Note on Ethics
Whilst we are all fully aware this is the internet, and when it comes down to it, the scans, walls and images uploaded here are in no way the 'property' of those uploading them, we thought it was best to start with a brief statement about the ethics that underpin this section.
It is our intention to allow our users the access to the best scans that allow them to make the best walls they are able. As part of this, we offer the facility for those users who wish to to upload Vectors and Re-cg's they have made.
It is our promise, then, that we only permit vectors created by the users themselves. This is not 4chan, we don not want floods of other people's work. We only want Vectors and Re-cg's from people who are genuinely proud of the work they have done, not uploads from people just after points.
As such, if a vector violates any of the rules given below, please do report them.
However, we also like to feel we have something for all wallers of all abilities, and that is why, in exchange for keeping the above promise, we insist that the Vectors and Re-cg's uploaded here must be of a very high standard and easily usable by all wallers.
What Are Vectors and Re-cg's
For the purposes of submission here at AP a vector is any image where someone has traced the lines of an existing scan to produce a cleaner, sharper version that can be more easily used in a wall. The result will also often be enlarged, again to facilitate walling at higher resolution.
This is slightly different to a re-cg. As far as AP is concerned, a re-cg is where you correct some error or problem on a scan, such as fix a page-fold or fill in the image where it was covered by a text box. Note that otherwise, the scan is generally left as-is.
The exact methods and programs used for doing either of these are not specifically important; what matters more is that the quality and usability of what you have produced is a genuine and significant improvement.
Submitting Vectors and Re-cg's
If you would like to submit YOUR vectors or re-cg's, we would be happy to accept them into the scan gallery.
You cannot submit vectors and re-cg's that are not specifically your work. Even if you obtain permission, if it isn't yours and this isn't clear, it will be deleted.
Please do remember, this means you are allowing other users to download your work and use it in making wallpapers. You should therefore add some form of signature to the image itself and indicate terms of use in the description. More details can be found below.
Submitting a Vector
When submitting a vector, it must comply with the following rules:
1. The vector must, at the least, be easily extractable by a novice user. The best way of achieving this is to output the vector as a png file. If a jpg must be submitted, please ensure a solid, uniform color that can be easily highlighted and removed.
2. The minimum character height for any character within the vector must be at least 2,000 pixels high. If the character is lying down, or otherwise horizontally orientated, the minimum width must be at least 3,000 pixels wide. This is because all wallpaper resolutions are wider than they are long.
3. The image must be high quality. This means, it should not have any visible artifacts, or other image quality problems. Please be aware of the maximum file sizes, and learn to use photoshop's 'Save for Web' functionality, or equivalent. Vector line work should be well done and comparable to the line work on the scan. Vectors that use stroked paths will not be accepted.
4. The vector must be your own work. This point cannot be emphasized enough. You cannot submit other people's vectors. Anyone found doing so will be banned. More details can be found in the section below entitled What are Sigs and ToU's?.
5. The description should contain a statement on terms of use. What this says is up to you, but more information can be found in the section below entitled What are Sigs and ToU's?.
Submitting a Re-cg
The rules are a little different for Re-cg's:
1. The Re-cg must represent a genuine and significant improvement. If a mod or admin judges your vector to not be any better than the original, it will be rejected or deleted.
2. Your description must indicate that what you are submitting is a Re-cg, not a scan. You must also link to the original scan if it is contained in AP's gallery. Note that your upload is not a replacement for the existing scan, it is an alternate version--remember, some people may still want to do their own re-cg.
3. You can only submit your own Re-cg's. The statement that it is your own work must be in description. Anyone found submitting other people's re-cg's will be banned.
What Are Sigs and ToU's?
A Sig is simply your signature, and the same basic principles apply as they do for walls. At minimum, a sig must indicate either your username at AP, your real name and/or your website url. You should also ensure that whatever you put on the vector as a sig must be clear when looking at your userpage.
If you have multiple usernames, or multiple websites and your sigs do not specifically match your AP account, this must be explained in your description. Where it is not, do not be surprised if the image is removed.
Terms of use are any condition you wish to apply to the use of your vector. This can be anything, but often includes requesting that the person includes a credit and/or link to your site and that the piece is not used in any commercial work. Please be specific on your terms of use to avoid misinterpretation on the part of the waller using your submissions.
Note also, that we are just as happy for you to say there are no terms of use as we are for you to restrict the usage. However, you should bare two points in mind:
1. You are uploading to a public website, and you should be aware people may not comply with them. Therefore, putting lots of restrictions may not have any affect. This is also why it is important to ensure your work has a sig.
2. The only restriction you cannot apply is that people can't freely use the image in a wall. You can ask for credit, or a link-back or whatever, but this facility is being offer solely to provide other users with walling material--if you say they can't use it in a wall, or that you need to "approve" the wall, this renders your upload redundant, and it will be removed.
