the background is nice, it's done really well but I agree with what most of the other people are saying, it's just too flat, you really need to create some depth in this wallpaper so it doesn't look so cut and paste, the concept is good but there are some things that need to be done, firstly you should remove the green cloth from the right side of light, i know why it's there but in this wallpaper it doesn't make sense, (this is probably because of the fact it is detached from the character it is interpreted as a separate entity)...the scan needs to be fixed, he needs to be darken so either muck around with the brightness/contrast or the levels (histogram). Also there's a lot of empty space (i don't know about you guys but to me it looks barren), it's needs some more stuff happening in the background...try adding some text or how about adding some cuts into the background like it's been split by a blade...
I hope this helps, good luck for the future!

This really needs a lot of work, especially if your considering submitting it me personally i think it's too simple, the pictures are good (however there are noticeable artifacts; if you like this picture and want to use it you should consider finding the same image but at a higher resolution) but it would be better if you extract the character from the picture in the right and place to the side (probably the left because of the leg, unless you want to mirror the image), move the text to the right and last but not least you really should make a background and tie it into the scan, try to relate them, add some depth, set the mood (in this case try go for a bright and sunny feel) and use the appropriate colors to enhance the feeling (try lighter colors, pastels would probably work nicely).
The most important thing you must remember when making a wallpaper is...a wallpaper needs to capture the person's interest.
