So basically this is just nothing more than a scan clean-up (rather uninteresting I have to say). To be honest, after watching the original scan, I gotta say that the clean-up this scan needed wasn’t really that much or that complicated to begin with. I can’t help but to wonder if there is more to this wallpaper than just that.

Anyhow, I think you should have done more to this than just clean it up. In the end, there is absolutely nothing here to be really critique. The art is neat though (kudos to the original artist that painted the whole thing).

Please write a better and more compelling description next time you decided to post a wall. What you have right now doesn’t cut it, description wise. Too short, not enough substance.

As mentioned, the BG looks like a prison rather than a school classroom, mainly because of the greyish colors and overall lighting. Just try to make things more vibrant next time. Also, be careful with perspective and size-distance relation between the character and objects that integrates the overall scene.

I don’t know about everyone else, but to me this wall still looks and feels exactly the same as any of your other previous walls. So, yea, I don’t think nothing has changed as far that goes. Colors and shading look the same (dull as ever, even for a zombie-girl), same type of scenic setting, rehash of elements, and same old type of composition, mood and concept.

This series supposed to be a romantic-comedy-drama. This wall doesn’t give me that vibe at all. I still think you should try new things far away from your usually stuff (I think this is the second time I’ve said that to you, but whatever). Just a friendly advice, that’s all. For example, for this particular image, an abstract concept would’ve worked a lot better than a full scenic one.

By the way, why do you always post sooo many versions when in reality 2 will be more than enough? I mean, if you look at them closely you’ll see that most of those version are basically unnecessary (for example, what’s the difference between version 1 and version 4? Basically none, ohh yea, there is one. The only difference I see is that the flower bed in one is a tad more vivid than the other one). Was it that necessary to make 2 versions only for that? I think not… just choose the one you think fits the scene more and toss the other one away).

One of the main problems I have with this is the overly blurred BG. In my opinion, for this shot in particular, a larger depth of field would’ve worked better than a small one. By using a shallow focus you’re losing a great portion of the image (besides the object at focus, of course). For matter fact, when I first saw this I didn’t really get any clear sense of depth between the FG (girl), MG (classroom middle section) and BG (classroom farthest section) at all.

I don’t think everything is coming together as nicely as they could as far that is concerned. Somehow I just feel that both, background and character, are somewhat disconnected with each other (no offense). Also, for some reason I feel that the overall lighting of the girl in relation with the BG is somewhat off.

Clean vector BG + Grainy looking character scan extraction = No

Unless you do something to try to make both of them work together by adding textures and whatnot, this type of combination you got going on here usually doesn’t flow well (at least not with me). The overall composition is somewhat decent though.

Clean vector character + photo-realistic BG photo = No

Overall lighting isn’t working either (for obvious reasons). For this type of style to work you would need to work a lot more with blending and color manipulation (for both, character and bg). By the way, the text looks rather crude and unnecessary.

Not bad. I think the colors of the girl could’ve been a tab more vibrant-darker in comparison to the background. Right now, the girl blends a bit too much within it, making the focal point of the wallpaper somewhat hard to fully appreciate. Also, some of the butterflies (the ones located on the sides of the background) look somewhat squashed to me.

Anyhow, overall you did a fairly good job with this…

LOL, I knew that already. As I said before, I just wrote all that for the heck of it, that’s all. Or did I do something wrong? Hey! I’m just here to have fun (and sometimes stating the obvious is just a small part of it). You gotta admit though, that many of the guys there might have not known that (the obvious, I mean), thus calling it words like “perfect” and “awesome”

Well, I’m not saying all your works are like that (which are not). Just this last one in particular. I just felt like writing that day and it just happened that your wall was the first thing I saw. Later!

It can’t get more “awesome” than this. A truly “masterpiece” of effortless work. But hey, what do I know about this stuff. Maybe there is more to it that meets the eye. I was born with a poor sight after all.

This is neither good nor bad. It’s just a quick extension of a scan with the addition and blending of some quick elements (and minor color adjustments). Yea, this effortless indeed. Great title, by the way.

In the end, I’m sure you just did this for the heck of it. So you can also say I wrote this for the same reason. So please don’t take what I wrote here personally. This is just a mere opinion. And so the wheel of life keeps spinning…

PS: I can’t believe how many people find this to be that great and whatnot. It makes be lose all hope in the future of mankind and wallpapers….. Ok, not really.

To be honest, to me all your wallpapers look and feel the same (same old, same old). Of course, this wouldn’t be a problem, if you didn’t make around 1-2 walls every week.

I just took a look that the scan this is based on and I gotta say that the scan looks way better (but that might be just me). For this wall in particular, there is no distinctive sense of depth (everything looks flat) and the overall colors are pretty muddy. Oh yea, I’m not sure, but I feel I seen some of the stuff in this wall in other of your walls before (déjà vu? maybe, maybe not).

My advice will be to slow down with the quick walling (yes, 1-2 wall per week is what I call quick walling, especially when you do it in a regular basis) and try experimenting with newer type of concepts and ideas. Good luck...

I’ve seen this concept on a wall already before. Here…. Let's live it up Coke-style!

Now, it’s hard not to compare both wallpapers when both of them are using the same exact idea. If compared, I gotta say that the wall from KHR nailed the concept-idea a lot better than yours. Don’t get me wrong, yours isn’t bad. It’s just doesn’t come as exciting as the other one. Maybe it’s the composition and arrangement of elements that aren’t doing it for me. Your overall composition has this very static feeling that I’m not feeling it’s working with this type of idea. The other problem would be the colors. Less black, more colors might’ve been a better way to approach this concept, in my opinion.

Well, sorry if this came out harsh. It’s just my opinion. I wish I could the like the other guys and say great things about it, but I just can’t. Especially after seeing the same concept used almost flawlessly before.

It’s always nice to see more wallpapers for this series. Not enough Mawaru love in this site. Simple or not, I like the concept, and I think that’s one of the main selling points of this piece. Well done.

Love it! It’s really nice to finally see a wallpaper for this series, especially one featuring some of the main characters.

Great job using some of the most iconic elements/symbols found on the series (apple, future diary, subway, etc) and putting them together into a single and well compelling scene. The overall idea behind it and composition it is just terrific. There is really a lot meaning behind this (the way they are facing back each other, the broken pieces, the string that tied them together, a painful past, a painful first love, etc). I also love the mere fact you decided to use the illustrations they put at the end of each episode instead of images from the actual episodes or scans (even though that would have been nice too). I always thought those images the put at the end were pretty neat.

It has been a while since I’ve changed by desktop wallpaper for something refreshing and with a lot of meaning behind it, not just pretty colors, characters and backgrounds...

Inori again? Doesn’t that series has any more characters besides her? Sheesh.... Overhype much. And here I thought Shuu and Gai were also part of the main characters.

The overall wallpaper is alright. Neither outstanding nor flawless, but it somewhat works. Not really feeling the whole “grunge style” though. To me it feels out of place with the character and the overall series context, but it doesn’t matter. It’s just a wallpaper after all. It doesn’t really have to connect with anything from the series (setting, theme, mood, etc). Although, I find those that do to be somewhat more interesting.

By the way, it’d be nice if next time you could write a more detail description of your work-process. At least something more compelling than 2 lines. That would make “critiquing” (or whatever you wanna call this) easier. Writing something like that shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes, really.

What would have made this better? No text, better blending (Ichigo + black smoke), no logo (Shinigami emblem) and a better description (idea + process).

I like the overall texture you used for the background. Sadly, it looks kinda blurry/low quality. I also prefer the version with the mask. The character stands out more that way, not to mention it makes the whole concept of your wallpapers somewhat more interesting.

I like the quote you used, but I can’t say the same for the rest of the wall. There is nothing in the background that really reflects the meaning of that quote. I see text on a picture of nocturnal-aerial view of some city, nothing more, and nothing less. I can’t say I see the relation between each other.

I’m glad you decided to share some of your personal stuff (really, I am), but I don’t think this piece in particular is working at all (at least to me it isn’t).

There a couple of things that I feel are bit unnecessary, like the scribble/pattern thing behind Ed’s back. There is also some misspelling on the word painful (you wrote “pinful”), but that’s an easy fix, and some visible jaggedness (or something) on Ed’s signature/text.

Not that bad, though. The overall composition is rather solid and the color combination in the background is somewhat nice.

It’s a nice concept and I like how you used different sources to create it. I especially like how you put the whole character together by using different scans. That’s quite neat. Composition and elements work fine within the theme of time space, which is good.

The two main things that are bothering me most are the overall effects (too much, too obvious) and overall color scheme (too muddy; green muddy). Also, it would have been neat if the light coming from within the opening portal was a bit stronger, purer and more alluring.

I think there is nothing in here that a merit any type of praising (much less a rating higher than A or S). But whatever… The only reason this is getting so high ratings is because of the image and the series it comes from, nothing more.

Besides cleaning it up and doing some minor adjustments to it, there is really nothing in this wallpaper to talk about (not noticeable-creative changes, not additions to speak of, etc). Really, you could have at least tried and play a little bit more with it by adding some DOF, FG derby objects (like ashes) or something.

Sorry if this comes as harsh (which I sure it will), but this is my honest opinion about it (no offense). Even if you did fine with the cleaning part and adjustments, there isn’t really anything here to be sugarcoated.

It’s a nice vector. Sadly, I can’t say the same about the background. Frankly, there isn’t really a background to speak of.

The sky, which makes up to about 80% of the wall, is rather empty and dull to look at. Clouds are hardly visible and they lack definition. The way the falling leaves were arranged feel somewhat unnatural, not to mention weird. Having them placed more randomly within the BG (and also FG) would’ve been better.

Now, you could’ve made the background less empty and more compelling by adding more trees in the distance (side by side; right and left), a couple of lampposts, some more falling leaves, etc. All these could’ve also helped the whole wallpaper in terms of depth, which right now is pretty much non-existent.

I do like the overall color scheme though.

Right now, the motion blurred bird that’s in front comes as distracting and rather flat. I supposed it was added to give the scene a better sense of depth and motion, but I don’t think that’s working (for the depth part at least).

The hair (far right section) could also have been motion blurred a tad too, so it could blend better with the whole motion thing that’s going on in the scene (with the birds and so).

You could also have tried to use some DOF on the background-city (not just on the birds) for a more and richer depth enhancement, not to mention a more realistic approach.

Not really a fan of text (here or anywhere), so I won’t heavily comment on that since you kindly gave a text-less version. Since this isn’t really a typography type of work, I’d say the less text, the better (a nice short quote should’ve done the trick better than what you have right now). Right now, the text just feels clustered to me.

I like the colors. I’m not really fond of the fact that Nami is sticking her tongue out though. A nice clean smile (without the tongue) would have sufficed me. I also don’t like how Nami is dividing the scene into 2 halves. Slightly moving her down so her head doesn’t get cut off by the top would’ve made of a stronger composition, not to mention nicer looking. All in all, it’s a solid wallpaper and not bad for you first time painting.
