Have you ever had your grandparents over and they babysat you... then they stuff you with food.. and you dont' mean to be impolite but you can't possibly finish the amount they give you...
sigh.. i love my grandparents... but i cna't stand the akward silences...and weird moment when they speak a completely different langauge that you don't understnad...
Anyone feel the same here?

It was more of the other way around for me. I'd cook for myself and my granny would eat it. Sometimes she'd grab stuff off my plate without asking.
and i'm the only one in my family that can't speak filipino... so 2 flips in a room and i'm all o_o

Yeahhh i had that "problem" when my grandma was here. she can't speak english so she used to wait for us to get home so we could eat. and then it's not as good as it used to be (old age i suppose), but you know she waited ALL day for you to eat it... so you just eat it. i can speak taiwanese so she would just tell me stories of her past (which seems to change every time). x_x
Thankfully, being british means theres always something to argue about with grandparents... in our own language (thank God for lingustic ignorance!), especially when they live with you :faint:
Luckily my grandparents live in a different state. So I only visit them during Chinese New Year and maybe once or twice on non-festive holidays.
I'm not too close with my grandparents anyway.

It's weird.. we don't talk much cos English is their second language and I don't see them so much these days but we have an understanding O_o Hard to explain but that's how family relations can be some times.

I don't see my grandparents too often. We barely talk too.
How does being British make for many arguments with grandparents?

Understand completely. Grandparents are from old old asian cultures and they have no idea what it is like here in the US. I do not know how to behave around them to be polite and respectful so I sort of wing it... :faint:
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't... but the food they make is always good :3

For me, there's no problem in communication when it comes to language as I understand and speak the language that my grandparents speak. But then again, I never really know what to say to them so there's usually some akward silence. <!--emo&:lol:--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' /><!--endemo-->

My grandparents are Chinese, but I can understand most of what they say. But the good thing about having grandparents that don't understand English is that you can invite your friends over and say whatever you want without them knowing what you said. My grandmother always cooks for my family, but I really don't like the food they make (and they sometimes over-estimate my appetite).

I use to be really close to my grandparents since when I was eight I guess...but we sorta moved apart over the 5 years I came to Canada. They visited once...I guess they sorta nag you to do stuff and they ALWAYS try to make you eat. Your stomache will feel quite full once you have 4 meals a day. Though, when I got to China this summer...I can ask them for anything and they'll buy it! YAY!

Yes, my grandparents have a tendency to stuff me with food. ^^;;;
For me it's only awkward when they talk to me about something and I cannot understand them because they use a dialect and well, they mumble a bit. So I just nod my head and say yes, yes, no, no. ^^;;;;

I dunno. I never get bored when I'm with my grandparents. But that could be because they live out of the country and everything's exciting when you're on the other side of the world. I know I always love going with them to get food just because they get everything fresh - really a different kind of experience. I spend so much time wandering around their place, just because I go there maybe once every four years. Of course, when I'm with my grandparents, there's always a lot to catch up about. Or else we're watching TV :3 They have good taste in TV shows XD Or maybe I just have bad taste. But usually I'm only over for a short time so I'm constantly going other places. I love visiting my grandparents <!--emo&:)--><img src='style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> Plus I get to see the rest of my family too - I never see them either ;o;
