How do you feel about heavy metal as theme songs in animes? I think its a kick ass idea personally since noone dares to try it, Except for death note. But then again death note is one of the few animes that can sport a heavy metal theme song. There are some others i wish that had some heavy metal themesongs like Blood, and trinity blood, and baslisk and maybe even Elfin Lied :)

Agreed.. a bit overboard with the OP... the first time I heard it I really couldn't call it music. And why the heck is there so much swearing, haha.

The ED is alright though... a lot more decent than the OP.

I've been a metalhead since 1980, but the new black metal that is all the rage is cacophony, IMO (I have an extensive metal collection in all genres). Sporky's list of metal groups contains some of the most talented musicians in the world regardless of musical type, so its somewhat of an apples-oranges comparison--FEW could ever achieve the music composition talent of those groups.

Personally, the best OP's I've ever heard have been in the psytrance/techno genre such as Juno Reactor's "Guardian Angel" for Texhnolyze (I listened to the original track every day for 40 days) and MELL's "Red Fraction" for Black Lagoon.

PS: The new OP is more "thrash" or "grindcore" than true heavy metal. Bad mix of punk elements also.

Yeah this discussion was also in my IRC channel. We were like omfgwtf is this OP?! Well to be honest, its okay...i do like thrashing and whatnot but not for an anime OP i guess.

Plus the way they made the video made it look a bit wierd. Its as if death note is like some kind of weird gothic? punk? anime.

But its cool since the story is finally getting intresting once more

If it works, it works. I personally don't mind. I think it works well for Death Note. Actually, in addition to Death Note I think any action based anime can use some heavy metal music.

Actually yeah since in manga the series does take a ton of twists and turns and gets quite insane... which makes it THAT damn good - the first half of the series is nothing. I don't know of the anime will portray the intelligence and thinking that the characters will brew up well enough like the manga did.

Anyway, as for the OP and ed... I dug a bit more into the ED and I sort of found some interesting stuff on youtube... and then I came to appreciate the ED more. (the OP sux, haha) You guys should check it out.

Wow umm... allright so youre saying heavy gutiar strumming, super fast drum beating (in excess of 180 beats per minute), and killing your throat (i.e. screaming nonstop for 3 minutes). oh and those millions of fans (albeit sorta creepy fans)of the genre are not listening to music at all.

and the music dying all over the world... its obvious you didint understand what i was trying to say. its painfully obvious youre not from america, all across america school districts are trying to cancel music programs. Throughout the world cultural music is slowly dying out in replace of top 40 pop music. Pop is short for popular music you once sided ninny.
