Why people says "Anime is for only children"?
Beacuse its cartoon and they think its for younger peoples just because it looks like a cartoon they dont consider the story line and stuff and sometimes i just hate it when my friends say i watch cartoon and i say its Anime japanese cartoons but yeah sometimes it just gets anoying

It's really not that hard to understand why. I mean when you look at what they show in the morning before school for little kids, like Beyblade, Yugioh, Pokemon (and to a lesser extent dragonball z series) alongside the american cartoon shows. So when they see animation they usually assume its just kids stuff (of course it doesnt help your case if you are watching those shows half the time too :p)
But of course if you watch more anime that is more serious/aimed at older people then it might help your case, but generally all animation has the stigma of being for kids as well thats what they are generally for most of the time and what people have grown up with, specially with shows like Looney Toons and so forth

I don't know if in your country is the same, but here in italy, people says that anime (they don't make difference between anime and cartoon) is for children.
For exemple, they say me that i am too "old" for spend my time reading manga and watching anime. everybody say that: from teacher to friends...
what do you think about?

Let him watch Noir, or some stuff like it and most of your people would no longer say anime is for children (of course dont be so crude or they will start saying that anime is for perverted people).
PD: of course if you're watching something like Digicharat I would have to be agree with the other guys...
People automatically assume what anime is becuase of its appearance. What they don't realize are the complex plots, character development and the list gets longer. I've seen a lot of morbid animes that deal with complex topics that are not meant for kids to see. I don't see how all animes are only suited for children. They problaby misjudged it becuase of the cute "adorable" eyes.
That makes me so mad though. Whenever I tell my friends I watch animes, some would say, "You're not a kid anymore. Grow up and watch The O.C. or something." When I tell them I'm watching morbid/dark animes, they still wouldn't believe me. So I show them 'Trinity Blood,' and now they're loving it. See how easily people misjudge things because of the appearance? *sighs*

My brother in law say anime is for children, but i dont care i watch them anyways ^^.

It's the same in the US. If you're watching anime, people always say that "You're in college, but you still watch anime?" They immediately think that any animated show is for children. It's not just Italy. In general, the mentality of society is that if it isn't live action then it's for children. It's more of a Western societal issue. They cannot understand, or are not willing to look further into the world of anime. It's been pounded into their heads, courtesy of Saturday morning cartoons, that all animated shows are only for kids. I'd like to see a kid understand the story of Samurai Gun... But that's how this society views this, and there's no real way to change it. It's sad, I know, but it can't be helped.

speak frankly,anime is similiar to film, but the actor or actress isn't a real people, and that's WHERE the power of anime,,we can make many amazing-fantasy stories without being blocked by the limit of human's act or things...

I think y\that you're never too old to watch anime or to read manga. The people who say otherwise just don't get anime and manga.

There is a simple term to describe this syndrome. Close-minded. There is no way to get around it. We all have something we are close minded about most likely, whether we realize or not. For many people its impossible to view animation as anything but a children's art medium. Sad, they are missing out on a huge part of OUR lives here on this forum hahaha.

Because it can be childish. It sometimes makes me embarrased to read manga at school, so I don't do it a lot. But it's true, it can't be childish and immature and is probably a waste of our time, but who cares? :) I'll continue reading no matter what!
