Greetings,

After over decade running AP we've made the tough decision to suspend normal operation of the site for the near future. Sadly there aren't enough hours in the day and it was time to make a decision on what to spend our efforts on. It's a pivotal time for our other project right now and we do not have the focus, manpower or system resources to run everything we have got right now.

We'd like to thank the community for their support over the past decade. It's been a pleasure.

Pro users may still log in below. We are no longer accepting new registrations.

Best,

HOW TO USE LINUX (FEDORA)????

@honorsharkthreads get locked because they are long dead or that they do not garner replies anymore (assuming no violation was committed in the thread in question).

to the thread starter: fedora is a bit complicated for beginners in linux. i recommend you try ubuntu first though it's more or less the same. else, the best thing that i can advise you is to read on some linux/fedora-specific forums or go directly to fedora's site.

linux is not an os like mac or windows where it works out-of-the-box. you have to really tweak it to your liking, (and i have to emphasize tweaking). you have to play around with it until it suits your needs or until it becomes stable according to your needs. =)

Upgrading Slightly

  1. Install Vista onto the dominant hardrive 2. Then install XP onto the next one

hmmm... i have been working with multi-os platforms for quite a while now. usually, you install the earlier os first. is it different for vista's case (or for a 64bit os for that matter)? personally, i haven't tried installing or even using vista...

Intel or AMD Processor

it has been more than a year since i last visited and been active in the forums here. i got here today 'cause i'm bored.. hehhehehe

well in any event, i have been reading tech forums here and there. i have not heard much from amd since intel dominated the market with their conroe's (or the core 2 duo processor line for those who don't know). that was the time when i last bought a pc, my c2d e6600. well, that was the era before quad cores became the mainstream processors for enthusiasts.

during those days, amd tried its best to catch up. unfortunately, they never won the market back.

now, i am looking forward to what they are brewing over at the amd labs. phenom ii, or the deneb. engineering models have come out and have been tested, benchmarked and even overclocked. sounds promising, all of them have been getting good results from this processor. we'll have to see when this comes out of the market.

answering to the thread topic - this has always been a question for every tech-savvy people around. but the real question is "which processor for what use". me, i get my answers from official benchmarks... then i think of what i am going to use my pc for. i take no sides when it comes to their products. but i like amd better because of the price:performance ratio. you get more out of your money.

What anime made you cry?

going back to those days, you might say "it's so not you" if i start giving you my list of anime where i became emo =)

but nevertheless, i'll give you a good discussion.

at first it was air. really sad end. actually, the sadest parts of this series was the part when yukito transformed into a crow. it revealed the scenes that explained everything that used to be "behind the scenes". with this, we finally realized that haruko was really doing her all for misuzu. and thus, the last episode was made a very touching moment.

and if air was not enough... saikano. i was crying hard (seriously, i was) when i was watching akemi's last moment as she struggles to live. very tomantic yet sad and tragic.

well, i am not seeing much quality anime lately so it was a few months back since i last cried while watching an anime series... =-)

hey there! it has been a while since i checked you out. you sure earned your reputation as a community member again. i strongly believe you deserve to be one since you got the most cotributions back in the days of AP3. well, you can say that we grew together in that era.

nice scans as always. take care! =)

Hmm is this mobo realy going to bottleneck my 8800gts?? Hope not. It's ment mostly for working though, although I made sure I'd be able to play new and good releases.

it won't... at least not that significantly. specs-wise, it's good enough for office work unless you're into 3d modeling or intense video editing.

@anzeo

if you are not into gaming that much, or if you are into gaming but are not planning to max out the graphics settings (just decent enough to display those sprites and 3d polygons), then that specs would be good be enough. the most important thing in buying your rig is that you get to enjoy it... regardless of it not being the industry's top performer =)

Intel processor? boooooo w i understand your predicament, being a die-hard AMD fan myself. but times have changed to favor intel. probably for now, though. the benchmarks say it all. core2duo and higher-end processors are the king of the pc-gaming road as of late. amd on the other hand, well... i'm sure they have something prepared for the future, especially now that we have processor limitation issues for the higher-end graphics cards. of course, intel won't let themselves be left behind either.

sad to see that the 9700 is not all copper. but oh well, it's a very good cooler nonetheless...

if i am getting good temps on my eclipse, then i'd be expecting more on the zalmans then... =)

i like these kinds of threads. keep em coming. i might post mine here soon or make another thread =)

@Unrealbr

how much is the size difference of a 9500 and a 9700 zalman? that is what i was about to buy but sadly the item is scarce here. i'm currently using the cooler master eclipse, which is a good performer because it gives me 44 degrees centigrade at full load =) of course, i would still prefer to get the CNPS9700NT, all copper!

if you can still back out on the order, i would recommend you use the ASUS P5N32-SLI Deluxe mobo instead. i say so because it's better to use an nForce (nForce4 in this case) chipset on an 8800gts graphics card. trust me, i have the same configuration (mobo-video card) and i got no complaints.

...or probably if you still have cash, get the Striker Extreme to harness the full potential of the 8800gts (or any mobo with nForce 680i).

the rest of the other stuff are A-okay!!! =)

i have read dias' post regarding community member priveledges. asking as to what would be the scenario for senior members? would it be divided likewise, or will senior members have both priveledges of bypassing the scan and wallpaper queue (even if i don't submit that much lately...)?

thanks in advance.

wohoo.. finally... someone made this thread :) i've been a strategy game and C&C fan for some time, and loves every game in the series, especially red alert. C&C 3 looks awesome, but i'm worried about the system requirements for this game.... will it require Windows Vista? 1GB RAM? is it a DX10 game? if it is..... thats too bad because i havent got vista yet. if the game is compatible with win xp.... i'm definitely gonna buy it!

wonder how kane survives after the last game (tiberian sun) and i'm excited to know what are the new faction...

this game definitely gonna rock!

yeah, a big fan of rts here too =) as for compatibility, modern games aren't venturing in the vista-DX10 just yet. definitely, they're gonna make it WinXP-DX9.0c as far as the minimum requirements are concerned. as for the graphics, it ain't going to require much as RTS games are known to be more of a processor-intensive than graphics-intensive... but when i saw the trailers, i started wondering. too much eyecandy i guess... =)

what would i do? i'd break up with my girlfriend if she stops me from letting me do what makes me happy. cause i know that women like those tend to be very dominant, in my opinion. well, that is if she will be too assertive about that to the point where it gets "Choose: Anime or Me?"

but i also believe that it will not happen in reality. never really had someone like that... not even my friends.

Dubbed vs. Subbed

Avatar for mikageryuji

I think it's unwise to generalize and say ALL dubs are evil bastardizations of the original. Some dubs are quite good (no where near all though) and on occasion better than original voice talent. I keep a little rule while watching any new anime: if a dub is available, at least watch one episode dubbed. If the dub sucks, switch back to Japanese with English subs and all is good.

I really don't get the whole "lost in translation" thing either, because I've watched a couple animes both subbed AND dubbed, and the subs are almost identical to what is being said in the dub... I don't see what's being lost...

Although, I have to admit that the Naruto and One Peice dubs suck unbelievably badly...

true at some extent, though i would like to emphasize some points here. for one, it is true that some dubs have identical wordings with the subbed versions. this is true, and i believe that the dubbers and scriptwriters stick to the original wordings as much as possible. however, due to matching up the actual dubbing speech and the original, translated script is the hard part. they have to match the mouth movement or at least time that right. and thus, they have to make changes if the english equivalent is too short or too long.

as for voice acting, i have not much to say because i have very limited experience with american dubs. the thing about that is... well, americans are better actors and actresses after all. but for some reason, they do not do well in anime dubbing. mostly of what i watch are dubbed so bad it made the anime suck, to the point where i can say that "AXN does better". but what i really admire about american dubbing is that they have the effort of looking for people with close-to-the-original voices. i am very surprised with this myself after seeing some viz and geneon licensed stuff (i was checking out the dubs whenever i grab a dvd copy).

speaking of licensing companies, the one that have the tackiest dubbers... ADV. after being branded by fansubbers as the "licensing nazzis".... well, for the most part, titles that they license have the most number of complaining viewers (based from where i am: friends, classmates, work colleagues). they often "americanize" the dialogues which end up losing its meaning and context. good thing about them though is that they keep the original meaning on their subs.

bottom line and conclusion: fansubbers do sub better than licensing companies.

my two cents.

The anime was decent enough? mikageryuji what are you thinking

well, i'm saying it minus the ova. since the anime contained the gist of the manga. the first part of the ova, however, were also good in a way that they were an alternate representation of the continuation of the series. of course, i have to agree that the ending of the anime sucked... BIG TIME!!!

overall, i cannot say that i totally hate the anime. i will rate it 6/10 compared to the manga. i still like the anime counterpart in some ways... either way, the bottom line here is that the manga satisfied my craving for ichigo's story development.

just finished reading the manga. for one, it is definitely true about what most people here in AP say:

it's definitely better than the anime adaptation.

for one, the anime was like a rushed work of the stories. though saying it fairly, the anime was decent enough to leave me a good impression (which led me to the desire to read the manga).

the story is so heartwarming, yet very frustrating in a number of many ways....

manaka is as indecisive as ever. because of his actions, he ends up hurting the girls as the story moves on... making it more of a tragedy than a romance-comedy. well, maybe because i can relate to the character so much that I want to be in the story and undo everything that he did. the ending was nice but i prefer him being with aya, instead of tsukasa. yeah, he ended up choosing tsukasa after a few years of ending all his relationships.

i can say that my fave is satsuki. one could not resist satsuki's advances. maybe if i were in his situation... "before anything else, i'm a man and you are a woman" as someone would quote. XD~

aya would me my prefered girl for manaka.... just read the story. it's worth the time and frustration. =)
