- extraction job needs more effort (a lot)
- the background looks kind of blurry
great quality scan btw

The background is supposed to look blurry, it covers up the fact that its a picture of a real sakura tree.
And I don't see where you're coming from with the extraction, Any particular place where it needs work, cause I went over that image at 600 percent and fixed it by hand after I did the initial exraction.
And if you look at the original file (Its an AP Scan http://www.animepaper.net/scans/Ai-Yori-Aoshi/entry16425/ ), I don't see any problems.
Thanx for the comment on the Scan Quality. I'm better at Cleaning images then anything else.

I know what you wanted to do with blurring the bg so that it wouldn't be too realistic...compared to the char...because realistic and not realistic doesn't really match...and sorta the same with it now..how blurry soft look doesn't really match with the char's solid one...maybe you overblurred it a bit =x? iuno..or draw your own solid looking sakura tree to match your solid looking char xD?
This looks great. But anything has room for improvements...;)
Sakura are generally bright and cheerful things, but your picture seems kind of dark. I guess you used a few multipled layers? The original scan doesn't look quite as dark...I suggest you use screen effects instead of multiple. (unless you don't you photoshop and you have no idea what the heck I'm saying. O_o)
I know this may sound cheesy...but...
Ever considered Sakura petals floating around in the background? XDXD
Usually when people use Sakura trees as backgrounds, there are usually flying petals. You don't have to have it raining down O_O Just a few ones here and there might help too, and let's face it, they aren't hard to make.

You wanted the bg blurred to create a sense of depth.. You dont really have one because of the character's shadowing.. Look at the umbrella.. That shadow comes out of nowhere... What you should do is do a lighting effect on the bg as well...
Like everyone else said, the background needs improvement...aside from that, however, I'd suggest you take out the text. The text is the major killer of this beautiful wall...it just doesn't match at all X_x
There's some blotchy unevenness to her blue kimono, which needs fixing with some quick reCG work. I'm not too sure about the ambient lighting feeling - it looks like a badly exposed photo with the washed out lighting coming through the trees, not to mention the background shadows and such suggest an upper right light source but Aoi appears lit from the upper left. That can't really have much done about it considering the composition of the background photo - but mabye you could trick the eye by using some sort of shaft-of-light effect coming through the trees in the appropriate direction to fall on Aoi? The text definitely needs thought too :0

Actually, concidering that the light its coming from the upper left hand side of the wallpaper, the shadow is in the right place.
As for the tree not being the right colors, I hate to burst your bubble, but Cherry blossoms are a light pink, like in the image.

Yes, I did, I tried about 7 or 8 different brushes, but I couldn't get it to look right with the background.

I'll take that into concideration.
I do have plans to add a "Canvas" texture to the background image to help "Flatten" it so that fits more with scan.
No the wall is just brighter on the left because light breaks through in between the leaves... The light is actually coming from ABOVE shining down and the way her umbrella is tilted would not have that shadow effect... Thered actually should be more shadow.. @@ The whole thing and perspective is confusing @_@ The way the light hits the umbrella makes it look as if its coming horizontally...

Have you tried using the filter paint daubs instead of simply blurring the BG. I'm not sure what effect it would have on the original photo you used but try it.
I'm staying out of the shadowing issue, my opinion's not needed :)
As for a texture try brushing one on and using the blending options instead of adding a standard issue photoshop canvas effect, you can get some unique and surprising results.
I think the first comment about you extraction is due to the small bumps around the edges of the umbrella, which do look like bad extraction. I know they are part of the picture, but perhaps the whole image could look better without them - and would appear to neaten your 'extraction'.
