I've recently been getting into foreign films lately and asian ones are my favorate =D

My favorates that i have seen so far are:

Bird People in China - I just saw it yesterday and its a wonderful movie about a yakuza and a gem scout discovering a very old fashioned village

Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (or simply put the Revenge Trilogy) - Great movies if you want to watch films about getting revenge as well as their reasons

Blue Spring - Bleak story about the troubled youth in a Japanese high school dealing with society and their peers

9 Souls - intense movie about 9 escaped prisoners on a journey for redemption

They are all amazing movies that deal with the human emotion!

oh yeah and who can forget BATTLE ROYALE! greatest high school conflict ever!

Battle Royal - Quite possibly one of the best violent comedies ever made. Perfectly for getting drunk and watching at a student pad!

Also there is an awesome Korean film about a group of Korean schoolgirls who have just graduated School and are trying to stay together despite living in different parts of the country. Does anyone know the name of the film?

I'm gonna have to say My Sassy Girl. Now that is seriously a hilarous korean romantic comedy. Then Fearless, which is a Jet Li movie with plenty of well choreographed fights scenes.

There are a number of Asian films I like, but most of them are Filipino films. I'll note a few.

Mula Sa Puso (From The Heart) - This is one of those romance movies I like, with a complex plotline. The main reason I like this is because when the protagonist couple are fleeing the cathedral, behind them is an explosion worthy of Hollywood blockbusters. I'd like to see this in a lot more Japanese romance movies, but then it would be a cheap cliche.

Panday (Blacksmith) - This is a comedy film about a blacksmith who ends up becoming a famous hero. Joey De Leon, who is the host of the long-running Filipino game show Eat Bulaga!, plays as the lead character in this film, and it combines a fantasy past with now. It's an old film, one that I watched when I was a kid.

Milan - Here is a film about a young Filipino expatriate who seeks to travel the world and leave the Philippines. Eventually, he resides in Milan, Italy, and as he discovers, the Italians don't tolerate Filipinos that much. (At least in this movie.) It's also a wonderful romance, too.

Lastikman - This is one of the few Filipino action movies I like, about a physics professor who also doubles as Lastikman, a superhero that is similar to Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic 4 in a way. I won't spoil much on this movie, you've got to see this one.

Asian Cinema... well let's start with Thailand where I currently live:

Ong Bak: One of the first ever Muay Thai based movies that I've ever seen. Tony Jaa replaces Jackie Chan's footsteps in a way ^-^-^-^ It has astounding spectacular fighting scenes... and guess what one of the Stuntmen was actually my teacher in International School in Thailand.

Tom Yum Goong: Another Muay Thai based Action movie with Tony Jaa. Tony Jaa is more brutal thanever in this trying to get the stolen elephants back to his homeland.

The rest of my favorite Asian Martial Arts movies is based on Bruce Lee, jet Li and Jackie Chan,... more of it later... tonight...^-^

Kamen Rider Kabuto: God Speed Love: Haev to say, this is the best Kamen Rider movie after Black. Tendou Souji!

Battle Royale is AMAZING.
- The action is incredible. The character development is awesome, and the story concept is simply mind blowing. There's not much in the way of American cinema or other japanese cinema that mathes up to it. If you can get past the gruesome, it's an study in sociology. Especially the scene in the lighthouse. THAT made you think. And it almost made me tear up.

=D

My Sassy Girl
- Oh wow this film is AMAZING. It manages to combine humor and wit with romance and drama. Korean dramas rock at that. Jeon Ji Hyun and the male actor are PERFECT. The story is soo cute, the humor is side-splitting, and the romance is tear-jerking. Especially towards the end. I almost felt like standing and cheering. Except that would have resulted in enormous loss of man-points. =P

Actually yeah, alot of older Jackie Chan movies were classics. Jet Li too. Oh snap that opens up a whole new category. XD

*** Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Even though it was huge in America, I still consider it Chinese. For obvious reasons. Beautiful cinematography, gorgeous scenery, engaging story, well developed characters, humor, sex, action. Eh. I do believe this movie has it all. =P

*** Hero: First time I saw it I was really confused. But WOW. The fight scenes were incredible. I mean holy crap Jet Li is a beast. The story is also ridiculously amazing, once you understand it. Since it was sorta hard to understand...eh negative points. But it was gorgeous.

*** House of Flying Daggers: Another gorgeous movie. This one's a love triangle...too much romance, too many cg'ed fighting sequences. But eh, it's a good movie. Touching, sort of. =P

Try and check out stuff like "Police Story," "New Police Story," "Project A," "Drunken Master," "Drunken Master II" by Jackie Chan and the "Once Upon a Time in China" series by Jet Li. And Bruce Lee fo sho. ^.^

In the year 2029, the world has become interconnected by a vast electronic network that permeates every aspect of life. That same network also becomes a battlefield for Tokyo's Section Nine security force, which has been charged with apprehending the master hacker known only as the Puppet Master. Spearheading the investigation is Major Motoko Kusanagi, who -- like many in her department -- is a cyborg officer, far more powerful than her human appearance would suggest. And yet as the Puppet Master, who is even capable of hacking human minds, leaves a trail of victims robbed of their memories, Kusanagi ponders the very nature of her existence: is she purely an artificial construct, or is there more? What exactly is the definition of human in a society where a persons mind can be copied and the body replaced with a fully synthetic body? What, exactly, is the "ghost" -- her essence -- in her cybernetic "shell"? Where is the boundary between human and machine when the differences between the two become more philosophical than physical? When Section Nine gets involved in the case, she is forced to confront these and other questions as she confronts the "Puppet Master", a being that transcends humanity and ultimately challenges Kusanagi to transcend her own self-understanding and limitations as well.

You can't get better than this !

I like Windstruck - the lead girl is also the leading lady in My Sassy Girl. For me, this is much more comedic than My Sassy Girl, yet it suddenly blends into a sad note at the end. Isn't Memoirs of A Geisha an Asian Film? Well, at least it was filmed with a blend of Asian cast. Another movie I like is So Close. Man, those girls rock!

I like Ong-Bak. It is one heck of a crazy movie. Tony Ja is crazy but cool. When I watch this movie the first time, almost all of his actions hold my breath.
Another one is Tom Yum Goong. This one is even more crazy (but I still like Ong-Bak better). I was so tired when I watch it in the cinema. All of Tony Ja's actions in Tom Yum Goong is more scary than Ong-Bak and make me tired with those scenes

Kung Fu Hustle! It's Asian, right? *chuckles* OK, it's a great movie...It's so exaggerated, but the exaggerations happen in all the right moments: comedy scenes, fight scenes...The clichés tie in with the story in such a way that they satisfy you instead of making you feel disgusted...At least, in my case. ^_^
Bottom line: Good for a laugh, while being memorable and satisfying at the same time.

Osama - Truth be told, I'm not sure if it's actually Asian... (When we watched this in our social studies class, it had subtitles, you see.) It's about an Afghan girl who disguises herself as a boy and goes out to find work to help her family survive. The movie has a sad ending, though. But it's a very moving movie. You don't forget movies like that in a hurry.
(BTW, the name of the girl is "Osama"...Not in any way related to bin Laden. XD)

For a comady, I like Kung Fu Hustle(Chinese) and Sex is zero(Korean)
I like almost all of Stephen Chow's movies like shaolin soccer
Sex is zero is one of the korean movies that I don't watch many. I want to watch many of them, but I don't get a chance tho. First time I saw this movie, man, I laugh non stop. I think even forign people will understand all of the jokes in this one tho. The story is good too. They tell that you sex is not always about the relationship too.
