where are the heroes
I live in a small town in Oklahoma that is been plagued with corruption over the past 10 years I guess. There are shootings every night and really bad drugs and gangs and the cops are not doing anything. When I have called or others have called them to report people breaking in to houses or other crimes, they come by and shake the hand of the criminals and drive off. They rarely stop the killings and gang activity and they dont don anything about the drugs. They harrass the good citizens by pulling them over for seat belt violations while just letting criminals seel drugs under thier noses. I have only lived here going on 4 years and the only thing I can think to do is sell my house and move. Now people have to take things into thier own hands because the cops wont do antying and they are treated even more brutally then the gansters, like the little old lady that shot a drunk son in law that was breaking into her house to kill her and her family-he didnt die but was wounded and she is going to prison and he got no jail time at all. The powerful people of the city dont care because either they are part of the drug selling population by getting rich off the gangs or they are living in secluded parts of the city that the gangs cant get into. This is a city of only 60,000-so I ask--in the cities that you live in, if you cant depend on the cops and people that take matters into thier own hands are locked away, then who do you turn to? Why are the only heroes that fight for juctice and end corruption only a work of fiction? I know it is naive but sometimes I wish I had some super power to stay under the radar so to speak so I could go out and rid cities like this of the scum-but I know that would be impossible especially if the police department is as corrupt as the criminals. It is getting to where citizens are more afraid of the police unit going down the street then the gang cars with the guns hanging out of them. We keep our doors locked at all times and are afraid to sit out on our porches at night.
If you really don't want to move and the police will not help, try contacting one of your government officials and see if they can't get the national guard or something.
Also this is a more extreme suggestion and would need some more thought behind it but, you could try forming a militia to clean up the town.

I live in a place called the world. It is also plagued with corruption for more than 5000 years. The thing is that there are no heroes. Sadly enough. If your looking for a figure to come and magically clean away your issues well, this ain't the place. Nothings going to happen if you wish for it to change.
Oh to the post above, national guard won't deal unless local government gives them an ok. Militias are illegal though you are allowed to carry personal firearms. Though we did use militias to free ourselves from British rule, it is also called an uprising which isn't really nice sounding to a government.
Solution? Try media. Everyone hates media but everyone watches it. Also, you might have something called a governor which you elect. You might want to talk to him. If you have internet, you should be able to figure something. If you even bother to waste your time on this board, shouldn't you be trying other more relable sources for answers...

Yeah I have gone to the media and they didnt want to get involved--I also talked to the DA and other judges as well as a friend that I have that is pretty high up in a national policing agency. They basically also did not have any answers and seemed hesitant to have an opinion. As far as guns go, our local DA has already shot down the "stand your ground law" and the person involved is going to have to keep taking it to higher courts while she wastes away in prison. I realize corruption is everywhere and the world is a bad place with things getting worse and worse every day. I guess I was wondering how apathetic people have really gotten to just be satisfied with this. I realize that this town (and probably a lot more) is apathetic and people would rather just live thier day to day lives and clean the messes up as they occur rather that expel the energy to change things like a hero would. But you are right in saying this is a world issue and I know this all too well--I just thought if one town could be cleaned up, that would start something and perhaps gives others the idea as well. Oh and--Our national guard is overseas fighting someone else's corruption now.
I really suggest abandoning the shit hole.
why deal with shit when your hands are gonna get dirty, why even live in such a place in the first place, there are places, like a third world country like India, that is even safer than the above place you say.
There are places of greater opportunity, let the dogs bite their own, it is none of your business and no one is gonna blame you for abandoning this shit hole of a place, even if it is the land you are born and raise in, you won't want to die in this forsaken place.

Now I wonder why would the national guard would go and fix other country's corruption while their own country is in a deep hole like that?
My country isn't even better, nearly the same. The cops are all money-face. As long as you pay them, they'll let you go, unless a lot of people are pressuring them. I also can't beleive how corrupted the judges at my country are, they free terrorists and murderers so they can be like 'heroes' and get a lot of cash. Really, you can't even differentiate the wrongs and the rights in this difficult era. Someone, everything has been 'up-sided down'
If anyone wants to stop this madness, he/she must be someone really strict. Not just average ones, but the real judge. I know this story about a judge, who execute even a petty guy who took a gold coin from his workplace. The guy complained why would he be executed only for a small coin? So, the judge told him,"If I let you go now and yet you continued to steal, in 1000 days there will be 1000 coins. Even a stone will break if water keeps dropping on it" and the judge personally cut the criminal's head. You might say he's brutal, but this way he has stop a future great corrupter.

Thye say there is less crime in countries that cut off the hands of the offenders that steal but I am not sure this is a good thing to do because then not only can they not get a normal job that requires both hands but I dont think that more violence is necessarily the best thing. Yes the 'hero" can kill the bad guys and not even blink but then the bad guys feel like they have to be more and more violent. Personally I think I would just shoot them but then againthat is why I am not a hero because the real heroes can stop the problem without killing--or so it seems in the comic book world. In reality I dont know if this is possible any longer to use brite force rather than death. I guess my problem with killing every criminal is that it takes away their chance to do some good in this world and some actually do but the other side of that is it may prevent them from doing something worse--since we cant see the future you dont know if letting the man get by with driving drunk once will straighten him out and he will stop or if he will continue and kill someone. Unfortunately the prison systme often makes people ten times worse then they were when they went in so there is no winning really. I guess it s a new spin on an old saying "buy the man a fish and he will eat that day " but teach the man to fish and he may stab you in the back with your fish knife and take your wallet anyway :).
You know i don't think violence has anything specifically to do with your country.. i live in a city roughly the same size as your's and a mugging can make the front page because it just doesn't happen here.. if you don't like your city do your homework and move somewhere that doesn't have those kinds of problems.. a city doesn't mean the whole country is that way..

Hmph. If you ever find that there is something to hate, hate humanity. Hate every single thing that it has done, for we humans should, not, do not belong here on earth. We have started as simple minded creatures, with barely the ability to build a fire, and now look what we have done. We have destroyed this planet, drained its resources, killed the nature, and produced despicable things. Yes, we advance in technologies, we educate, but know this: as humans are, with emotions, intelligence, we create and act on temptations. When there is something that we desire, we will go through all means to get to it. Yes, if you look optimistically towards some things, some of the people resist, hold on a bit longer to the righteousness of belief. How long does something like that last? We are beings of temptations. As we produce mroe and more humans, our corruptions, plagues, diseases, and evils infect more and more. There are no heroes in this world, nobody can do anything. We have contaminated this Earth for too long, and no amount of washing will save it. Give up already, you will not receive help, just mvoe away from that horrid place.
I live in a country that has deteriorated in terms of security. We've got more crimes than ever, and the people in charge have been corrupted with the power that they've possessed. People who have been caught as murderers are free in the coming week, while people who steal a loaf of bread are put for 6 months in jail...not logical...
If you want a hero you cannot wait, you must stand up and be the hero or part of the movement. Here we're slowly regaining the tranquility that was the country before, slowly we're removing from power the corrupt people, and cleaning the streets of the pests that are the rapists, murderers and thieves.
Why did it get like this? Because people simple 'waited for a saviour to come'. Only now do we, (the young adult generation) understand that that saviour won't come, and it's up to us to do the change. We may not be successful, but if we manage to be the incentive for the younger generation to continue the move then we're confident we can bring order back to this place that we love so much.
I agree with DistortionL05 there. Although the law should be handled by proper law trained personel there are times when the normal citizen has to take action. You must take action in any way possible, contact authorities, create movements or do the dirty work yourself.
I disagree with you Silenced. To move away is to simply let the issue manifest there and later spread to wherever you go, you must fight, humans indeed are the cruelest and most pitiful creatures on the earth, but it's also humans that know how to fight in the face of adversity. If you surrender then what's the point of living if later the corrupt world will spread wherever you go?

Is there any way to invite officers from another province or city over to monitor your area for a time? They might have to go undercover, but if they see rampant crimes and police being bought off like you said, they could probably take more effective action than what average citizens are capable of.

*glomps*
I'm being ignored!
