It is sadly all about money, and sometimes people want to see attractive people doing it and are willing to pay for it. It can be said that they portray a real part of life that does occur, and sometimes actually do drive the plot of a film, but for the most part though, if the scene is particularly explicit, it is to get people to see the movie despite probably a whole lot of bad aspects of the film. Can anyone say "Basic Instinct 2?"

One believes it is there as an insurance for the moviemakers, afterall most humans in this planet are men and most of them are per**rts. Being honest to oneself, include me, however, one doesn't watch movies due to it's scenes, rather by its story.
I think love is a part of living and if you cant handle seeing it then what the hell are you doing? love is a good thing not a bad thing

If only how to represent the spirit of a movie, the sex scenes are not necessary at all in my opinion. But it can fit the interesting of some people. The number of such people is often not small. So to attract these guys, the companies making movies will add these useless scenes. If you don't like, drag the time bar to pass it. I always do like this.
I think sex can be seen from different angles. Some thing of it as uneeded, but others could look at it as a wonderful thing.
Hmmm.. Sometimes it will needed in anime or movie! Some romantic anime or movie, really need it! But don't show the sex act to much! That will make the movie or anime seems just for 20+ years old!
I kinda find it annoying especially when i am watching a movie with a guy...it's so werid...he would look at me, and i would look at him, and we quickly turn our heads...i mean, kissing is good, but, actually sex scences are not really needed

Hahah, thats cause you probably never had sex. You think different when you grow up and mature. Some say watching sex scenes get them inspired for sex.
Nope its not necessary, unless if it has to do a lot with the plot. like match point.
They are on the whole unessesary (sry for my bad spelling skills), but in like Lethal Weapon 2 the sex scene didnt bother me, cause it felt like it fitted whit the story, It all depends on how you make it.
MUAHAHHAHAHAHHA VEGA HERE IM NEW. But when i saw the words SEX i couldnt help but to jump right on in. Hey personoly i love the sex scenes. and yes i am a pervert well maybee not i just love girls and sex. It seems like no one else here really likes it. If its Hardcore stuff i cant say i like it but when its something a little more sexy then i like.

Sex grabs your attention whether or not you're enjoying the scene which is being played out or if you're disgusted by what's going on...It's very difficult to find someone who simply doesn't care either way. So of course from the producer and director's point of view sex scenes are most definitley necesary because you need a hook to lure people in.
From another viewpoint you have to understand that sex is as much of a part of life as anything else you would find in a good movie, so to leave it out would be like leaving out showing people eating or sleeping...It's completley natural and helps human well-being. Unless, of course, the director wants to leave sex out of the movie in order to make a statement about being deprived, or something similar.
I think randomly tacked in sex scenes are gratiutous and unecesary, but other than that I don't think that they lack a place in our cinema.

Sex is icky...:(
It's completely unnecessary. bleh. Even in romance movies, they really don't need to get into it like that. I mean..jeez. I was watching the Notebook and I was flipping back and forth because I didn't really want my bro. to think I was watching a chick flick and I flipped and all of a sudden they were going hardcore. If it wasn't for the lack of lighting it would have been pretty hard core anyways. I don't like it!! :(
