Family Guy and simpsons are anime?? whaaaaa?
I might be a little slow but for those not in the 'know' Family Guy and The Simpsons are drawn in Korea. So do you think that makes them animes? Put in your two cents.

No way!! I refuse to claim those two shows as being anime. The style is nothing even close to anime even if they are drawn in Korea. I hate the Simpsons, I think it's one of the dumbest shows ever created. Family Guy is funny though. Even if they are drawn in Korea that does not make them anime. If you want to consider a cartoon that's close to anime I would say Avatar The last Airbender but definitely not those two. There's more to anime than simply being drawn in an Asian country.
According to wikipedia on the word anime: "The term most popularly refers to animation originating in Japan". I agree. I also don't think where the grunt work is done for the show should matter in terms of where the show comes from. It's written, designed, and made for US audiences. It's not anime. It's an animated sitcom.
I despise those two shows. The fact that NONE of the characters follow anime styling OR propportions makes them not anime. Besides, even if they were, I'd still deny it.

Alright, I agree that they're not anime because their audience is to a more American style audience, but that doesn't make them bad shows. I've watched Simpsons since I was about 5 and it's a classic. If you don't like Simpsons or Family Guy you guys just don't appreciate intellectual humor.

I agree i mean come on if you cant relate to at least one pop-culture joke in any episode, then your funny bone must have been surgically been removed in your sleep. but you're entitled to your opinion. Just because you hate it doesnt mean its still even more popular than any anime at the moment (family guy is being broadcasted in 23 channels in 16 countries) in my mind i consider it anime :P

Well the term 'anime' is just the French word for animated (I think), so technically, any cartoon can be an anime hahah... but since we prefer to call Japanese cartoons 'anime' then... The Simpsons (which I love) is targeted to America mostly so... I don't think it's the same as anime. I love how The Simpsons throws in little hints of current moral wrongdoings lol.

Well, it really about the style rather than where the show is drawn. I mean, story and characterisation is totally unlike traditional anime styles. I mean if you draw in a Manga style in say America its still manga and not a Graphic Novel. in amy case, family guy and The Sompsons are purely american i can't say for sure it has any influence interms of story and character style from the koreans. I mean Spongebob can be drawn by anyone trained to. So can a Gundam.
No way is The Simpsons or Family Guy an anime. Where that heck gave you that idea?! Those cartoons are made for american audiences. It had no way close the animation style that anime uses.

Eww simpsons an anime?.. Yuck. I don't like the show. And it is orientated at the more American Public. Also anime is mostly from Japan.
You might be able to deny that it's funny but there's as much "smart" content in the simpsons as a lot of these pretentious anime that come out.
would you guys consider afro samurai and the boondocks to be anime? they're american shows but gonzo and madhouse studies help work on them respectively. the drawing style has a lot of anime elements but they are also "made for american audiences."

Although a lot of anime are made partially by Koreans, they are made intended for a Japanese audience. Simpsons and Family Guy are not.
Still, it does make me kind of sad that yet again America has to rely on another country to provide entertainment for us. It can't come up with anything interesting itself anymore...
