THE MEDIA: IS EVERYTHING THERE THE TRUTH?

Avatar for stripes714

Ah yes, the media. The reliability of it...NOT.

Okay, the media will have truths in their news, here and there. But this largely depends on the media, cause many medias will censor the truths or news, or others simply fabricate or exagerate existing news to blow them up to grand proportions...

cnn and bbc, they show only what their governments want the people to see, so sometimes important concepts that WOULD be damaging to their nation's governements are completely...ignored in the news.

That's just two examples.

There are many forms of media out there, which concentrate on different aspects. There's a large section of the media that covers the 'paparatzi' section, and all they really do is spread gossip and blow things to grand proportions...

There's the under-valued media, from smaller stations or countries that don't receive the coverage they should, mostly because they tend to cause lots of issues because of the truths that they reveal to the public.

So yeah, it really depends, what I can say for certainty, is that you cannot believe fully what the media tells you, if you do...well...better start searching for additional sources to broaden your horizons.

Swords or Guns?

I'm training several martial arts know for about 16 years and i have to say that a knife always wins against a gun in a range under 26 feet, just because to draw the gun and slacken it take some time and than you have to aim to. resently i had some traininglessons with some people from the german sek ( it`s like a swat unit in usa ). they are also training knife fights in the range under 26 feet cause to draw a knife and run these 26 feet takes you under 2 second when you are well trained, the shooter on the other hand has to draw his gun slack it and than must take aim to wich also costs you between 2 and 3 seconds, wehn your well trained at the gun . so the outcome of this fight would be a fifty-fifty thing, but at a range of 18 feet and less the knifeman always will win ( the same is true for a swordsman also )

so you could say in any fight that is not an head on situaion with a rnge under 26 feet it would probably better to have a gun. but for myself i would always give the sword a try cause like some here said before a sword just looks way much cooler than a gun.

Mysophobia- fear of being contaminated by dirt or germs

If anyone's seen the television series Monk would have an idea of what a that fear can do to a person. Yet, considering he's one of the best detectives in the series it's become a gift in most ways.

I'm not afraid of germs though. Just wanted to point the scientific term for that fear if anyone was interested.

Perfectionist? Not quite but I have my tendencies which came from my mom's genes. I like to maintain a clean and organized space for the most part and will clean and fix when necessary, and when I'm in the mood.

If you let things build up then cleaning and fixing becomes a major hassle. However, being consistent and constant with a routine of "mini-cleans" saves you time in the future.

Remember, clutter is bad...even though it feels good.

I avoid clutter even on my desktop. Everything I keep is in folders and subfolders properly named most of the time.

It's not as bad as it sounds though.

Pictures, Walls, banners, photoshop projects...I keep the images all specifically named based on show and character for easier sorting (not just naming them image1 or 01, 001, one...)

A little off topic, but a general overview of clean.

In terms of hygiene, brush in the morning and evening. Mouth wash.

Wash hands after your business in the bathroom. Before eating. Before cooking. After a workout or from outside, etc...just the basics.

Although I take a shower usually twice a day, however, I do it more to just relax and think to myself than for being clean.

I don't use hand sanitizers unless I'm offered some for whatever reason.

Washing is better though.

Traditions of your country!

So someone already put the question how is your country and I think that's a really good thing that way we repeat geography somehow.Well for me the curiousity is not about the seasons or the landscapes I want to know more about the traditions and cultures of all the countries,I think every culture has it's own interesting things!I started reading Shougun(I hope I spelt it right) these days and the culture of Japanese is even more intriguing right now,i want to get to know it even better. As for me I live in Romania a country full of traditions but right now some of them are being forgotten or changed with those from other countries, especially those from USA,which from my point of view it's not right. We have our own celebration of love called "Dragobete" what is the need for Valentine's Day,maybe because it is more popular. .We have also our own Halloween better said a sort of Halloween celebrated on "Saint AndreiDay"(Andrew in English,I think),on 30th of November..this day some people still put garlic at the windows and doors to chase away evil spirits also this day we put grain in little plates to grow,we throw it away after the New Year usually,it is said that if it grows beautiful and dense you will have a good year. We celebrate on the 6th of December Saint Nicolae(Nicholas)-and on 5th we usually clean our shoes and if we behaved well we receive sweets in our shoes if not we receive a "nuia" a sort of stick(you can imagine that it's used for kids who don't behave). On Christmas kids are coming to sing carols and they usually receive apples, crackels and nuts and of course money! We also have some typical foods..they can't really be translated anyway all the foreigners that drop by and eat them fall in love with them>:3 emoticon! The New Year...oh,boy(9+_+) emoticon...there are like so many things to do:it's not good to eat chicken all day and night,on the table there have to be 12 or more types of food, when it's twelve o'clock it's usually good to have garlic, money and something read on you.Of course before this day it's good to not have nay debt or for someone to be in debt with you something, they say you will have debts all the next year! The Easter...well we don't have chocolate eggs we have real eggs, usually painted in red and there are places in the country where people developed a real art in painting them...they make all sorts of drawings, they even use beads. At every celebration it's usually good to eat fish. The traditions differ actually in every zone of the country, living in town and even in the capital not so many are still kept!

What about your country, does it have some traditions in particular or they are forgotten?

Hrm, i guess there are two different types of crappy in my opinion. There's the depressed side and angry side (might not seem like feeling crappy, but i think it sucks). When I'm depressed, i guess i usually just listen to quiet music and do something really mindless. Like play games, make a new music playlist, change my computer background stuff like that. When i'm angry, i listen to loud music and play violent games, or just watch a bloody movie. But if all else fails, sleep is the number 1 cure all. yay for sleepHrm, i guess there are two different types of crappy in my opinion. Haha I day dream all the time, sometimes especially when people are talking to me. Like when my mom is asking me a million questions, I usually space out. At school I space out 100% of the time.

I want to be a writer, but if that never happens then maybe... a school teacher, for highschool or college aged students. Or hell, maybe just a librarian xD I like to be around books, peace, and quiet, and while being a librarian isn't glamorous at all, i don't want to have a glamorous life. My main concern is just being able to move out of my mom's house and support myself.

I live in the USA. In the northeast, Maryland to be exact. Pretty near to Washington DC, the capital, so there's a fair amount of political happenings around here, but the town I live in, while pretty large, has a small-town atmosphere, lots of countryside, lots of historical stuff, etc.

I've only seen half of it. Downloaded it on bittorent and just never got around to finishing it. It was alright, but not amazing. I did like it more than the Chronicles of Narnia movie, but that's not really saying much because that was a ****movie.

It definitely had a magical feel to it, and it was very adult while at the same time being all about childhood... it was very realistic in a weird sort of way.

Girl problems

I've been thinking alot about finding a girlfriend lately .. I feel so lonely, empty, emo .. whatever you wanna call it . I feel like I need to find someone to spend my time with , share everything with them. The problem is I can't get a girlfriend ever since highschool. I already asked 2 girls out ( on msn , yeah I know I'm shy ) in past 2 years and both rejected me. The ones I can be friends with and can talk to easily are the not so pretty looking ones ( YES I'm quite shallow ). The pretty ones are the ones that attract me but it's kinda hard to talk to cuz I get really nervous when I see one. I know personality is very important when finding a soulmate ( and I learned it the hard way ) but I just can't see myself with an un - attractive looking girl with a good personality. I don't wanna force myself into a relationship that I cannot commit to and regret later. I have way too many regrets . I know that not all pretty girls have bad personality , but the pretty ones with good personality are mostly taken !! I also know that everybody would grow old & gray 1 day .. so looks probably won't matter then , but for now and 20 years later to come it does matter to me . I guess I'm very picky when it comes to girls. Maybe that's why I'm still single. I want to find one ASAP so I can share my life with her more. I'm hoping this whole paragraph makes sense ! So .. yeah guys can you help a shallow guy out ? hahaa thanks for reading

Well dude, you have to be honest with yourself. Look at yourself in the mirror and list to yourself all your assets. Unfortunately, relationships are basically all about assets. At your age these assets are, you know, good looks, popularity, etc. As you get older those assets will still be semi-important, but things like money and success will become the top assets. It's sad but true. You've basically got to price yourself, and think to yourself, based on my looks and bla bla bla, I can get a girl who is mildly attractive and bla bla bla.

What is the most think you find it HARD to do?and why?

Exercising. Definitely exercising. I recently joined a gym (started last June 1st) because my brother dragged me into it and so far, I've only been there 3 times and each time, I spent no more than 2 hours exercising with lots of breaks in between. It's just hard to get motivated to do work. I especially dislike sweating so that can be a problem. Heehee. And considering the cost of joining that particular gym, my colleagues think I"m wasting what I'm paying for.

It's hard! And considering the fact that my body weight is already normal to begin with, it's extra hard to start exercising. Besides, what do I need muscles for? I don't plan on doing any manual labor anytime soon...

The reason I find it hard is because I lack motivation. Hrmm... I need to think of a goal so I can get motivated to exercise...

_________

I agree with that. Exercising is tough for me to do too. For one thing, I hate getting sweaty. For another thing, I'm a sleepy type of person. Pretty low energy, and I just can't get myself pumped to exercise. I'd rather just stay fit by dieting >.>;

Also, my exercise of choice is running, but that's hard to do because I live with my dad and he lives in a rather bad neighborhood where it's pretty much just not safe to run alone. I can only run when I visit my mom and that's not really very often.

I would be kinda disappointed if my boyfriend didn't like anime, but as long as he didn't have any problem with me for being so obsessed with it I wouldn't really mind. Though if I had to choose between a guy who likes anime and a guy who doesn't, I would most definitely choose the guy who likes anime. Even if he weren't as hot XD;

Do you get jealous when people are talking about anime or about your favorite character?

Are you kidding? I would be OVERJOYED if any of my in-real-life friends started to like anime. The only friends I have to talk about anime with are online, and it's just not the same :/

Copycats are annoying, though, I'll admit that. But usually a copycat is just someone whose trying to fit in or be accepted, they don't mean any harm. Think of it this way, the more people that are into your favorite animes, the better. That way you'll always have someone to discuss em with, etc.

Weird dreams

**DUDE I had the weirdest dream last night, and now I'm gonna describe the entire thing because I need more papers 8D ** I started off like I had just gotten back home from some weird trip, and all I can remember of that is driving on the highway and it was really dark. So I went up to my room, only it didn't look like my room, and there was this girl there. She was like, "Have you been getting my letters?" and I was all like o_O Uh no, because I had no idea who she was, but she started acting like we knew each other and were like great friends so I just went along with it out of confusion. And then she gave me ALL these clothes, expensive dresses and shirts and made me try them on in front of a big mirror. And then my mom starts calling from down the stairs that I need to go to my audition. I had no idea what audition she was talking about but suddenly the girl was gone, and I was like Okay hold on I have to change out of these clothes. So I changed out of the dress really quickly and then suddenly I was at this movie theater place, and I got pulled into this huge room with like a lot of stuff in it that I can't remember, all I remember was this long banquet table. And I sat down and all of a sudden the table was full. So then these two college boys go to the head of the table and start warning us about how we better follow the rules and not do anything wrong in the auditioning process, but I was really confused and had no idea still about wtf was going on. And I was afraid to ask because everyone else seemed to understand. So then one of the guys said to me, "Your first, go get in line," and I got pushed into this line that was going down the side of another table, and this one was set up for selling chocolate o_O And it was like I was supposed to buy chocolate. I actually don't even LIKE chocolate. I asked the girl behind me wtf the chocolate was for and she was like just buy a box. So I bought a box of chocolate that was shaped like a heart. And then I went out the doors and all of a sudden I was standing in the courtyard of my old highschool . I was like wtf. And the line was pushing me to go up the stairs into the mansion (my school was built on an old slave plantation and the main building is a mansion) but all of a sudden, the same girl from behind me in line who I now realize looks vaguely familiar but I just can't remember-- she was like this outline of someone I knew-- pulled me out of line and back towards another building, the one with the gym and a few classrooms. And we enter a classroom only it doesn't look like it's supposed to, it's empty except for a few little pieces of furniture and MY CAT. I started calling my cat's name, and then the girl went over to stand by the window and wouldn't look at me, so I was gonna call her name when I realized I didn't know what her name was, so I started calling my cat's name at her, and then she turned around and was like "That's not my name," and then I woke up! Damn xD

I had a really great 4th grade teacher that I'll never forget. He was funny and ... handsome xD Seriously, he was hot. All the girls had huge crushes on him. He was the person who got me into reading, like really got me into it. He told me to read "Where the Red Fern Grows"- def a book I'll never forget.

I'll never forget this one English teacher I had in highschool. He was very wacky. I was just CONSTANTLY laughing in this class, and for me, a person who sometimes finds it hard to smile, that's saying a lot. He just had a gift for making you smile. He was very infectuous, yknow? And also, he exposed me and the rest of the class to a lot of really avante garde type stuff... music and movies and books and poems I never woulda found otherwise. He really opened up my world.

I think I'm a pretty forgiving person. I don't hold grudges or treat people badly who have treated me badly. But at the same time, I don't really believe in forgiveness, per se. I think that forgiveness is just something people who have done bad things invented themselves to make themselves feel better. It doesn't make the person who was wronged feel better. Or at least, it doesn't make me feel better. I suppose because I;m just not a veyr angry person I can say that I don't hold grudges, but in a way I do. I kind of feel sad about things for a really long time. I have a hard time forgetting things.

What is wrong with YOU?

Yep, we all know it, everyone of us have something wrong, we are never perfect, having coming a long way from proto-sapiens like animals in evolution (creationist go bury yourselves please Kthnxbye) and that somewhere somehow we all have something there that just contrasts the nature we are taught at school, socially and verbally so. For example, I always speak in an accent, even though I have no such accent when I converse in Cantonese with my parents, I adopt accents as I visit countries and so on, learning from shows and whats not, my Mandarin Chinese now sounds a lot like Mainland Chinese, some of the mainlanders even recognized me as one of their own and assumed I was born in the motherland. I have a very fluent English english, and can literally so, blend in with british culture nearly seamlessly (although not so when I am a bit drunk which would have me speaking Russian style english A La Boris of Kremlim) I can also adapt myself to American english, which I am quite fond of using but has a strange "Aye." to it whenever I wanted to say "Yes, why not". I usually take my showers, with the door wide open, the shower box is closed of course, but generally, I take a dump with the door open. Not in public but generally, my family complains of foul smells in the house whenever I take the big Hiroshima bomb antic. I consider prayer something weird, but nevertheless, knows how to write entire scriptures of Buddhist Mantra by heart and can recite like it was a song lyric, which was strange as I hardly ever pray, except on Wesak Day (during May, celebrating Buddha's birth). I also tend to drink whisky with Stout, which when mixed together you get a flavorful stout that smells like a lot of malt has been mashed into some kind of wheat bread derirative. It has the taste of Aluminium, which is strange as that is what my friend said it tasted like, I taste it like it was a habit, it is hard to see me enjoy either without mixing it, which could really mean mixing it in my mouth with a gargle. There is definitely a whole of things that are wrong with me, so tell me, what is your wrong...? {i.e]s - ****in the sink - Speak gibberish and mumble - Doesn't watch "insert generic species/race" of "insert generic entertainment [porn etc]" - Has a tendency to jump around for no reason - Considers slapping the face as a "cool" movement regardless knowing that you have the marking of your palm on your face. - Drinks toilet water - Takes a bath and pees in the bathwater (or worse) - Eats cheese only if it is salted - Likes to smell freshly taken-off underwear (male or female self apply) - Has a fetish to put fingers into oneself's crevatures - Drinks tea or coffee lukewarm only - Licks cream off a cake for fear of getting more calories (but ends up eating it after finishing the cake) ____

Some of those are kinda... eww xD

Hmm. I like cold showers. I talk to myself when no one else is around... thinking out loud yknow? I also talk to my cat xD

I have some weird fetishes. I suppose I'm a bit of a masochist, which is very weird in itself... not altogether sane.

I don't like chocolate, candy, anything sweet really. And I only drink water. I'm a pretty picky eater.

I also have this weird thing about constantly needing to change things. I'm constantly rearranging furniture and shelves, just changing all sorts of things, because of get sick of things quickly.

I have my superstitious moments... when the mood is right to induce that kind of feeling.

But I'm a logical person and usually look at things logically. Most everything CAN be explained, if you look hard enough.

And if something can't be explained, I'm of the "let it be" philosophy. Long live the beatles xD I just say whatever. I suppose I'm a bit of an agnostic when it comes to superstitions. If the myths they concern are true, great. If they're not, that's fine too. Whatever.

I've read the autism theories and I must say, they make sense. There's always just the possibility that L was just a really smart, antisocial guy. Those people do exist. But some part of me doesn't feel right calling L antisocial... an antisocial person, or an autistic person for that matter, distances themself from others, but with L it sort of seems like he was just a naturally odd and awkward person who was distanced BY others for that reason. Dunno.

Hmm good question. I'd love to be able to make a difference... I try to, in little ways. I know I could do more though. It's selfish on my part, because when I lead my good life with plenty of food and luxuries, it's hard to think about children in Africa who don't even have clean water... I have resolved to do more though. I will.
