/cap and not really applicable for a submission to AP...

Do You Use a Wacom ?

I use a Intuous6x8 and I have to say it was a great investment, it is also versitile enough that I don't have problems with it using it left handed... some of the tablet I had before had difficulty with the angle and the button set up on the pad. Before this I had a Graphire4x6 for about two years. It gets the job done and is the best way to guage how well you can handle using a tablet. Its a bit of an adjustment from pen and paper. Also staring with that is cheaper and from my experience with other brands a graphire (or the low end of wacoms) works about as well and the high end of other tablet makers (Acer ect). It a good economical way to start. The differences I noticed when I switched to Intuous from a Graphire are: hot buttons on the tablet itself (you can set these to any shortcut, I myself have the main one set to get screen grabs from zoomplayer); long long cord, about eight feet, you can easily set it in your lap to work on the comp, good for those who like to lean back in thier chairs; a selection of 'nibs' for the stylus, they mimick the feeling of drawing with a marker, pencil or pen; auto earaser, the reverse side of the pen is auto set to function as an eraser in PS or Painter style programs; other than that it has higher recognition of pen movement ect... SO I would say unless you are currently a working artist hold off and start with the Graphire to see if tablets are right for you :D

Part of me thinks its just creepy. I have a freind in Austrailia and he tried to get me to join but I just don't have any interest in becoming a camhoe any time soon. Thats all it seems like to me, people who want to be internet famous... like a person can be. Even the people who show up on the news as "the most downloaded whatever", I've never heard of them. I think the only thing addictive about it is the attention, and I am not throwing stones here, when I got my first website I was constantly checking the number on the visitors counter and I was pretty liberal about the information I gave out too. I could easily see being swept away at 14 by the attention you recieve at first coming into a new community. And as much as I want to complain about them, most times it just seems a little sad... like they don't have enough freinds or are not high enough on the social ladder in real life to suit them...

I like the placement of characters, it gives the wall good motion. But I think you made a critical error with the photoshop cut out filter. It gives it a low quality look, and having the nice clean text in front of the jagged background doesn't work well either. I wouldn't give up with this scan, it has a great composition, but I would avoid using excessive filters on your main characters in the wall. On the colors I don't think it has a good flow to have lighter/brighter colors that draw the eyes from the characters. I like the bars idea, it really suits the characters and if they were done differently would help the eys to focus on them more. I would go back and make them darker (without the invert) and reduce the contrast. My humble opinions, hope they help.

I'm looking foreward to it, but why did they wait so long between the series and the OVA? Is the manga continuing or is it going to be a different storyline?

I also play the Voilin, 4/4 size :D. Since I was nine so for about 16 years now. I only started playing because I had a huge crush on a boy down the street and I found out he played it for school and then the next year after I took it up and was finally able to play in school classes I found out he quit. But it had grown on me by then and I continued to play it, and my parents wouldn't let me quit by then anyway :P I don't know about hygenic, because you can't really get the sweat and bacteria from you hand off of the fingerboard without damaging the finish or drying out the wood. But I remember in highschool we had some of the band in to play with the orchestra and they left puddles in the back of the room from the condesation in thier instruments it was disgusting.... With violin my advice is... confidence, if you play with confidence you can learn from your mistakes instead of downplaying them by playing softer.

I think you are running into a couple problems here; the moon bubbles and leaves all clash with each other. The character you have chosen is in manga style and most of the accents for your background are more along the lines of anime not manga. You could try filters to make the objects look sketched, or draw freehand with a tablet alternatively just draw you idea and scan it. If you are not that comfortable to draw and scan it, try compiling it on the computer print it out and trace the contours you want, a bit of a cheat, but I find that I have a better sense of perspective when I look at my monitor than looking at a peice of paper at an angle. But yeah, make sure that the style of the character/the foreground is the same style as your background and accents :)

I have to say that "Grave of the Fireflies" will always be my favorite. And I don't enjoy watching that movie, but it provokes such a huge reaction in me. It stands out among his other works because it lacks a happy feel good atmosphere. Which don't get me wrong I love Kiki's delivery service and Howl's moving castle, and whenever releases get shown in theaters I go see them, because all of his movies are great. But Grave of the Fireflies draws out a huge emotional reaction. I can still remember the first time I saw it. I was still living with my parents and when I got done watching it I was sobing so loudly that my Mom thought something happened, like someone died or something. I tried to explain to her that it was the movie that was on and at first she didn't want to believe me I was so upset. I made her watch it with me later and she cried too. Its moving because it deals with American attacks on Japan. That in itself is hard for me to mentally cope with. I know we fight for freedom, and I accept that as an inevitabilty of modern society, but to see how civilians are involved and fall victim to thier governments fighting. It is a movie that I think everyone should see, I think it would make anyone appreciate thier life more. Bit of a rant there, but it is a subject I feel strongly about.
