As an animation, Bakemonogatari has a simple, clean art style. But the guest illustrations for the series are anything but simple! So, it's great to see that °Tens took on a more complex illustration and made it his own with vector gradients so fine at points it more resembles painting that vectoring. Do have a look at this beautiful wallpaper!

Hi there, this is the first part of a drawing that I'm working on, the girl is Asahina Mikuru of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya series (she's such an adorable character ^_^). I tried to base her off of the original Novel illustrations rather than the anime series because i am a HUGE fan of the artist, Ito Noizi sensei, but i think i failed fairly bad at that. (>.<
)anyways, this is the rest of the picture. if you don't get the reference, Mikuru-chan is a time traveler from the future, and its never clear how she does that, so this is my interpretation. (the car is a time machine for those that never watched the back to the future series) talk about a clash between Japanese and American Geek-ness. XD Also, the car was drawn separately and shopped together, hopefully i can get them to look more natural together once the colors are in.

Super Edit:
an extraordinarily early coloring attempt. >.> i am lacking serious motivation to get this finished because i have a wallpaper i want to start on and im toying with the idea of starting a comic. ^_^ (that and its spring break and i want to sleep for 4 days straight.) anyways, i fixed up mikuru-chan's hair and clothing here and there, now plz help me on the shading, i am having major trouble on the car. -_-

Well since you are still working on it I can't really comment much since there may be erronous things there that may be actually unfinished details. Except for one thing. The clothing ruffles and folds. Even if you did spawn that idea from your head you should still be able to translate its workings to the body of its wearer and therefore you need practice there. Oh and um the hair... its quite hard... Are you sure its like that? Or you just not done with it yet?

Pretty cute so far. The position is very Mikuru! The hair seems a bit thin, and the eyes of course have to be detailed. But keep working on it! Id like to see it when its done.

oh no, i must have worded my post wrong. >.< sry! wut i meant to say is that she is part of a larger picture, and the finished lineart (drawn, cleaned, inked) for her is seen here. the only adjustments i can do now is in PS, and since i lack a tablet, the adjustments have to be fairly simple. Basically, this is very close to my intended finished product (for her part)
this is my first real attempt at drawing clothing by myself, and yeah, they are quite bad. I wanted the wrinkles to be guidelines for when i color in the shades, but even then it looks quite weird. I have a lot of trouble trying to show the shapes underneath clothes, definitely needs more practice. >.>

Thank you! :D yeah i tried to show off Mikuru's personality as much as i can here. I purposely tried to thin out her hair for coloring, but im not so sure about that now. >.>

Thank you both for your comments and critiques. you guys pointed out some things i never even bothered to think about. XD Hopefully i can fix her up more while im coloring.

I do agree the clothes are a bit off, but that can be a hard thing to perfect, you really just need to practice more. It should come more natural over time.

Otherwise, it's not a bad start. Copying another artist's style is a good way to learn. Though I hope that if you continue drawing, you'll decide to develop your own personal style in the future, if you ever decide to branch out and venture into original sketches. :)

Mm! It's actually pretty gmood! Well, Since the picture is big, i can still see the lines by ink is not that smooth, but i guess you can fix that when coloring it... Well, post the colored version soon!

Need to make the car shiney >_< um well most of it you got so so but the biggest problem is you need more values in ... all the colors. not just two or three but a crapload. Also cars are shiney so they have highlights where light is the brightest white (or clossest to) oh and windows need her reflection. So far so good
